  1. And how much are they going to charge you for it?
  2. With suck little mileage in so many years I'm guessing he only does small traffic laden start stop runs. Which the can kill the fuel economy of even the best of them
  3. The AJV8 is a super reliable engine supercharged or NA also being used in the 2006 and above range rovers and also easier to work on than the 6 cyl Bits as usual are slightly more than your avg econobox bit there are jag scrappies in shj that can help. Other than that the usual buy the best amd most well maintained you can afford. Although the XR-F is the sporty version and real sweet!
  4. First of you decide where to pull from, which ever point is lower and even better if the heavier side is the lower side. And one does bot use snatxh straps/viking rope. But rather a stiff belt abs very gently drag not directly perpendicular to the stuck vehicle. And course the digging part. My cars have rolled twice in exactly the same scenario because of over enthusiastic tugging, because the person pulling lost patience with the he slow pulls. If the dune is not so high and steep and car not too dug in a 1-2ft 90 degree gentle drag is more than enough to set the car free and then let gravity do its work and the car come down on its own. Dome this recovery more times then I can remember and it always works. Trying to get horizontal and all in a tame side stuck as I can see in the thumbnail is overkill.
  5. And what do you do if the car is high and/or there is no place for a car to pull from behind or front? like stuck sideways half the way up on a steep and high dune.
  6. Ah the one in Deira is real close to my mates garage. Also drop at Car and Driver worskshop around the corner. They also always have a few interesting cars they are working on.
  7. If I was rich as fek then I would always go a new car. Regardless of how well kept it is, it's just never like a new car. Oh and sell it at 50k kms amd get another new one. But since that is never going to happen.!!! P.S : I LOVE depreciation makes me able to buy cars which were close to half a million DHS new now for literally peanuts. But it is an effort more than $$$$ to keep them going well.
  8. Hmm strange didn't notice, used to pass there daily up until very recently
  9. Well since you already paid for registration, insurance and plus have bought oil, filter etc etc. Just flush and refill the filter and drive it for another year. Even if it totally breaks down you can still sell it as scrap or 1000-1200 and get some money back instead of selling now for 2. Also no harm in checking how much a used transmission and replacement cost. . Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice shame on me!
  10. Most stupid car I ever owned was a 2001 GCC specs. Jeep Cherokee 150k kms on the clock, well maintained and taken care and loved to death by a British expat lady since new. I sold it the first chance I had after 3 -6 months of owning it,Can't even remember how long I owned it since I'm trying to erase that part of my life. And was probably the only car I was happy to see go.
  11. The whole deal with off roading is to have as much ground clearance as possible and specially when it comes to rock crawling to protect the underbelly and exposed parts specially engine and trans pans and diffs. And have less things sticking out of the bottom to get hung up on. Good well thought out 4x4s have both their diffs in the same line front and back and to one side so if one needs to go over an obstacle like a rock in tye road they can go over it from the side where they know the diffs are not hanging down. This thing totally defeats the purpose.
  12. Yup pretty much what I was expecting, just for bragging rights as the ground clearance is worse than a regular setup with more of an exposed softbelly with those droopy twin shafts just waiting to get smacked on a rock and breaking. But thanks for the pic!
  13. Well he's more talented than a lot of grease monkeys Ive seen!!!
  14. Meh , watched a little bit, seems like its for penny pinchers. Calculating cents and dimes over 5 yrs
  15. Your choice but then don't complain when someone says I told you so.
  16. Yeah probably that new vehicles mostly have variable steering power which make the steering super light when slow ans gets heavier as speed increases. And most newer cars have gotten rid of the old hydraulic type of steering assist all toghter. And now driven by a motor instead.
  17. Well I would wait until you install your RTT and then see the nose levels. If you get a spoiler now and get a RTT then you might have more noise and then need further work
  18. Rock crawling in the UAE like bringing a knife to a gun fight.
  19. Well to be honest if running two props to each wheel at the front,I don't seen any point or advantage over a single front end with a lockable diff. Impact nothing but disadvantages. Unless its just done for show and bragging rights.
  20. Huh!!! Explain to me how having two diffs on the front end would work? Two independent prop shafts coming from the x-case for each or something I don't see the point or any advantage of that or ...... Sure you mean diffs and not something like portal axels or something???.
  21. Ah Ok then get ready for more noise, drag, fuel consumption and a tipsy-er car with a higher COG
  22. I'm sure you meant to say front, center and rear diff.
  23. Or flush and refill the ATF which might actually get some crud out of the way ans improve the situation
  24. May I ask why you installed one in the first place?
  25. Not your fault, you are not familiar with the dealers here. There is no such thing as repair in their vocabulary. It's only replace. I wouldn't be too surprised if they say the whole trans has to he replaced at a price which probably exceeds the price the vehicle was bought at.
