How to read sand dunes formation and texture?
Gaurav replied to Frederic's topic in Off-Road Club's Discussions
Good you comeback to read and even made a checklist of it. 👍 Most dont read anything at all, as they think offroading is same as driving on szr.- 30 replies

Air Filter Tights/Stocking/Shower Cap Trick :)
Gaurav replied to Zed's topic in Offroad Tips and Tricks
My advise, don't use stocking cover please. These YT hacks and stunts are most dangerous stuff you will ever do. It starts with 1 fake claim of X additional HP with free flow filter and to achieve that "unknown" "unsaid" "non-tested" fictional gain owner tend to do 100 wrong moves. Totally agree with @sertac to switch to original stock dry paper filter, and clean after 4-5 drives easy (as u asked above), as factory filter box has enough space underneath to hold 100 - 200 grams of sand, even half a kg (I guess). Many have busted their engine (incl. me) for these fictitious gains, that will only come when you also put chip + 100 other mods + 200 star aligned in one line. -

Hi @Anna Dillon @Mohamed Elkhedir and @Tarig Ali Great to see you signed up for this Newbie drive on Friday 2nd July. We are looking forward to meeting you. We ask everyone that signs up here to answer a few quick questions so we can plan better for the drive: Do you have any previous off-road experience in sand? If so what did you already do? Does your car have 8 - 10 inch ground clearance along with front and rear tow hooks? Which car you plan to bring (Year, make and model)? Thanks in advance and looking forward to meeting you Friday.

Need Some Advice Re: Skid Plate
Gaurav replied to samamara's topic in Mitsubishi Pajero Forum in UAE
Like I said above, at newbie level, fiber plate are really enough. Once you are at fewbie, check your plate after couple of fewbie drives to identify the actual need as per your drive style. Front 6 mm looks very neat job, in case your Pajero heat up, increase the hole size or add few more holes in front. -
Need Some Advice Re: Skid Plate
Gaurav replied to samamara's topic in Mitsubishi Pajero Forum in UAE
Pajero already having a front skid plate and protector if I'm not wrong. That should be sufficient for newbie level drives for as long as you want to drive. From fewbie level upward when you engage in lot of ridge riding, then having a better and stronger front bash plate make sense. Now how stronger and better defines the pricing. Anything from 6mm thickness to 12 mm thickness with or without base frame etc. adds up to the cost and fabricators love to sell you the most strongest plate needed to run for Baja challenge for newbie drives. You as a owner also need to understand and consider the weight of the plate and frame will eventually add certain kg on the nose and that will restrict your climbing capability at higher level. Adding 25+ kg on nose is not really needed when you can drive little sensibly than smashing your car into every dune. I have been driving with factory plate (2 mm thin metal one) for 6+ years, yes of course it used to bend quite often and at every oil change mechanic use to hammer it. In 2018 I installed the winch that demanded new bash plate so I went for 6 mm without any frame. As a new driver, here are my recommendations for front bash plate: Newbie drive = Factory thin metal or plastic or fiber plate is sufficient. Fewbie drive = 6 MM plate is enough Intermediate = 6 -10 MM is good enough depending on your driving style. Extreme = 6-10 MM with or without frame depending on your driving style. In your case rear plate is most urgent in Pajero due to the design flaw of rear bumper that act as a scooper to pull the bumper down. There you only need any metal plate to close the scoop as its not getting much impact at the back. -
OK, Good, still I would test it few times. My close friend recovered me once and his boat towing point flew past just 1 feet away from my car and landed 50 meter ahead of my car. He gave the car for repaint and painter didn't installed the hook properly after dismantling and painting it, and I was counting my blessing to not to be in line of fire of that 5 kg heavy tow point.
-
These bolt on hooks are perfectly rated and capable for recovering "your" vehicle. We have used these many times on many cars. Bolt-on hooks strength become questionable when you wish to recover heavier vehicle which is beyond your car rating. 8.7 Inches is good enough for this drive and plus for newbie drives. Looking forward to test Subaru in dunes.
-
If this pintle hook is sitting on locally fabricated cross member, make sure to use dampers or support rope on every recovery. At least for first 10 hard tugs, to be 100% safe to find if this is fabricated and installed correctly.
-
Hi @Erik Ean above bolt-on hook is completely fine for joining off-road drives. Please make sure your vehicle has this or any other tow point in front and back too, as its mandatory for all cars. Secondly can you share which year your Subaru Outback is? And if it has minimum of 8 Inches of ground clearance? Even better if you can share the car front and rear bumper pics as well, please for me access it. I really look forward to take Subaru in sand as we have never seen one here in Dubai sand.

It's a very good price for such revolutionizing product. I always wanted to buy the telescope but the one on which I can attach my SLR and always drop the idea due to it's weight, size, pricing and mobility issue. This seem to answer all in one. Even if the first version is half as good and crisp as explained in video, I'll go for it.- 7 replies

I agree on this. And before wasting time with fake sellers, ask them to whatsapp you service record images - easiest and fastest way to filter scammers. You will be surprised that over 90% sellers wont send you service record or booklet with stamps image as they have used FSH as a clickbait in advert.
