  1. Nice choice Sri, we love Sweihan for grand dunes and most amazing offroad terrain in UAE.
  2. Car not starting has majorly three areas to doubt to complete the combustion cycle: Fuel, Spark and Oxygen. As you mentioned ignition switch is working fine, can you share some more details on when was car service last and when did you changed the spark plugs? For oxygen, try removing and cleaning your air filter by compressed air or gently tapping on the floor. Just to eliminate air filter doubt you can even start the car without the air filter and if it starts the car then that means you have isolated the problem. Change the air filter first and do not drive without air filter - it was just a test. Next you can find out MAF (mass airflow sensor) plug and remove that plug from air filter neck to try to start the car. Clean the MAF plug with soft brush - no spray needed and put it back how it was. For fuel, ask someone to come along with you and let them start the ignition switch half way and you stand next to engine bay with hood open to hear a long fuel pump prime (5-10 sec) and then tick of fuel relay. This means that fuel pump is sending fuel to the engine and fuel relay tick is completing the operation. If you don't hear any of these priming noise or tick means something wrong with fuel pump and that's why car not starting because there is no adequate fuel or fuel pressure. For spark, battery having green eye is not enough always if battery is just getting weak and lost its required cranking amp to start the car. Have you tried to jump start with another car battery, as that will eliminate the battery and power related doubt. Also Im not sure which pajero you drive, but if you have access to reach the spark plug HT leads, remove them gently, blow some air, clean with soft brush and put it back until you hear a proper click noise. May be some spark plug got some sand or got loose while driving and that's why car not starting all of sudden - rare, but possible.
  3. And also explain how do you plan to keep a straight line in desert by dodging dunes, rocks, slip face, pockets, fence, farms, trees etc. And secondly all grids you mentioned are of different geometrical shapes from rectangle, square, triangle, circle, trapezium, rhombus, etc. It's not a sea or air, to keep straight as the crow flies.
  4. It was a very different drive than the usual ones, in which we had a good mix of new faces and few come back after a long break. It was good to see @Asif Hussain with his friends after a very long time. Nice to have @Emmanuel after his month long vacation break. @AKR was the first to reach and I was totally surprised to see him after a very long break, as he managed to make 1:4 days trade off with his wife. Followed by new offroader with us @Adel Muradov totally impressed me with his adaptation and following all the newbie briefing points to superb level. And above all Adel handling of his beast Patrol was something very impressive irrespective of LWB, he manage to do very well overall. Also love the guest appearance from our superman @Rahimdad at the meeting point just to say hello to all of us as he is busy with his house shifting this week. We started a bit late after few delays and newbie briefing, and I kept the pace slow on flat and rolling dunes to test the convoy capability and slowly wake them up after a long break. Everyone responded very nice and thanks to @G.huz for a capable second lead to keep the convoy safe. As we start getting little warmed we start having few stuck and I remember @Srikumar comment of not keeping the drive boring without any stuck. Weather was very humid but every stuck gives us an opportunity to put the teamwork together and get the whole convoy back on its way asap. Everyone responded very well from simple to tricky recoveries and soon we were on our way to top of fossil rock. We lay our spread around 3:30 and wind stopped blowing with the most humid night we can imagine in this entire summer. Initially it was terrible to sit, but after few minutes wind changed her mind and blessed us with good intermittent breeze so that we can eat in peace, relax and share nice stories from France to Uzbekistan to Pakistan to India and UAE. As we had our fill, we packed and moved for the second leg to go down from behind and circle fossil rock to reach the Tawi Khatimah for saying hello to monster dunes at first break of sunlight. Here everyone become like a kid making an endless attempts after another and that's what bring the true offroading spirit of enjoying the challenging climb irrespective of the fact that you can just make 25% of the whole dune size. After our 3 tricky monster dunes, I decided to test the stairs knowing that convoy was very responsive and fully charged. To my surprise everyone safely reach almost to the top of Fossil rock from backside in two of the different stairs strategy I tried. The view from top was very serene and everyone who reached the top had a ear to ear smile of solid accomplishment and pride. After nice round of photos, videos and selfies, we decided to exit and all reached the ADNOC by 7:00 AM to beat the heat while going back. Looking forward to see you all soon, have a nice long weekend and enjoy your EID holidays.
  5. It could be heavily modified LC or Patrol for extreme offroad or military use. Difficult to make a guess with full cover on, my best bet was the tire carrier bracket shape typically used in Omani LC and brake light shape resemble Patrol VTC. Second, cruiser and patrol both have exhaust on right side. Third both came with similar pintle hook. Lastly, fuel cell protection points more toward Nissan Patrol as in LC fuel tank is little upward and less exposed.
  6. Looks like you are already few cans down for such fact sharing.
  7. I have repaired a big hole puncture with this kit in less than 10 mins in offroad and then continue using that tire for 2 years. This exactly how puncture shop repair the puncture. These little strings are literally magical to stop leak after you wet them.
  8. @Adel Muradov please come 30 minutes early by 10:30 PM so that we can do newbie briefing.
  9. Looks like he bought it from Dragon Mart without a receipt or even a business card. When he went back to complaint all the shops and faces look same. That's why he is not replying here
  10. Oh we have you always to perfectly fitting that criteria, lololol.
  11. You may start more early to avoid rush at border and also in case you waste time at border still be able to cover that second leg during daylight. Plan break at every 150-200 kms as all fuel station are positioned that way, with 300 km you might not be in sync. Dig some old salalah thread here and quote those people who have visited last year for latest update on fuel station, road, places etc.
  12. OK guys, update on the issue: Oil sensor wiring got disconnected so rewire and solder it again and engine oil light flickering is completely gone now.
  13. First of all have lot of fun, as its brilliant drive and I'm waiting since few years to repeat again without any luck. Road and car safety tips for long road trip to Salalah: Check all fluids level constantly for few days prior to your trip, both before driving and after. Get all bushes, belts and hoses check from proper mechanic with expected remaining life. Carry the good size tool box, gloves, duct tape, mseal, cable ties, tie-down straps for safety. Inflate all tires at 35 when fully warmed up, means start with 32 and check after an hour to top up. Stop every 150-200 kms at every fuel station for 15 mins to check and rest yourself and car. Refuel at every gas station spaced roughly 200 kms away to avoid no-show in next station. Avoid high speed for long hours, keep it at 120-140 is good for engine and fuel efficiency. Take 8-10 hours sleep in advance for 3 consecutive day prior if you are planning to drive in one shot. Don't eat full stomach meal, you will fall sleep, no matter how much you were rested before. If you feel sleepy, pull over far away in barren land (either side) and take a nap, than pushing. Start at night so that you can reach Salalah before it get dark, as driving in night is bit risky as incoming traffic blinds you very much on one-way road. Starting from Dubai at night till Muscat is good well lit road, so you will hit that one-way road during daytime.
  14. You are most welcome and after driving with us you will realize that nobody has to catch up in Carnity Offroad Club. We all go, wait, drive and eat together. I can relate your feeling of catching up, as I learned my offroading with LC100.
  15. Don't worry as acetone+atf still better than WD40 by two places. If you open the stuck plug, it will pay you back in multi-fold. Hope this does the magic and Pathy gets new plug soon. Just an idea: Maybe you can use torque wrench to limit the force than breaking the plug, so when torque wrench slips keep pouring the penetrating solution every 30 minutes. Only catch is to find the plug breaking torque.....! Shouldn't be very difficult though.
  16. Yes you heard it right, maybe you can join in morning down fossil rock backside and will have quick spin in that beautiful area. https://goo.gl/maps/3CmWxLkV1i6NjGT3A
  17. until
When: 08 Aug 2019, Thursday Meeting time: 11 PM, the convoy will move at sharp 11:15 PM - "NO EXCEPTIONS" Where: ADNOC at Sharjah - Kalba Road GPS Coordinate: https://goo.gl/maps/CjXEpdPqn3NZ7Y8j7 Level: Newbie, Fewbie & Above (NO ABSOLUTE NEWBIE PLEASE)
  18. As the weather begin to change for good, this might be the last night drive to enjoy this year, as now in night weather has become very pleasant with cool breeze. Time to enjoy chilled out desert drive in our much loved Mahafiz sandbox till the morning. If time permit and convoy response are favorable, we might continue play in morning at monster dunes after fossil rock area, if not we will end and exit. This area offers a great mix of playable dunes and medium dunes to test your night driving skills. Depending on convoy strength and liking will plan the route to fit everyone's taste and capabilities. Offroad lights are recommended for a night drive, but if you don't have you can still safely drive with your HIGH BEAM. When: 08 Aug 2019, Thursday Meeting time: 11 PM, the convoy will move at sharp 11:15 PM - "NO EXCEPTIONS" Where: ADNOC at Sharjah - Kalba Road GPS Coordinate: https://goo.gl/maps/CjXEpdPqn3NZ7Y8j7 Level: Newbie, Fewbie & Above (NO ABSOLUTE NEWBIE PLEASE) Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 10 inches of ground clearance. Plan: Drive, train and enjoy till about 4 am and then break for snacks. What to bring along: Snacks whatever you like with little extra to share, water, liquids, smiles, stories, enthusiasm and willingness to learn. Approximate finish time: 5:00 AM MUST READ: Off Road Driving - Roles & Responsibilities Off road Driving Etiquette's Off-road Convoy Rules Please RSVP on the below calendar:
  19. Actually people have ego attached to the recovery scenario that let their mind stop using the basic common sense, physics and math. Also they assume if you fail to recover in small 10 tugs then you and your 4x4 is useless, and let someone show you how to do it. Not many are bother to clear the sand around wheels and make a path or hole near the tire so that car can fall into the hole safely than jumping out and increasing the risk of flip.
  20. This single point is a GOLDEN MANTRA, even if you are stuck in a situation with underrated tow points, hook or ropes. I remember giving more than 30 tugs to change the angle of Ford truck with my dinky Pajero. Out here ppl give up after 3-4 tries and go as fast as they can, but its a same logic of blip blip recovery method, if you are moving even an inch at a time, you still have a hope to recover with the same intensity by giving constant slow powered tugs.
  21. Well not from Zero, but from 50% onward again. And you will take couple of drives to get used to that new 4x4 response unlike months and years to learn offorading. I have driven 6 different 4x4 for offroading in last 12 years.
