  1. That's exactly same I have been thinking and recently found a tire piece that I need to trim in the right size to test.
  2. Maybe yes to eagle eyes, but this is mentioned on the comment on the same video. I watched this video last month and now planning to DIY this same stuff for a testing purpose.
  3. The MOST useless car fact is the HORSEPOWER display of every car. Every car manufacturer loves to display and shout out loud the engine horsepower that it is capable to produce and not real WHP, Wheel horsepower that you get after fitting whole car body, seats, chassis etc under full load. Engine Horsepower = 410 hp Wheel Horsepower = 190 hp
  4. Newer technology is always better being more efficient, performing and sometimes more reliable than older ones. Maybe you can share some more details instead of assuming that everyone is thinking what you are thinking, quite natural while hunting your next car, lol I think it's wrangler JK VS JL you are asking.....? Correct me if I'm wrong and also put pricing vs benefits so that people can advise further
  5. Caption this @skumar83 @sertac @desertdude @Shafiq
  6. Very good point added @Barry thanks for your additional valuable inputs. I see almost in every parking, tires are suffocated to the curb or kerb and then people complain that these tires were useless as they bulge out in less than a year when they don't know how to park. Even if you use the judgment of curb while parking (it's ok), move away few cms once you reach the end, then switching off car instantly. The second most killing thing I spot is more than 75% driver jump in the car and move away within 1-2 seconds while rolling they pull the seatbelt and wear their glasses. I am like do these basic steps first and let that poor car run for 30 seconds before you put the gear in drive.
  7. Thanks @Rahimdad for creating this wonderful thread and always adding new incidents to discuss and let newbie learn the offroad accident reasons. Hope now newbies realize that we always insist on doing small U-TURN on your first sideys so you can learn how your vehicle reacts on the slope and you can learn to countersteer immediately if car fishtail and about to flip.
  8. Here is the list of very simple tips that every car owner should know to take care of his/her car in the UAE: Don't start and go: As soon as you start the car, wait for rpm to drop to idle rpm (600-800 rpm) from 15-30 seconds in a newer car and 30-60 seconds in an older car before driving it off. This will help the car to circulate all fluids to necessary place in engine, gearbox, steering and brake boosters. Driving it immediately will starve some critical component for few seconds and may cause damage in the long run. Don't block the driver: While parking cars in the tight spot, leave more space on the driver side than on the passenger side. In parallel parking, move vehicle little front or back to avoid hitting side view mirror while opening. This will save a lot of scratches and bumps on both the cars. Don't drive on underinflated tires: Learn to check your tires with visual look every day and inflate them to owners manual tire pressure asap. When tire pressure is down, then the bottom tread of the tire is very less visible and worth a stop and checking. Most tires when underinflated screech while turning on cemented flooring like in building parking, fuel station etc.. So if you are not used to hearing screeching while turning then that can be the very first signal of low tire pressure. If in doubt, simply inflate to 30-32 psi in general for most of the cars in UAE. Don't hit the curb: While parking once your car hit the curb, move little away from the curb because leaving the car with tire hitting the curb will damage tire over time and may result in unusual bulge, cuts or leak resulting in wobbling ride. Don't ignore the leaks: Learn to check for leaks visually. Every day when you walk towards your car just have a look under the car engine and sides to have any wet marking or oil drops or pool of oil. Minor few drops or stains are acceptable to some extent if they are occasional, but regular drops or pool of oil or any other fluid require an immediate check. Clearwater dripping when the car is on - AC condensation - nothing to worry Clearwater droplet coming out from exhaust - it's a good sign of healthy engine Front side underneath - golden or brown oil = Engine Oil leaking - Immediate check needed Front side underneath - green or red water-based fluid = Engine Coolant leaking - Immediate check needed Under front driver or passenger side - red or brown oil = Gear Oil leaking - Immediate check needed Don't drive with weak brakes: When you hear screeching noise while braking then it is an indication that gets your brake pads and/or brake disc replaced. It's a first telltale sign of worn out braking system and you should not be ignoring it for a long time. Don't ignore the warning lights: You should never ignore any fault code light appearing on the dashboard be it for check engine light, SRS, ABS or battery icon. Warning lights in red color are critical ones and yellow are least critical but still, they all are warning light and trying to tell you to check or fix something in the car.
  9. As much as we love to take passengers on other offroad drives, but in Liwa it's different. Cars are usually packed with a lot of stuff for 2 days camping, extra fuel, survival, and recovery gears as Liwa is a very serious terrain. After accepting Bilal and Jalil as a passenger there are no more seats to spare, as overloaded cars can't perform in Liwa.
  10. Thanks @hAwX for coming back with an update. Sad to hear you lost your car in an accident, hope nothing serious happens to you. Well, lifter usually becomes quite after engine oil gets hot and start circulating everywhere, but in this case its other way around.
  11. Sorry to hear about your experience and after spending 400 dhs, noise is still there. I was thinking about your problem, this morning while getting my Pajero oil change at Mobil and thought your problem must have solved and that's why we didn't hear from you back - as that's what 90% people do - hit and run @hAwX how did your lifter noise got sorted, please share your experience. Reading again, this raises a bit of suspicion that previous owner might know this is coming soon. Anyways, Habtoor being a dealer should have answers to all Mitsubishi queries but unfortunately, my experience with them was very robotic and they specialize in scheduled service like machines doing their job. Little left or right leave their boyz scratching their head. It took me 3 visit and 4 specialized technicians at Habtoor with some internal wasta to get refer to sound technician and still in end left with an advise "Sir your car is old, please buy new Pajero". Problem: Minor knocking, pinking and missing resulting in doof doof noise like a tractor. Later on @Barry diagnosed of a bent exhaust valve changed it and fixed the car in 2-3 days times. Now he is no longer working as a mechanic, but still, help people in diagnosing out of goodwill.
  12. As we all know that RTA renewal for cars is for 12 months and insurance we get is for 13 months policy to cover the 1 extra month which RTA gives for a grace period. During this grace period, we can fix the failed car or compare the best insurance available in UAE. I have been driving all my cars during that grace period without any worry, but recently heard some rumor that RTA is issuing a fine if they catch you driving with expired mulkia even in a grace period of the 13th month. RTA fines are ranging from 500 - 1000 Dhs. Is it true? Has anyone got any fine by cops or scanner for driving a car (not parked) during the grace period....?
  13. I have some plan from last year but though they are not urgent and that's why they never made it yet: Add hood louver Add Electric fan (maybe) - a lot of research involved Change/upgrade radiator as it's 5+ year old Get back Iridium plugs as I'm running on standard (Habtoor) plug after engine swap Add aluminum bash plate Color winch plate (protection)
  14. 1997-1999 Mitsubishi Pajero 3.5 DOHC SWB - only car I have owned for 8+ year now because it gave me so much more than any other big-bang-ding-dang-decorated-famed-hyper-marketed 4x4 were unable to offer in a "STOCK STATE". Image credit: @hossein
  15. As @Frederic Nuyttens pointed in the right direction, either you can filter and choose the general service workshop listed here https://carnity.com/business_listing/car-services/general-service-workshop Or you can submit your query here to get multiple quotes from a competent garage near your location here: https://carnity.com/car-marketplace?do=form&d=18

  17. This year much-awaited Liwa drive is finally here in the most amazing and humongous dunes of Liwa in Moreeb area. This area test all your offroading skills in one go from being seasoned offroader to a very calculative and reasonable driver who takes every turn with caution and yet enjoy the thrill this area has to offer. It is the most ultimate area for sand offroading in the UAE, where a lot of motorsport event happen from time to time to test the vehicles, their extreme modifications, and drivers professionalism. Please make sure your 4x4 is in the top-notch condition and recently serviced to withstand the pushing on Liwa dunes. Kindly carry all the recovery gears you have with extra fuel and water supply as much you can bring. We hope to finish at Arada before it gets dark and pitch our camp to sleep overnight before we head back in the morning of 26 Jan. If anyone wants to camp before the drive, please discuss below and see us at the meeting point by 6:30 AM. We plan to do this area in two halves: First in the morning from Giffen town to Moreeb until the Friday prayers. The second half from Moreeb to Arada. When: 25 Jan 2019, Friday Meeting time: 6:30 AM, and the convoy will move sharply at 7:00 AM Where: Last ADNOC fuel station on Tarif - Liwa Road GPS Coordinate: https://goo.gl/maps/uwPq2GbAGo62 Level of the drive: Intermediate and above Type of Car: Proper 4x4 with low gear, front and back tow hooks and 8-10 inches of ground clearance Plan: Difficult drive from Giffen town to Moreeb Hill and then towards Arada after Friday prayer and lunch break. 18. Change / clean air filter, you meant. Here's my list: Fill up washer fluid How to check the fuse and replace them Check gear oil in the vehicle having the dipstick Top up battery water, if it's not the maintenance-free battery Clean battery terminal for corrosion or tighten the loose terminal
  19. Couldn't agree more. Poor Range Rover has to deal with all this.
  20. Nice thread @hossein and to be honest we have thought on this issue so many times to help newbies get the best deals at best pricing, but this idea failed to take off for exact reason @skumar83 has mentioned. You like green, I like blue. You like AOR, I like bushranger and we can't have stock of all these items as each item has its own warranty period and no one will buy with lesser warranty if we stock items for a couple of months. @Frederic Nuyttens has posted tons of valuable information here, for which I am totally impressed as it shows that he has been well researching about his new hobby. Good job buddy. Here are my takes on each item: Tow rope: Buy the Viking or Kinetic rope because it's best for regular soft tugs that are good for both cars. @Rahimdad Viking is the best example and I think it cost 300 dhs. AOR kinetic cost about 370 after 20% discount of the current promotion, available in few ENOC stores even. Second, best is the rated straps, that is very good for stronger tugs. While buying straps buy with the rating of double your car weight and it will never break. And don't buy the slings and webbing as it's for lifting strength and not pulling/towing strength. I bought my red color heavy duty strap, that is rated for 9500 lbs (4250 kgs) and pulled my cruiser uphill with constant 20-30 strong tugs and it survived against 4 tow ropes we broke that day. So ideally every offroader should have Viking first and then heavy duty strap for those rainy days. Compressor: Endless battle, as a market is flooded with cheap to the best, remember you get what you pay for. 150-200 dhs dragon market, naif, sharjah Camel brand, and other Chinese compressor are there. Seems like they are good for the 1-2 year of regular use. Other professional high-end brands like TJM, Bushranger, Smitybilt, TJM etc. range from 500 - 1500 and last for 5-10 years with regular use and also give you peace of mind with their trusted reliability. I am using bushranger black max for a long time without an issue. I bought bushranger when ACE used to give 5 years warranty and changed my yellow hose once in warranty. Now they reduce that to 1-2 year warranty making bushranger purchase totally meaningless. In DM I have seen the compressor that has an auto cut-off switch but it comes with no warranty. This auto cut-off switch feature is something I have been waiting for a long time, so the compressor will stop at 35 PSI automatically. I would love to try this compressor, but I'm waiting for my bushranger to fail to justify my next purchase, lol. Shovel: That is the one thing that can save any offroader any day and that's why carrying the best shovel is very important. Like @Frederic Nuyttens pointed perfectly to go with an industrial class full-size non-folding shovel of metal and wood. You can buy 10-20 dhs from any hardware shop or buy decorated branded one of lightweight aluminum for 100 - 200 dhs. They both work equally good. Stay away from plastic snow shovel, folded two or three pieces shovel that is good for nothing in the sand as you can displace more sand with the hand instead of those spoon size shovel. Radio / Walkie-talkies: Only in DM or on souq you can buy these. Motorola MT777, Crony, Baofeng, Kangda are some well-trusted brand, varies from 150-250 dhs. My personal favorite is Motorola MT777 due to best in class durability and reliability.
  21. My first mod was putting an Iridium spark plug in Nissan Sunny, yes in my first car in 2002. Started with a power mod and become Schumacher on every red light with faded roof sunny, till date my wife joke about the faded roof. Nice thread Barry, let's see what other car enthusiast's started with
