  1. Here is the most awesome drive video, especially for the people who missed it
  2. One of the best and most amazing trip we have done so far with carnity, too bad for the people who missed it as only 4 car made it for this wonderful drive, after 3 pulling out last minute. I am sure Jason got full attention to bond with his cherokee as closer to the end, his drive style has changed (for good) completely. After all Lisali to Qudra is not an easy track, but he managed to complete 2+ hour dunes with only single stuck at the beginning. Enjoy the pics, video will follow shortly.
  3. Recce drive was nice today and it was a good idea (thanks Rahim bhai for suggesting) to sketch newbie route amidst the lisalli white soft sand small dunes. These small dunes are very technical dunes and we have found a way to avoid them. However everyone driving tomorrow advised to be very slow while going down the dunes, as we have spotted quite a few pockets that can hit the car front if you are too fast. Be rest assure that we will end the drive at very beautiful qudra lake and also find a nice bbq spot in closer vicinity.
  4. Thanks for the suggestion, but from the shop I got the speakers installed we agreed for these higher RMS speaker and amp together. However amp wasn't able to fit under driver seat so we left all the wiring and cables for amp but didn't installed it actually. As a second option he showed me the output of similar active subwoofer and I wasn't convince at all, as similar or an inch less bass is already coming from my rear 100 RMS speaker. With current situation I have to pump the volume to above 20 to enjoy little bass, and close to 30 for good bass but it looses quality (not distorting off course). Now when I already have 60 and 100 RMS speaker but head unit supporting 52W x4, then I think my next best bet is to opt for this high class D amp and see if the clarity at top volume satisfy my ears and then decide for sub or not.
  5. No vehicle was not lifted and it was purely situational accident. If any newbie would have done similar error of being too close or steer upward right when car sliding down left, then maximum he would have got stuck as fighting with gravity. Here coz of rain sand was tight and that didn't allowed vehicle to sink in and get stuck - resulting in flip. Secondly he is being too close, could be the cause of poor visibility. May be... Change of position in convoy from 3rd to 2nd was his only fully liable mistake as second lead sometimes get tricky and that's why we have placed a feewbie driver there. Everyone should respect their convoy numbers unless you have 20-30 drive experience under your belt.
  6. While I was reasonably happy with my Pajero barebone speakers after installing the single DIN Sony unit few years back, now I decided to upgrade the whole car audio system - preferably to Pioneer. Though this is my offroad ride, so I want to upgrade this music system to mid-level audio and not the competition level please. I changed all the speakers to below Pioneer model: Front door: Pioneer TS-A1686S - 350W - 60W RMS Back Seat: Pioneer TS-A6996S - 650W - 100W RMS Now I am seeking advise for adding decent level amplifier and smallest but working woofer due to space constraint. I shortlisted below models, can someone more knowledgeable in car audio watts and numbers advise if this amp and woofer will be compatible enough to the speakers that I bought last week? Amp: Pioneer GM-D9605 - Class D 5-Channel Amplifier with Wired Bass Boost Sub: Pioneer TS-SWX2502 - 10" Shallow-Mount Pre-Loaded Enclosure
  7. Causes of this flip: Overnight rain before the drive Heavy sandstorm Poor visibility Too close to the car in front Wrong judgement to steer upward when car is already sliding down Although video is from a distance and it's not clear, but you can get a quick feel for all the above causes.
  8. We missed you too @slick72 Apparently air-bag didn't deployed may be coz the vehicle angle was less than 90 degrees tilt (may 89.9 degree lol) due to sand or it may not be working at all. The switch for traction is very good idea if your vehicle is too irritating to not to let you spin the wheels (must for sand). In most of the Japanese and American it's not very strict as compare to UK and German cars. No idea about on switching off ABS. Switching airbags off seems to have a big trade-off to not to let them operate even when vehicle has a roll, I wouldn't choose to switch airbag off unless I am hitting super extreme drive where while cris-crossing angle may increase by 90 degree tilt (45 left + 45 right) in less than fraction of a second. Back to OP: For sharing the flip / roll info, I and rahimdad also never understood the real reason with so many offroad club we drove, but we never question to not to disrespect any club policy. While we had this small flip, we both agree to share for the sake of analyzing the situation and educating every off-roader whether they drive with us or with any other club. Understanding the risk involve is the only way to make people aware of adopting to use the best practice and drive safe and follow the convoy discipline and never underestimate the mother nature.
  9. Totally agree with treks, Mitsubishi paint quality really sucks may be as they sell their cars too cheap from the rival. I got my Pajero resprayed with 3 layer Octoral paint Standox clearcoat few months back and sealed it with 3M protection.
  10. Isn't this supposed to be private info........? lolololol.
  11. Totally agree and that is because of all litterbugs go there only. Same thing ended up with hatta pools and so many other beautiful scenic spots in UAE. Driving off-road seriously come as a blessing in such scenario, so we can venture out and about to scout a clean spot. BTW, below estimated track from lisali to qudra may excite everyone more here.
  12. This is more than perfect for newbie to fewbie level, if you listen and follow the advice and drive discipline.
  13. Very nicely explained by @Rahimdad but only thing I like to add is 4x4 that comes with body kit and/or lower bumper lip will loose most of the beautification add-on after every desert drive. So hope your prado isn't having any of these modifications...? Appreciate if you can post the pictures of your prado from all 4 sides and we can advise you appropriately. Last two week back we did newbie drive with grand Cherokee with lower lip, and thankfully nothing happened but it has been advised to the driver in advance to remove the lower lip before venturing in the desert.
  14. Thanks @adil for great suggestion, I was in Sharjah scrap during this weekend with @Rahimdad and after lot of tries we found same HDM relay 15016745 from EATON for 20 dhs and it fixed the low beam instantly.
  15. @amid you don't need/have to be so negative and think of all LR owners are alike. After enjoying Range Rover for little over 2 years, I can say that Land Rover cars are very easy to maintain and best if you can DIY unlike many japanese cars who put the spark plug half km inside the mainfold (Pajero). However here it's a different situation created by garage and workshop that they will always charge a fortune to touch a Range Rover as they think like you that all LR owners are rich brat. I have paid for simple 8 spark plug change a 300 AED for labor only, while asking why it's expensive and garage owner returned with dirty grin: "Sir it's a Range Rover" Range Rover spark plug change - 1 hr - 300 AED Pajero spark plug change - 2-3 hrs - 200 AED Land Cruiser plug change - 1-2 hrs - 100 AED So it's a perception that dictates how much money you will be spending on maintenance and not the actual labor intensiveness. Talk about ardhi app, I have seen it briefly with @Rahimdad and others and it still has some minor glitches to be ironed and you never know it might pick up only due to the reason of sending flares to near by people when stuck, so that they can come and rescue you in offroad - very well thought feature.
  16. You haven't seen them now, as it was post 2000 vehicles and moreover I guess all camel trophy discovery's was diesel engine, kind of misfit here for sand...! It's an awesome initiative from LR to launch classic as a homeage to real classic RR's. I so wish if Mitsubishi can do 100% ground up for my Pajero too, i'll pay them anything and buy 2.
  17. Thanks Jason, looking forward to see you and your family. My wife and son 2 and a half might be joining too.
  18. There is only two things I like to add here after such a nice trip report and pictures by everyone: It was not only the driver's fault for the flip but also the extreme weather condition to be blamed for such an unfortunate scene. Sand storm made it difficult to read the dunes and rain made the sand harder from top to prevent the stuck, which resulted in a flip. By seeing the gopro footage (which is not very clear from a distance) I can see that driver wanted to follow the lead over a broad ridge and due to being too close he estimated that leader will take left or his car slided left, whereas leader has gone right. So to correct that immediate left to right on relatively soild sand (due to rain) car flipped on driver side. Secondly, unlike many other offroad clubs here in UAE we like to share and discuss these unfortunate situations to educate everyone to avoid same mistakes in future. Everyone should feel free to share and discuss these incidents in a healthy way to bring some valuable knowledge from which everyone can learn and enjoy this extreme sport carefully (no name and shame please).
  19. Good to see names filling in fast. Hope to see signup from @wingnut @jason200 @Radhika @presism @evoboy2016
  20. There are some very important points I like to share with absolute newbie based on my extensive off-road experience: Deflation is king:- Always deflate between 12-14 PSI and double check the deflation after 30 mins of driving. Under-deflation is the first and biggest cause of all stucks and refusals. Straight up, straight down:- As a newbie for first few drives, no sideways and no side sloping for your own safety until you get hang of your vehicle reaction in sand and that too on side sloping. For first few drives, go straight up the down and then come straight down, not sideways. Learn from other people mistakes:- If you see car in front of you struggled on some patch, choose little right or left path to not to repeat the same mistake. Desert is open so be creative and safe. Don't defy the gravity:- If you can't climb uphil, simply go back and try again with little more speed just enough to climb. Don't defy the gravity once stuck, as that will dig you more deeper. Keep yourself calm and don't panic:- No matter even after 100 stucks, keep yourself calm as when you panic you will loose the fun of driving off-road and get stuck more by getting scared unnecessarily.
  21. because no one search cars in uae, they just go and buy the car....lololololololol.
  22. Good to see you all joining back, i'm sure ill be good fun tomorrow.
  23. Thanks for your appreciating words, hope to see you again Carlos.
