  1. Let's compile a list of toxic or unsafe plants (fruit or shrubs) found in the UAE Desert while offroading. Desert lemon-looking plants are called Desert Squash (Citrullus colocynthis) (Handhal). https://www.webmd.com/vitamins/ai/ingredientmono-798/colocynth
  2. So, Frederic got this knack for dreaming up cool adventures and he's earned titles like "Master Planner" and "Creative Genius" for it. Every season, he surprises us with new ideas, and we're lucky and grateful for adventurous souls like him who lead us with such cool combo concepts. I totally missed out on the 7 Emirates drive, but luckily, I managed to jump into the Scenic Sand and Wadi Adventure last minute. Big shoutout to @Srikumar for letting me tag along in the car and enjoy those rare moments. The turnout for the adventure was impressive, providing an excellent opportunity to reconnect with familiar faces at the expansive sabkha. That little mountain hike offered breathtaking views, reminding us of the joys of exploring on foot. Surely, Fredy, the master planner, selected the three convoy meeting points with similar intentions. Navigating through the winding mountain paths amidst natural elements was truly mesmerizing. The whole convoy waiting for the sheep crossing was the cutest part, the second one was the farm full of black sheep, lol. Despite unexpected delays prompting Fredy to shorten the drive, I found myself hoping the drive would last longer - an indication of the sheer joy experienced, a rarity in off-roading. Thank you @Frederic for your unwavering commitment, brilliance and efforts for multiple recces, and huge patience for handling multiple convoys for such a long drive.
  3. Flip open the cover and replace the bulb with LED. It makes a big difference
  4. I know what you are thinking: best power-to-weight ratio (real big secret for winning off-road toy). I noticed that too 254 hp (most in all 5 cars) and kerb weight of 1869 kgs, make it 135 hp/ton.

  7. Depending on the extent of damage to the existing engine your cousin can estimate the price of rebuilding (best solution, if this car is low mileage). It can vary from 3k - 15k depending on how severe the damage is. Go with any builder (your cousin or outside) who gives a warranty of rebuilding in writing on the invoice go with them. You should at least get 15-20k km or 6 months of warranty or else you are talking to a shoddy workshop who might laugh at you. Feel free to walk away, you will be happy in the long run. You can swap with a used engine too, provided you get one from half-cut with an odometer so you know it's really low mileage and not clocked 300k (end of life).
  8. Simon, your observation is spot on, and it's gratifying to witness this realization so swiftly. The immense satisfaction and joy you experience will propel your growth in off-roading endlessly.
  9. Totally agree, but the image showing mods seems weathered, so must be used for at least 2-3 seasons, if not more.
  10. Get the chassis measured Check for rollover signs Get few quotes from diff insurance companies with car VIN to make sure car is not written off in past. With such high quality mods, person would only sell if its wrecked or moving on to bigger animal. Thorough unbiased Inspection can answer those very well in few minutes, including excessive engine mods that could jeopardize engine longevity. Which nationality is the previous owner, as lot depends on that when it comes to used cars previous maintenance and upkeep vs abuse till last breath.
  11. All I can say, is it's my heartthrob. This will be the first choice when I have enough money to buy a second off-road toy. I almost bought one in 2009 with ready cash in my pocket (used one) and the guy flipped on the way to the registration center. It took me 6 months to scout a clean one. So buying a new one is better, as most used ones are not in good shape. In those days, the dated interior was a bit turn-off, but now Toyota has caught up on that front very well. But, still don't expect to compare to FJC and Prado's interior and comfort. Second, is leaf spring rear design is a bit squeaky and bouncy in off-road, no cure, you will just get used to it over time. The best is 1GR-FE engine is bulletproof on reliability and longevity, and 230 hp can be scaled to 300+ with factory turbo, supplied and installed by Toyota. Look for Dynatrade (parallel import from Oman) pricing, as in those days Al Futtaim was 150 and Dynatrade offered me 130. Good luck with all the research.
