  1. you should have asked the last owner if he had it changed on regular basis gear being stuck or taking above 2k rpms for shift is usually the oil level low or the particular valve body solenoid getting stuck because of clutch /bearing/dirt particles getting in the way or even electricity problem in the wiring or the solenoide itself but that usually sets out a code in the latter cases get the oil level checked if less use approved atf oil and if you have a d light blinking or check engine light on then also get it scanned... proper inspection will shed some light on whats wrong... @Barry what do you say...?
  2. my clearance statement is in regards of the engine as a whole is old technology hance having more clearance and the newer models like 2015 or 2018 engines having very minute clearance in between the rubbing parts (not the damaged clearance which in turn requires repairs)
  3. there are engine with different specs of oil i agree but what about you starting in the morning and its running dry for a sec or 2 everyday...it does affect its clarence levels that after a good amount of time they are making sounds so hence to prolong that last bit of usable life you can toss in mineral oil in it and before the trump of these synthetic oils there were 8 cyls and 10 cyls and 12 cyls and 16 and 32 cylinders what were those running on and on top of that there were competitions too it was the mineral oils which were running in them....
  4. so you changed it the first time when it was 184000 ..? was pretty late change you should not have bothered to change it after it crossed 120k
  5. in older engines there is more clarence in between the parts so better use the thicker oil which when heated will change less in viscosity
  6. how much was it driven prior to being changed and how much you have driven since the change...like in how many kms you do the atf change...?
  7. hope that water was clean as here after 30 days it'll be golden and rusty which is really not a good idea to gulp down...
  8. when was the last time you had the atf changed and its filter...?
  9. the mechanical ones are really precise and up to the dot it will also record the minor fluctuations too and it requires a calibration ones in awhile..the electronic one will flatten the minor fluctuations and the sensor will have a minimum and maximum point below that and above that it wont show...
  10. maybe the fans are turning but not at the required speed...and in rare cases the engine itself might be weak that's why when you put load of compressor or push it abit hard and it starts to heat up along with what @sertac and @Barry mentioned
  11. any kind to get together without permission will get you tossed in if its making a disturbance
  12. toyota corolla tercel 1999 i really have no idea from where to start a review but here we go i got this car ar 250k kms for 2.5k aed and ran it for another 450 or 500k it had a smoking engine which i replaced and she was back up and spurring like a kitten with carb powered 2efe 1.3 cc engine that not gonna roar but will get you wherever you want thanks to its 5 spd manual gear it had more then enough to run around everywhere i need to be and was my trusty partner for use in the workshop for hauling parts it had the best fuel economy as its a 1.3cc which used to give a run of around 600 plus per tank the car itself in look wise is really basic not a cheap box but if you can toss some $$$ then this car can make heads turn and the interior is also very basic with a stereo system and the seats are not that comfy for very long drives the windows were manual and there was only 1 airbag for the driver others would just hope for the best i guess there was no abs not much electrically loaded as you can guess but still its a really wonderful car to have as the maintenance cost is very low and the fuel economy is great and the air conditioning is built of very tough components the summer afternoons could not make it bow down the parts are readilly avalable in orignal and even aftermarket is nicely catering to this kitten the small parts like door handle interior handle or the window handle to bonnets doors even the used market has everything this car requires to run like the fornt headlight pair is 200 aed which would be the cost of only 1 headlight in many newer cars this car has reached such a stage that you can buy it of the market for 2k to 4k depending on the condition and for using it for 2 to 3 years it still part with almost the same amount from you only if you take good care of it...these cars are very hard to comeby if in really good condition as the owners are still in love with tercel and are reluctant to part with a gem that toyota produced the last were produced in 1999 as then toyota echo took over P.S : the 2 pictures is of my tercel and the rest is sourced from the internet
  13. oh yes the flip light american accord and before those the the marks and gts then later on those pesky maximas Those were the days when I had a dream of growing up and having a pack of Marlboro red a mark 2 and run wild around town well those days are seeming tough to comeby...
  14. I had employed a helper who's only work was to clean the shop and gather the tools after work and obviously he couldn't do either he always use to loose tools I even told him that I will buy it from his salary but still no use..he still would find something bigger in size to loose
  15. That might be the case from where you reside but here my friend you are at the mercy of workers...if they use the screwdriver as levers then you are bound to provide them with a screwdriver and a lever or else they gonna find something else to break....
  16. in 2002, 2004 here was also a craze going on with the 320's was a fast strong car but after that poof almost all went to junk yard my friends elder brother used to have the convertible one and we used to do burn outs and donuts on it
  17. i had that rachet it was more then 25 years old my dad gave it to me we also used to put pipe on it and open tough bolts dad used to come by every other week to open it up and grease the balls and springs in it until it also passed on to some other dimension P.S dad was really pissed for that one... later on i got 2 ratchets one for my car and one for the shop and i also got the proper rod handle for using it with pipes
  18. many many that i have really lost count of it...lately i just buy 10 to 15 bulb holders and keep them in a box and have wiring looms handy whenever i need to extend those wires organised is a loving word i really love it but cant seem to get in to it...i have 4 boxes and some tools which i treasure i keep them separate in the metal cupboard i have lost my 10mm 12mm and 14mms quite a few times lately i just ask for the tools from my associate and later on after finishing the work he just asks them back and places them in their place i sure know its a dent in the pocket to buy the same tools again as i am the one who ends up buying it... specially those bits and small sockets with falls in the engine bay then is magically transported to some other dimension i have stopped almost all the shops except from one who borrows from me and i also get tools from them others have a habit of losing them i don't know why i remember you coming to my shop once at that time i was alone so just used to throw everything in and close the shutter and make a run for home so the shop was almost up to the brim full of old stuffs and i used to work out of the shop now that the associate has come in the shop he wanted some changes in the shop and he cleared almost everything here now i can park a car in the shop and work on it after a long time again... no i don't have walk in customers as my shop is located away from the main road the customers in this part of the town are 99.99% only those who are sent by someone who specifically gives them my shop address...
  19. saw that thing when was buying the normal tester they were asking for 140 and i was like anyway its gonna get lost so no thank you now that you have mentioned it.. you are right i always have to shout to someone at the battery who will be changing the polarity so i can peacefully do my work of checking the circuit right... having been playing around with such testers i have almost got the idea behind it if the light is beaming bright then its having good volts there and in case of checking for leaks i first test the circuit with the brake bulb then again test it with the small park lights then in the end to make sure its fully cured i test it with the dashboard light that way i make really sure that there is no further current leaks running in the cars...i know its a long process but still i get it the problem with a iron feist so it wont pop up again unless some other appliance starts to act drunk....
  20. i have bought a few of them in the years but they seem to have a habit of magically disappear from sight when you need them and appear when you don't need it i have stopped purchasing them now now whenever i need one i just strip a bulb holder to just measure the if adequate power is there or not or the lines are good or not its very handy and does the work just fine if more precision is required then my handy dandy multimeter is always there to the rescue so what you guys are using if you can share maybe we all could learn a new shortcut...?
  21. the best thing you can do is remove the tank and clean it inside out then change the pump strainer and toss them back in and through check the pipe with pressurised air till the rail joint then remove the injector and manually clean then then toss them in sonic vibration tanks then fix them on a glass rail and check their spray pattern and quantity on idle ,mid speed and high speed to be sure that nothing funky is with them
  22. that screw you are you are seeing is mainly used to adjust the idle speed when your engine ages and looses a bit of compression that same type of setting screw is also in toyota camry 1999 mounted on the driver side strut tower in the engine bay and some more cars of that era also seem to have them in machanical or electrical types....
