  1. Nice solution but there’s an easier way without cutting into the vehicles wiring loom. Pull the fuse, insert 2 male spade connectors into the fuse holder and connect them to a toggle switch via an external fuse holder with the same sized fuse. Same result but easier to remove and return the car to standard with no damage to the wiring loom. Works on any car.
  2. It was my grandads car. He got bad with Alzheimer’s. it got progressively worse. Like proper bad. He was pooping in his pants, he didn’t recognise any of his children or any of us grandchildren. My grandmother never had a driving licence but she used to drive to the shop and back. One day she was driving to the shop, the police stopped her and asked her where she was going. She said she was going to the shop to buy potatoes and the cop told her to go ahead. That scared her so much she said she would never drive again so she put my grandfathers car up for auction. Me and my father went half’s on it because it’s a family heirloom. I ended up with the car. It was a 1.7 diesel Peugeot 205. I dropped in a 2.1 turbo Diesel engine from a Peugeot 406. Sourced an injector pump from a Citroen bx. Got the injectors modified for maximum flow. Governor cancelled. Fitted a turbocharger from a 3.0 Renault espace. The car started life with 60 bhp, it’s now running 250 bhp. Real fun car to drive. Weighs under 800kg. Modern cars pull alongside and laugh. When the light turns green, they stop laughing. Can pull 0-60 in under 6 seconds I’d love to bring it here but the steering wheel is on the “wrong” side
  3. Ford Probe for sale at home. £1,550 (7,200 dhs) full scorpion exhaust system, new shock absorbers and lowering springs all round. New discs and pads. Full set of goodridge hoses. Not the best car in the world but it’s getting rare now and prices are going up so a good one is a good investment. So much potential, sleek sexy looks, Mazda mx6 engine. So much failure, they made it FWD to save costs. If it was RWD it would have been a proper cult classic instead of something traded between people in the know. Still a good investment though. As long as you don’t crash it, the value will go up. Way cooler, rarer and more interesting than an old FWD Toyota Celica. And the pop up headlights are cooler than a polar bear stuck in the ice dying of hypothermia.
  4. When I was at school messing around with bands we used to make up our own lyrics to popular songs. One of my favourites was a cover of yesterday by the Beatles. Leprosy im not half the man I used to be theres an arm hanging off of me oh I believe, in leprosy I also remember doing a cover of Abbas mamma Mia called diarrhoea but that’s a story for another day.
  5. I always like to keep an eye on the job ads, this is UAE after all and you never know what will happen from one month to the next. I don’t know about the rest of you but I would be worried about catching leprosy from potential future coworkers.... Also a bit suspect that they don’t offer visa. Been there done that. Too many employers get away with too much here.
  6. I guess everyone wants to be part of the cool gang
  7. Spotted this in Al Quoz earlier. Thought @shadow79 and some others may enjoy a laugh.
  8. Having a little 1.3 is what makes a jimny a jimny and gives it its plucky little fighter character. It works and people love it and keep buying them so I can’t see them deviating from that formula any time soon but apparently it’s pretty easy to drop a Suzuki B16A into them. Personally I wouldn’t want to go any bigger than that or it will become a little box of death.
  9. 2 new Suzuki Jimny concepts set to debut at Tokyo Auto Salon later this month. The Sierra Pickup Style The Survive
  10. Total BS joke music but the band knows that. It’s like alien spinal tap. Super talented musicians though. Would love to see them play live in UAE but it would probably be a deportationfest.
  11. I need some work done to a guitar. Specifically, installing a floyd rose trem and locking nut system on a string thru body guitar. I need some other work done but this will start my project off. I know, I know, just buy a guitar with floyd rose, but what I want isn’t available here. Its a pretty expensive rare guitar that isn’t made anymore so it’s a one time shot deal and I need someone who can get it right first time. I can’t afford mistakes. Dont mind travelling or paying for someone who can do a proper job. Any recommendations, please shout out so I can research their work.
  12. Mabrook! Looks like you had a good time. Sorry I couldn’t make it, maybe next year. Happy new year to all!

    Hello!

    Hi Per. Welcome to Carnity!
  14. Probably this. Might be a little servo motor, or the flap or linkage. They’re incredibly sensitive. If it goes off by even one tooth the calibration gets messed up and it cycles back and forward. Good news is your car is new enough to run a diagnostic scan on the HVAC system so if there is a problem, the computer will tell you exactly where it is. If you have a proper computer. Might be as simple as removing the servo motor, turning it around a bit and screwing it back on. Scan it and see what comes up. I’ve got a copy of Consult software if you’re stuck.
  15. There is a permanent live power supply to the head unit to keep the memory after you switch the vehicle off. There’s a problem with that somewhere. Check your fuses, it’s probably the same one as the cigarette lighter.
  16. Look on the bright side. At least he didn’t sell a pre 56 with an oval rear window for a set of buttons like mine did 😂
  17. 2 years ago the UAE government changed the law to make it illegal for dealerships to cancel warranty for cars serviced in outside garages. https://www.emirates247.com/news/emirates/uae-car-owners-relief-compulsory-maintenance-at-agency-abolished-2016-02-09-1.620419 As long as you stick to the official Nissan service schedule, use genuine parts and keep all your receipts, you can service your car wherever you like. DED take all complaints seriously and will fight on your side against any dealer who tried to cancel your warranty.
  18. You know exactly what it means. The amount of men you have in your company is a status symbol. It doesn’t even matter if they don’t know the difference between a 10 and 13mm spanner. If you have 15 employees who don’t know shit, you are more successful than the guy with 2 good mechanics
  19. It is worth it for ordering parts. Like you say, if you’re sending stuff away to get rebuilt, prices can get a bit mental. For transmissions, you can send them to dexol in al quoz. I’ve been using them for a long time and their work has always been perfect. There are some good engine builders here too. The sad reality is some people don’t recognise quality, they just want to pay the smallest price. Then when they get an engine that burns oil, they complain all mechanics in UAE are crap. They’re not. There are crap mechanics but there are good mechanics but good mechanics won’t work for crap mechanic salary. I turn down work every day. I might be a bit crazy but I’m not going to do shite work. I take pride in what I do. If someone wants good work, time costs money. If I had a dirham for every time a customer wasn’t happy with my price and got it done somewhere else then came back and asked me to fix it, I’d have enough money to leave Dubai and sit on my porch playing guitar, listening to Bob Marley and smoke ganja every day. I have an emirati friend. He collects datsuns. Every year he sends all his engines to japan for a rebuild. Proper expensive. I asked him if he was mad. He says he doesn’t trust the labour here. And I don’t blame him. He keeps asking me to open my own garage. I’d love to but properly trained mechanics are expensive. I have investors. I can hire one trained mechanic for 10k per month or hire 10 bengalis for the same price and spend my days fixing things they broke. What would you do? Ill stick to my day job for now
  20. Parts are available easy in eBay. If you set up a shop and ship somewhere with aramex or ups or somewhere, you can have anything from anywhere in the world delivered in a few days. Complaining about lead times isn’t cool anymore and isn’t an excuse. In this modern day and age, it’s possible if you’re prepared to do a bit of research. If Vin Diesel can get overnight parts from Japan, everyone else should be able to do it. I order a lot of stuff from America for classic mustangs, corvettes, el caminos and other weird stuff and most of it gets here in a few days if it’s organised properly.
  21. The third row of seats in anything is madness. Most of the crashes here are rear end impacts. Have you ever seen the back of a car squashed up after a crash? Would you want your kids to sit there? They ARE the crumple zone. It might be a selling point to have extra seats but in reality, it’s dangerous.
  22. Saw a motorbike patrol cop today. One hand on the throttle and phone in the other texting or facebooking or whatever he was doing. And his riding was bad. He was swerving everywhere. If the people who are supposed to uphold the law don’t follow it themselves, how can there be any law. *awaits deportation
  23. Friend back home has one. Can’t answer how it is in the desert but it’s pretty good in snow and mud and in the mountains. His is a TD with loads of work done, big turbo, big pump, big injectors etc.
  24. I can fix cars but nobody ever said I was stable or well adjusted.
  25. Just to put some stuff to bed, Oil in the coolant is a sign of head gasket failure Coolant in the oil is a sign of head gasket failure Bubbles in the coolant is a sign of head gasket failure Disappearing coolant is a sign of head gasket failure Low compression across 2 cylinders is a sign of head gasket failure Water in the exhaust is a sign of head gasket failure Overheating is a sign of head gasket failure A failed head gasket can cause any combination of these. The symptoms can also be caused by unrelated problems. The head gasket separates the combustion chamber, oilways and waterways. But just because some symptoms are showing, it’s both wrong and unprofessional to jump to conclusions and pull an engine apart because you think you know better. Proper diagnosis should be made first. I’ve seen a guy with a X5 recently paying for a full rebuild when all he needed was a jubilee clip. But he knew better so I said ok, get a rebuild. He came back to me 6k later complaining his car was still overheating. A 10 minute pressure test would have told him that. E.g. Creamy mayo on the filler cap? Yeah, might be a gasket problem, might also be a faulty oil cooler, maybe even just condensation because of winter. Nah, let’s pull the engine apart and stick a new gasket in. Make proper diagnoses and fix things properly first time instead of guessing and getting lucky. I didn’t get to be working on expensive cars just by guessing things. If I was into the guessing game, I’d rent a parking space in rashidiya and survive on 100 dhs per day. There’s nothing UK about it, it’s called being professional.
