  1. Do they have the electric golf buggies in Dubai mall? I've seen them in battuta mall. More of those would be more useful than a car nobody will realistically get to use.
  2. I worked in a scrapyard in Ireland for 5 years and tearing cars apart with a 21 tonne komatsu excavator every day was one of the most fun jobs I ever had.
  3. If the transfer case oil was dirty, a piece of grit could have got into the sensor and jammed it. I've seen it happen before on pajeros. It's just a matter of taking the sensor out, cleaning it with some petrol and freeing it up. Test it with a multimeter first before refitting it and make sure it's working properly. Of course, this might not be the problem but it's better to try the cheap and easy fixes first.
  4. I checked this out a couple of days ago. Initially I suspected it would be the driveshafts too but on further investigation I was able to replicate the noise using a prybar at the side of the diff mount bushings. Had a look at the bushings and they were in bad shape. The rubber is deteriorated and cracked.
  5. This is very true. When you go to Sharjah you take your chances with guys who have no education and no formal training, only minimal stuff that is learnt on the job. Even rashidiya to an extent. The professionals all hang out in al quoz and dip. You get what you pay for, simple.
  6. Have you scanned the car with STAR software? What was the results and codes logged?
  7. It sounds to me like some sort of facial recognition system that only allows designated persons to drive the vehicle. I could be wrong though
  8. Definitely test drive the WRX. I've had a couple of the older models and they are immense fun to drive. It's the sort of car that you can just throw into a corner and it grips and grips. More likely to understeer than oversteer but if you're good with the handbrake you can get some big slides going. Lots of good cars are available in UAE but it depends what turns you on. Big American V8 with RWD, small Japanese hatchback with a turbo and rwd or 4wd etc. Also do you want a new car or would you consider something older? I saw a lovely R33GTR last week if you would consider something a bit older and left field.
  9. If you want I can take a look at it for you and tell you if it actually needs replacing or not.
  10. I don't think they are from a garage. It was just some guys having fun with an old Golf before it went to scrap.
  11. Call Location Garage on 0521742967. I am chief technician and I specialise in pajeros as many members on here will testify.
  12. Yes the ST is available but they're very few and far between. I'd advise checking on parts availability and delivery times before making a purchase. Very capable car though. The RS is available. Maybe. I saw one in Al Quoz last month.
  13. @Gaurav. Yes I can take a look at it for free of charge. I'm based in Al Quoz. Call me 0521742967
  14. DSG isn't sealed for life though. VW have a recommended service schedule for it.
  15. Sorry guys, I've reached my carnity picture upload limit so I can't post any more. But if you have time to go here, I'd recommend it.
  16. Took a trip to Sharjah classic car museum with mrs Barry and my brother in law. All in all, a good experience. I'd recommend you go. Over 100 cars. Most of them are in their original state, i.e. All unrestored, complete with patina. The highlights for me were the French classics, Peugeot 304, Citroen Ds, plus the German vw karmann ghost. Here are a few teaser pics, go see the rest for your self.....
  17. It could be any number of things. You need to take it to a proper mechanic.
  18. Engines generally last as long as the car if they're looked after properly. It's usually all the other electrical crap and ancillaries bolted to them that goes wrong. Why do you feel you need to change your engine? What's wrong with it?
  19. After spending almost 4 hours today removing an engine from a BMW, I wish I could have just done this, 😂
  20. All the rings are metal. If they were made of rubber, they would simply melt as soon as the engine was started. There's a lot of heat inside the cylinder. Lucky for you I'm currently working on an engine with a piston ring problem so I can show you a pic. The engine was overheated and the rings stuck inside the grooves on the piston so they weren't pushing against the cylinder wall and creating a seal. This resulted in the engine losing compression and not starting unless oil was put into the cylinder. You can see from left to right, primary ring, secondary ring and oil ring. You will also notice that the oil ring is grooved to let it carry oil around the base of the piston.
  21. https://7days.ae/fog-expected-continue-dubai-week/97783 107 accidents in a 5 hour period! Stay safe people, drive to suit the road conditions.
  22. When was the last time the DSG oil and filter was changed?
