  1. The problem with those trucks is that it's not good to tow an automatic vehicle with the driven wheels on the ground. And everything here is automatic. So if it's RWD and you lift the front up and tow with the driven wheels on the ground, you could damage the transmission. When the engine is running, oil is pumped around the transmission and everything is nicely lubricated. When the engine isn't running and you're towing with the driven wheels on the ground, everything inside the transmission is still spinning but there's no lubrication. Think about your engine running nicely and everything well lubricated. Then take the chain off the oil pump and start it again. It wouldn't be long until it siezed.
  2. @Rahimdad are you talking about these? Polaris Slingshot. Me and @DiamondDallas saw one in Al Quoz last week.
  3. It took me around an hour and a half to figure out what was wrong with it and the same time again rewiring. Price to customer was cheaper than the price of a second hand SAM.
  4. How about the Morgan Aero 8? I think it's a really pretty car but then you see those cross eyed headlights and they just ruin everything.
  5. Had this S Class in for a while but I was so busy with my Pajero farm I hadn't time to look at it properly until now. Brake lights were permanently on and gearbox was stuck in P. On most cars, there is a shift lock release but unfortunately not on this car so it's not like it could be released and driven as a quick fix. A lot of the time on these cars, it's caused by a faulty brake light switch so I pulled it out and checked it and it tested fine so I had to dig a bit further. Plugged the computer in and got a number of faults, one being that communication had been lost with the rear SAM (signal acquisition module, or a computer thing to most people). Due to the age and condition of the car, it wasn't worth replacing so I made with some fancy rewiring and bypassed some things and now it's better than it was before it left the factory. This car is a jap import that had been converted to LHD so there's some really bad wiring in it to begin with.
  6. I stand by my comments... I've also just discovered the Nissan Juke convertible,
  7. I forgot about this 'beauty',
  8. Amaron are the only batteries I recommend to my customers. In the U.K. all I ever used was Varta. Never had any issues with either.
  9. If it handles anything like their petrol engined 3 wheeler it will be a complete driftbus.
  10. Tesla has been told to drop the Autopilot brand name, which it uses to promote its driver-assistance software, in Germany. The Federal Motor Transport Authority (KBA) confirmed it had told Tesla to scrap the "misleading" term. It said the term gave customers "incorrect expectations" that they could stop concentrating on the road and let Autopilot take over completely. Tesla said it had always told drivers to keep their hands on the wheel. The Autopilot software helps cars: ■ stay in lane automatically ■ adjust their speed in reaction to other vehicles ■ change lane without the driver's intervention However, Tesla has been clear that the feature should only be used on the motorway, and drivers must still pay full attention to the road. The firm has been under scrutiny after one of its vehicles running Autopilot crashed, killing the owner. "It can be confirmed that a letter to Tesla exists with the request to no longer use the misleading term Autopilot for the driver-assistance system of the car," a KBA spokeswoman told news agency Reuters. According to the German newspaper Bild am Sonntag, the letter to Tesla said: "We demand that the misleading term Autopilot is no longer used in advertising the system." In a statement, Tesla said the term autopilot had been used in aviation for decades. "Tesla's Autopilot operates in conjunction with the human driver to make driving safer and less stressful. This is how the term has been used for decades in aerospace: to denote a support system that operates under the direct supervision of a human pilot," the company said. "We have always been clear with our customers that Autopilot is a drivers assistance system that requires the driver to pay attention at all times. "Just as in an airplane, when used properly, Autopilot reduces driver workload and provides an added layer of safety when compared to purely manual driving." The company's co-founder Elon Musk had been expected to make an announcement related to Tesla on Monday, but he has now tweeted that it has been delayed until Wednesday for "refinement".
  11. In your opinion, what do you think is the ugliest car ever produced?
  12. The FIA's support series to Formula E is unique in that it will have no drivers. Announced in 2015 and scheduled to demo during the 2016/17 Formula E season, ‘Roborace’ will feature a grid of physically identical cars- the challenge to the 10 teams being to develop the artificial intelligence required to allow the car to compete. http://roborace.com/
  13. That's what forums should be about. Sharing is caring 😊 Drop by the garage for a coffee any time. I always have time for a chat.
  14. @Rahimdad absolutely no offence taken and I agree with your points. I too have been part of workshops like you mention which always lead to me never working for them for long. Now I'm with Location Garage and I'm foreman, I have the chance to do work to the proper standard I'm used to working to in the uk. Many many times I have been asked to deliberately do shoddy work when with other companies. Now, before I carry out any work, I inform the customer of what needs to be done and how it will be done. They have the opportunity to read all my books and get all the information. Anyone is welcome to visit the garage any time and call in for tea, coffee and a chat. Work or no work.
  15. The first time I saw one of the bigger geelys I had to walk around the back to check the badge. I couldn't believe it was Chinese. In 3-4 years when they have been on the road for a while we will see what they are really like.
  16. Really? Chinese cars aren't allowed in America? That's something I didn't know. I know a couple of guys in the U.K. who bought Great Wall pickups and they seem to swear by them. They've have no major issues in 4 years of ownership. Chinese cars have a stigma attached to them. I wonder if it's going to be the same as Japanese cars in the late 70s/early 80s where everyone used to laugh at them and now they're one of the. Invest car manufacturing nations in the world. Also Korea with brands like Hyundai and Kia that were once a laughing stock in the 90s and are now producing some of the most popular cars on the road Personally, I have no problem with Chinese products. When you look at some of the smartphones they are producing, Huawei, Oppo etc. A few years ago they were unknown and now they're becoming market leaders. Then on the other hand you have a Korean brand like Samsung who were supposed to be one of the biggest and have just recalled 2.5 million phones that were randomly catching fire then replaced them with an updated model that also caught fire. I say give the Chinese a chance.
  17. Here are some useful links for owners manuals, workshop manuals, parts catalogues etc. If anyone has any other useful links, please feel free to share, http://jdmfsm.info/Auto/ http://uploaded.net/folder/xwfxxg Japanese parts catalogues, http://www.epc-data.com VW/Audi/Seat/Skoda parts, http://www.etka.cc VIN decoder (find out your cars original spec etc.) http://www.vindecoderz.com I also have full workshop manuals for most of the popular GCC stuff on my laptop, Patrol, Landcruiser, Camry, Lexus, Pajero etc. If anyone wants any, drop by the garage with a memory stick and I'll give you a copy.
  18. Scrapyards are generally a good place to find owners manuals. If the scrapyard has one of the cars, chances are there will be a manual in the glovebox. I used to make some spare cash going round the scrapyards at home, giving a bad price for all the manuals I could get my hands on then selling them on eBay.
  19. Who's laughing at Geely now? http://www.autocar.co.uk/car-news/motorsport/bloodhound-ssc-land-speed-record-gets-go-ahead-geely-confirms-sponsorship
  20. It's good to know there are other people out there with the same disease as me. Happy birthday Carnity and may you have many more!
  21. If you want, I can plug the computer in and try an idle speed relearn.
  22. If it's inside the dash it'll be tricky to track down but what you can do is stick bits of paper or card in all the gaps you see, beside the radio, glovebox lid etc. If you do them one at a time you should be able to find it. I kind of specialise in pajeros @Gaurav @DiamondDallas 😂
  23. I'd say Location Garage in Al Quoz but I'm biased 😊 Ive worked on a couple of them before.
