  1. Calling all experts An year ago, futtaim diagnosed that my steering rack is faulty. I took it to my local garage and he seconded futtaim's opinion. So how it started? One chilling morning of 2015, I feel a bit of vibration in the accelerator pedal after much notice I realised that it is only when I turn steering at a specific point (let's say from middle to 30 degree right). This was ignored then the vibration became humming noise and then a squeak but only at a specific point. Journey from vibration to hum to squeak was over 3 months or so. Later I got the steering rack replaced as suggested by the futtaim even though my mechanic was saying that local lathe (khirad) / machining would to the job. Same stuff is happening again just after 12 months of replacing the whole steering rack (OEM). It only hums now when cold after 10 kms it is fine I dont feel anything. Any suggestions what is causing it as I feel that may be we did not address the right problem? My car: Toyota Prado 2010 4.0L TXL
  2. Thank you for the comments. Yes indeed it would require loads of planning. Moreover, I am thinking the long trip would be too much for a single day. However, a short trip can be done with disciplined stopovers. Due to the nature of the roads neighboring borders I am not sure if we will have some border issue. Any explorers with experience can comment.
  3. Hi Guys, So last night a crazy idea came to my mind. Why not do a road trip around UAE? The idea is to just drive alongside the borders as much as possible. I came with two versions short one ( https://goo.gl/maps/GVYahWP27rM2 ) as most of the Fujairah region has been explored anyway or the long one ( https://goo.gl/maps/312mYbvwDoH2). Any suggestions are welcome, such as change in route slightly to make it more scenic. Any watchouts based on past experience
  4. how i must start and how i must end, the words are not supporting me to do justice. lets just say, after all the strategic planning (some would understand, what I am saying here) I finally managed to join the party. it was first time to go to the fossil rocks, the terrain was simple for a newbie and fewbie. and the sand was different OMG red. so the convoy was sailing through it and reached the bottom of the fossil rock clim, where as always the gurus @Gaurav and @Rahimdad guided us to the right way to approach and descend the fossil rock. Every newbie had heart up their throat seeing the great descent but with the right approach and patience it was made easy. not to mention your 4x4 will wiggle wiggle for sure The sun was about to set and yet we have to find the ghost town, so eager to see the mystery place. so en-route that we found many desert mosquitos (aka desert buggies) no surprise it was Faya region. So we reached the ghost town but somehow urbanisation had changed the landscape a bit. still felt HAUNTED. The secret SILK route. This a secret route to heaven, and I can say that because I have experienced it. But as they say heaven does not come easy. That's why the route to heaven was challenging with all focused on the path of car ahead and all the prayers that we know. we reached inch by inch, breath by breath to a place where you have left behind the city light and stars are gazing at you. and moonlight kisses. yes no exaggeration its the most peaceful mountain table top that I have ever been. So we coupled it with some SUFI music, DESI snacks and CARNITY gossips. and did we know when it was morning NO IDEA MATE. From sailing, to thrill to tranquility, it will be a night to remember
  5. Oooh no, will miss it. Vote rigging did not work out On the other hand weather would be lovely this weekend enjoy
  6. Here is my attempt to capture the love of sand that we all share. Trust me the pictures dont do justice to what started at gas station with @Rahimdad being the techie to tune radios and ended up on a camel track. Being the newbie on the drive my heart came to throat and heartbeat was like a boom box. But the support from @Gaurav pushing me and trusting me to conquer the dunes. Also worth mentioning Rahimbhai effort to show me the car is much capable than what I thot of. All this changed my fear to adrenaline rush where in the end I was sailing the sand.
