  1. “ (...) the increased police operations in Al Badayer and other popular camping spots aims to curb the use of quad bikes, and prevent the entry of any modified and unlicensed vehicles.”
  2. No details in the announcement, just “traffic fines”, so I suppose it‘s not limited to cameras.
  3. Good news for Sharjah drivers: https://gulfnews.com/uae/transport/50-discount-on-traffic-fines-in-sharjah-1.1571737717605
  4. As it looks like the new season has really started, with the weather getting much better, this drive should be very pleasant. Absolute Newbies are most welcome, however if no beginner sign up we might up the level, depending on the convoy response. This time the drive will take place in Tawi Nazwa/Pink Rock area, which is the perfect environment to learn and grow in a very safe way, but also offers to more advanced off-roaders a few spots to play and test their skills. Also, if time allows, we might continue to Big Red. When: 1 November 2019 Meeting time: 5:30 AM sharp for Absolute Newbies (first timers with Carnity won't be allowed to join the drive if they can't attend the entire briefing) and 6:00 AM sharp for Newbies and above. Where: Tawi Nazwa Shops GPS Coordinate: https://goo.gl/maps/4U9z5Q9HdesX3UU59 Level: All levels welcome. Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 10 inches of ground clearance. Plan: Drive, train and enjoy till about 10:00 AM What to bring along: Snacks - whatever you like with little extra to share -, water, liquids, smiles, stories, enthusiasm and willingness to learn. Approximate finish time: 10:00 AM Please RSVP on the below calendar.

  6. Friday morning after our drive in Sweihan, we noticed a redish oil leak on the ground under my Xterra model X 2012 (driver side). Our first thought with @Gaurav and @Javier M was transmission fluid, but after checking the level, color and smell, it seemed OK. Then I noticed that the steering fluid was lower than normal. The car is running totally normal and I don't have any light signal on my dashboard. Yesterday I took it for a quick visit to a mechanic and, after confirming it was power steering related, he told me that I have to change the PS rack - which is quite expensive. I would like to ask the experts here : does a steering fluid leak really require to change the all rack ? Could it be only joints or rubbers for example ? I know it's hard to answer without seeing the car, but in theory ?
  7. @Atif As it is an intermediate level drive, I think you signed up for the wrong event. Hope to see you soon !
  8. Forgot to mention that you can definitely slip well at the back of an Xterra as there is a lot of space. The back seats are removable and you can even use them as chairs when camping. For your expeditions in Africa, I totally second @Rahimdad : better to rent a good 4x4 there in case you break a part.
  9. Welcome back @Jamy B. ! It’s been more than 2 years now that I bought my used 2012 Xterra and so far I am very happy. It’s a beast off-road and totally fine on road even if it’s not the most comfortable car you can find. Spare parts are available at Nissan and in many places, so no worries at all about that. For off-road I only added a skid plate and a light bar, which is enough TMO.
  10. As it's time to have an intermediate level drive, let's go deeper in Al Yahar/Nahil side of Sweihan area. The plan is to start from this amazing spot we discovered in June (and returned to at the end of summer), head North-East through very promising sets of dunes and exit on the E95. When: Friday 18 October 2019 Meeting time: 5:45 AM sharp Where: In order to earn time, we will meet not far from deflation point (exit from E16). GPS Coordinate: https://goo.gl/maps/ZRq6a2g2WHMYCj6P9 Last petrol stations : 1. ADNOC Al-Hiyar (if you come from E66) https://goo.gl/maps/FU1LJn8bfaJ4AQXw5 ; 2. ADNOC Sweihan (if you come from E16, with a small detour) https://goo.gl/maps/kfRXapzVXqgp2F6E9 Level: intermediate and above Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 10 inches of ground clearance. Plan: Drive and enjoy till about 10 AM. What to bring along: Snacks whatever you like with little extra to share, water, liquids, smiles, stories, enthusiasm and willingness to learn.
