  1. I have two almost unattainable dreams : First one is Liwa-Salalah through the Empty Quarter ; second one is to cross the Gobi desert starting from Badayn Jaran region in China and reach the Lake Hulun in Inner Mongolia.
  2. Sorry buddy, it’s an intermediate level drive. And personally, I prefer not to take a passenger, especially for night drives in such areas.
  3. I found a very useful website where you can find accurate daily timetables, coordinates, degrees, skymaps and all the informations you need to watch satellites, planets and stars : https://www.heavens-above.com/?lat=25.0265&lng=55.656&loc=Unnamed&alt=0&tz=UAEST Sorry, I should have sent it to you before... With a very simple telescope, and even with binoculars, you can see many nice things
  4. If you are sure you can make it for 10 pm, we would be happy to see you ! I think some of us will take a little nap at the exit point before heading back home.
  5. I don’t intend to do anything, actually, I am just curious. Is it (or can it be) a good option to buy a car for personal use ? Or even for export ? Has someone in Carnity ever tried it ? Non damaged
  6. I would be curious to know how risky is this way to acquire a private car. Anyone bought his car from auctions, Emirates Auction or other platforms?
  7. Of course! Every week, by night. If you join the Off-road Club you will be able to see the calendar.

As it's time to have an intermediate level drive, let's pay a visit to our beloved Sweihan, maybe the most thrilling dunes that can be found not too far from Dubai. After the last newbie-fewbie relaxed drives, the plan is simply to increase the pace and the altitude, and enjoy this amazing playground ! When: Thursday 13 June 2019 Meeting time: 10 PM sharp Where: In order to earn time, we will meet directly at deflation point (exit from E16). GPS Coordinate: https://goo.gl/maps/VZRCeeQTKNaF9xZD8 Last petrol stations : 1. ADNOC Al-Hiyar (if you come from E66) https://goo.gl/maps/FU1LJn8bfaJ4AQXw5 ; 2. ADNOC Sweihan (if you come from E16, with a small detour) https://goo.gl/maps/kfRXapzVXqgp2F6E9 Level: Strictly intermediate and above Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 10 inches of ground clearance. Offroad lights highly recommended. Plan: Drive and enjoy till about 3-4 am. What to bring along: Snacks whatever you like with little extra to share, water, liquids, smiles, stories, enthusiasm and willingness to learn. Approximate finish time: 3:00 am

  10. @Javier M being pulled out by @Brette 😂
  11. Speaking of specialities, next time I can bring some stinky french cheese. Just make sure you have a good health insurance !
  12. If you go for an Xterra (happy owner speaking here), have a look at this thread above. My advice: look for the post 2008 models, third generation, the latest year you can. On those cars the year is more important than the mileage - bear in mind that an Xterra can go to 400-500K if well taken care of. Of course you need to ask a mechanic to check the car before you buy it. I personally drive an « X » model, which is the basic and cheapest one. I just added a skid plate and a light bar and for me it’s just fine.
  13. And I don’t advise you to venture in the dunes around, even with experienced drivers. As I mentioned earlier, this area can be very tricky.
  14. Squeaking is back, although very discreet, since yesterday. The lithium grease miracle lasted almost two months, despite weekly off-road drives. So in conclusion : not bad for a 10-20dhs and 5 mn job.
  15. So, regarding Dubai Lake, there is no public access to it as it is the Sheikh’s private property. The surroundings are very soft technical dunes with slipfaces as steep as walls and with nasty pockets and bushes everywhere. Nice views and lot of gazels but I wouldn’t recommend this area, would you @Srikumar and @Gaurav?
  16. I don’t think so. DDCR is located on the southern side of Margham road and the lake is on the northern side. The lake area itself is fenced but it looks like there is a public access.
  17. I’ll do my best to come. Will confirm tomorrow.
  18. All kidding aside, this is a very good contribution, @Shamil. Very important to wear proper shoes, especially in summer nights when snakes and scorpions are out. The better is to wear boots or high hiking shoes.
