DRIVE RSVP IS NOW CLOSED As we will be having a pretty big convoy tomorrow, some requests from my side: - When you deflate, please double-check if you are at 14-15PSI for street tyres, and 12-13PSI if you have A/T tyres. This will help in flotation. - Make sure you all have an offroad flag, programmed radio for Carnity frequencies, pressure gauge, and a shovel. Without these tools you will not be allowed on the drive. - For the Fewbies, please do help in assisting your fellow Newbies where you can. - Please abide by the COVID rules strictly. - Keep 4-5 cars distance between the cars so you can keep your momentum at all times. If you need to stop, try to find a flat spot and coast to a stop (no hard braking). - Please tune in to Channel 2: 446.03125 Mhz on your radio. See you guys tomorrow 06:00AM Sharp !

Current Waitlist: 1) @[email protected] 2) @Ranjan Das 3) @Arda Yagcioglu We are doing our best and hopeful we will find spaces for some (if not all) of you on Friday. Normally, after the drive reminder is sent we find that a few people remember they have another commitment, or some people simply cannot make it. Please continue to stay on standby as things change at the last minute. You might get a message late Thursday that a place has come up, or a message that we can take you - so please don't give up hope yet. Thanks !

Brette has been promoted to Expert level
Frederic replied to Gaurav's topic in Off-Road Club's Announcements
@Brette we have started our Carnity adventure around the same time, and i admired you (and still do) for bringing the JGC on a weekly basis which gave you a bit more of steeper learning curve in comparison with my little blue. You have come a long way since then, and your weekly support on the drives, your positive attitude, and friendly approach to all members have brought this well deserved promotion. The road is now open again for the next challenge which no doubt you will master very quickly ! Congrats !! -

We need to split them up in two categories: 1) USA spec cars: These are mostly insurance written off vehicles from US that were involved in an accident or have flood damage. You can be lucky to find one which was exported for none of these reasons, but you will need to be extra cautious, do a VIN check and try to find owner/maintenance history and get the vehicle inspected by a skilled mechanic. In some cases the cars are imported in the UAE, quicky welded back together in a workshop in Sharjah, and thrown back on the market. In other words if you don't want to take these risks AVOID US spec cars. 2) Japan spec cars: These are mostly vehicles that did not pass the strict yearly inspections in Japan, or were exported because of age or other reasons. I have seen very nice low mileage Japan cars and personally would not mind buying one if the condition is fine. In both above cases the pitfalls is buying a salvaged vehicle that has been fixed up quickly, in other words a LEMON. But if you want to take the risk, benefits are much lower prices. Also note that some non-GCC vehicles do not have the same specs in terms of engine cooling / radiator, and will struggle in this climate. @DANIEL NOGUEIRA as you are in the business, you can tell me i am wrong or add your view on this.

Two Way Radio Crony CY5800
Frederic replied to RAKIN KURIAKOSE's topic in Off-Road Club's Discussions
Hi @RAKIN KURIAKOSE you will only be able to use them if you are able to find a programming cable and laptop with the Crony software. The software can be downloaded from cronyelec.com but is mostly in Chinese language so it’s a bit tricky. the cable you can find in Dragon mart (baofeng USB cable works also). If you are not technically inclined i would recommend you to buy the Crony MT777 or Baofeng UV5R. These can be programmed without cables or software as they have a programming display. -
Jeep Grand Cherokee Project car.
Frederic replied to Rahimdad's topic in Jeep Grand Cherokee Forum in UAE
Nice write up. Having a project car is amazing and seeing it slowly coming alive and getting better gives a huge sense of achievement, as long as you remain realistic about the money, labor, sweat and tears it might also take. With the money I have spent already on my little project car, I could have bought a nice capable Off-roader with less miles on the clock, but then again I love driving something that’s rare and brings a challenge to tame. I totally understand this guy and wish him all the best to make the beast roar again. Best feeling in the world! -
Wrangeld (Richard) has been promoted to Marshal level
Frederic replied to Gaurav's topic in Off-Road Club's Announcements
In a time not too very long ago, Richard and Marjan joined our club with the main desire of doing some stuff together on the weekends and enjoying the wonderful scenery that UAE has to offer. They came across Carnity but little did they probably know how far this would bring them. Fast forward a year or something and both of you have come to an off-road level in the club that requires patience, skills, mental resilience, and so much more. All skills that both of you bring and demonstrate every single week and I am delighted with this news. The Carnity family has another pillar and I look forward to many more drives with you and cracking jokes together over the radio or while deflating at 03:00 in the morning with eyes still half shut 🤣. To many more valve stems flying out, compressors exploding, and flags falling off the coming years !! See you soon in our sands or my backyard 😜 -

Frederic replied to Sreejith Sreenivasan's topic in Nissan Pathfinder Forum in UAE
Little on the high side, but if well maintained and not abused you could be having a fantastic offroad vehicle. -
Cherokee vs. Grand 4.7 vs. Grand 5.7
Frederic replied to Ahmed Farghaly's topic in Off-Road Club's Discussions
Not 100% sure but i think this was the location: https://goo.gl/maps/FED543eHd7Tpc7Qw8 If not, just continue further on the road direction Sharjah. It was a car dealer and there were at least 4-5 Pathfinders R50 next to each other. -
Cherokee vs. Grand 4.7 vs. Grand 5.7
Frederic replied to Ahmed Farghaly's topic in Off-Road Club's Discussions
I have seen a whole bunch of them for sale at the E88 Sharjah to Al Dhaid road two weeks back. We went looking for a nice majlis couch and found it on that same road from the guys making tents. -
Stick to the original oil recommended by Mitsubishi. Otherwise you are opening up a can of worms. The additional fan will most probably solve your problem. Also please investigate for yourself if during high level drives if the car is constantly upshifting and downshifting too frequenty, that could be related to yourself on how you are pushing or holding back the gas pedal. That is why using tiptronic is better as long as again you are not constantly shifting gears. Long story short: try to keep the car in the same gear as much as possible and a long as possible.
-
Specifically on Pajeros: On higher level drives my advice would be to use Tiptronic, as the regular D(AUTO) reacts quite slow and overreacts at times. The aim of using tiptronic would be to keep the car as much as possible in its same gear. The transmission heats up from constant shifting inbetween gears, which happens more often in D as the car is trying to figure out what you want to do. If you have a steady foot you can keep it in D. Transmission overheating can have many reasons, but in Pajero adding an extra fan on the oil cooler seems to help. @Vanessa8580 started using Tiptronic on most drives now and never faced overheating issues. Of course it depends also on yourself as a driver: if you use tiptronic but are constantly shifting back and forth you will get the same overheating result. Proper deflation is another thing. I still see lots of people driving with wrong tyre pressure, so the car has to work much harder and brings more stress to drive components, engine, and transmission.
