Drive Report: I was expecting a foggy drive to Sweihan, which wasn't the case and I reached our starting point by 7.15 am. Relaxed and enjoyed the cool fresh breeze amidst some stunning dunes of Sweihan. Everyone of the signups arrived on time, deflated and prepped ready for our cool morning drive. We went through the dirt track and hit the dunes heading north towards ADNOC sweihan. We had a mix of all learning- refusals, stucks, crest and special recovery which was done considering the tricky situation we were in. And yes we witnessed what a simple tool like shovel (Big spade with a D handle, not the spoons) can do to get you out of a stuck situation. Some learning points - - Momentum is the key along with having a right approach is the most important key for the correct and safe way to drive on sands without "beating the living snot out of your vehicle"😜. - Do Not fight gravity - when you are losing momentum on slopes the safest way is to steer down and exit. - Dune crossing- to cross over a crest, do not be too shy of gas. Please try to repeat what the car is front does and you will be able to cross over without any issue. - Park your car on a flat dune, or with nose down so that you have a easy restart. - On soft sand when you give more gas when you are not moving - you dig yourself deeper into the sand. If you are not moving then gas will not get you out. We all including me have learnt it by making all these mistakes and learning over time, what we intend is for you all to learn is to do it safely. @Hasan Wahlan was a perfect 2nd lead following my directions correctly and wait when he saw me struggling in some areas.Thank you @Hashem Rihan did well for his first drive in his RR. Some of the self recoveries were impressive. @Amanda Milnes played the role of copilot to perfection. @Alex Sidorov drove well and was getting used to his JGC on sand. Very well done to ask for help when needed , as it is better to be safe than sorry. Love and hugs (covid free 😍)to your son. @muzrma came up with his Patrol Y61 , which was a surprise as I was expecting a ford expedition . You have got a great car which does amazingly well on the sand. @Ruan van den Heever thank you so much for sweeping. Your presence at the back was reassuring whenever you said "all good ". Please note and bring along for the next drive you join - Flag and mount - Programmed Radio ( easiest is to order from edragon mall, online. Baofeng UV5R are worth the price you pay. No conflicts of interest here) - Deflator - Pressure gauge - shovel. Recovery points- you all witnessed how important it is to have proper recovery points (atleast one) in front and back of your car, preferably two if possible. Frankly you all in Abu Dhabi are blessed with such nice areas , it's always a treat for members in Dubai to come over there.( with a minor hurdle of Covid testing as of now)

If at any time you felt it was a bit fast you could have let me know.In fact I was very much aware to go slow considering one of the car had a warning light (suspension). But frankly, you all drove well which was fantastic for a Newbie drive. We had a mix of everything, and some good learning on recoveries.

These are readily available in ACE Hardware, Apex Hardware, Adventure HQ or tire shops and hardware shops near you. Please let me know - you have front and rear recovery points in good condition - your car and prior off road experience - do you have a radio with programmed channels - do you have a shovel , deflator, compressor and a safety flag with pole to be mounted /attached on your car. Looks good and practical. Definitely will keep boot neat and arranged but my concern being 1. Obscuring blind spots on highway which is more important. 2. recovery gear is pretty heavy . Tieing then with straps on these might wear and tear soon while being offroad where it's quite jerky all the time.

@luwaimn a proper bash plate (6mm or more) will keep the bumper pretty safe unless you maneuver extremely to make impacts and cause damage. We have members who drive Prado, probably can advise better with their experience( @Tero Vallas, @Mahmoud Hamzawy , @Nizam Deen , @asif , @Mikhail Lukichev) Slightly altering your approach and departure with some controlled speed will save your bumper for sure with a bash plate. Yes the air dam or low liners have to be removed .

@Srikumar kindly note as per the SEHA app the latest validity for DPI is reduced to 48 hours only. Hence the information needs to be amended in the advise. Below is screen shot from the SEHA App today

Dobinson offers 1 year warranty whereas meanmother offers 5year warranty.( for similar flow rates of 160L/min for mean mother and 170L/min for Dobinson). Both inflate pretty much in same time. Cost for Dobinson is higher. With repeated used it boils to warranty which helps to claim your repair or replacements. But all said and done there are some basic rules to extend your compressor life 1. Use in a clean flat area if using a removable one 2. Give small breaks for the compressor to cool down between inflating tires - especially in summer when outside temperatures are soaring. Another alternative to try during summer months is inflating till 25psi so that the car is drivable on tarmac and top it at a near by petrol station. 3. Keep hose pipes straight especially near the attachment to compressor. After inflation do not roll them into very small loops as this tends to crack the heated hose easily 4. Do all this and "pray" it lasts as much as it can if it is a Camel one from the dragon mart.🤣🤣 Some lucky members have used it for many years here without any problems

Another very common issue is the hose attachments heating and breaking or cracking up. Especially at the joint where u remove and connect each time. These replacement hoses can be found at D.M for around 40 to 50 AED which have around 9m tube to reach all tires. I am not sure if we can fix these cracked hoses @Frederic ?

@Hardik ModyGet the higher profile tires that fit your rims without rubbing the fenders as that helps best on sand , else you will need melt modor some other alteration for the plastic lining to push it in. 265 or 275/70-75 R16 would be best , though the difference between 70 and 75 is marginal. (Refer pic below)I suppose the options in AT for 75 profile are lesser in market You will not go wrong with Yoko G015 AT, provided you are driving on sand only. Side walls are a bit soft for wadis.
