Not here on the forum, as CB is not really used in UAE. @Simon Dcorrect me if am wrong.

Ham radio enthusiasts here are usually broadcasting in the VHF 145Mhz freq range.

Anything that is not in the PMR446 frequency range, will require you getting a permit. Simon has obtained this and can provide more info on CB vs VHF vs UHF.

Thanks @Frederic- i thought CB meant onboard.

I'm looking for an onboard UHF radio.

I got a CB radio instead, I don't have to worry about my battery running out, there is plenty of options in Amazon US (dont bother on amazon.ae).

Sorry if it already exists - are there some forum discussions on CB radios somewhere? Looking to get one for my setup.

    360-degree camera installation.

    Sorry, off-topic, but

Very curious about this 360 camera - my straight reverse camera on the y61 itself is such a pain as there is no obvious center mounting location.

Is it integrated into the pioneer system?

    Is it stock?

While you are out there scouting for your new rig to upgrade from your Jimny, you could also add the Nissan Patrol Safari (2DR or also referred to as the 3 door) manual or automatic option to your list. It costs around the same as the LC70. Nissan is wider and seems more stable, though you can check the technical details with the experts and take their advice.

++ more creature comforts if you get the super safari

     - electric leather seats

     - auto AC

     - Coil springs

It's not the fastest vehicle out there - but in SWB it should be perfect. LWB is really slow :(.

The setup I have in my car, a Y61 SWB, more or less allows me to inflate four ~33” tires, from 10psi to 35psi, in almost 5 minutes and also allows me to run air tools, it consists of two ARB dual compressors and a 20l air tank.

This setup sounds really cool. Need to check it out when i get a chance when we're on the same drive.

@Frederic @Looper agree with what you guys have said @Alphin Aloor the tank was a great addition for me on several fronts, all of which Looper has alluded to, it is most definitely quicker ,especially when filling all 4 tires at once, it is much better when using Air tools especially my air jack as you need volume of air for these, and it saves the compressor as it is not working so hard. I have yet to fit blue tooth as the financial manager at home needs some respite from all of the other purchases for my not so cheap hobby lol :) but I am sure it will come :)

@Davie Chasedoes the compressor shut off automatically when the tank fills up and the output is closed? This theoretically means that you can leave the compressor turned on all the time right?

    1. A Bluetooth Module: I have it. I use it to set up the desired pressure on the phone and it helps to get correct pressure on all 4 tires without me having to monitor or run around to disconnect the air hose from the tire. I will recommend it for its convenience. Will cost about 1000.

@Looper does this work with a TPMS inside the tyre?

  7. After bashplates, infotainment and some lights on my y61, i'm moving to the next step in my modification journey - an onboard compressor.

I actually have no issues with my dragon mart golden camel - using it for ~3 years now and it pumps faster than most petrol pumps.

However, an onboard arb twin seems like a more integrated and cleaner solution long-term.

I would like some advice on the benefits of having a tank connected to the compressor.

    • is it faster?
    • do you always leave it on? air on demand?
    • where to position the tank and the compressor?

    Thanks

  8. I recently bought a Y61 and i'm finding my social media algorithms aligning to it now. And i'm exposed to these tyres in the y61 community that can be vaguely described as balloon tyres (Airplane tyres?).

Every since i was a kid, growing up in Dubai, i've always wondered about them. Why do they exist? How are they they better/worse than the favourites (G015, LTX Force, AT2, KO2 etc.)? Pros and cons, as they look very good.

It's a bit hard find name brands on these, but some i've found are:

    • Maxxis Desert Maxx / Maxxis 900.17
    • Sahara Tyres

  9. Al Futtaim has started selling v6 Hilux for personal use for a couple of years now. I test drove the vehicle and really liked it.

Hilux seems to have a good reputation for reliability and offroading (in other regions).

Does anyone have any recommendations/opinions of a V6 Hilux for the UAE desert/rock lifestyle?

My other option is a VTC Patrol - which is significantly more expensive and less fuel efficient.
