Popular Post Frederic
With the pleasant weather these days, we decided to head out to Wadi Naqab with the aim of doing a bit of wadi driving and a hike of a couple of hours. PART 1 - EASY WADI DRIVE The first meeting point of the Wadi is here: 25.70380, 56.06568 https://goo.gl/maps/d4YQpADWo5w2AXHF8 From here you can park if you have a sedan, but it will be a long hike to head into the actual wadi. It is recommended to have a 4x4 / SUV and drive further into the wadi. We were able to park here: 25.71719, 56.11140 https://goo.gl/maps/K8d8BSt2JbyVqe3b8 PART 2 - EASY WADI HIKE This first part (purple) is like walking in a riverbed and is not difficult at all. You can visit the Wadi Naqab cave on the track itself. Nothing special but cool to have a short walk inside. Its not that deep. PART 3 - MODERATE WADI HIKE If you feel adventurous, the second part (in green) becomes moderately hard: 25.72103, 56.12474 https://goo.gl/maps/zGjHQFKWEroC5sdRA From here you will need to actually climb over big boulders and navigate your way through it. Not hard, but for a regular couch potato it becomes quite a bit of challenge perhaps We managed to go up to the purple pinpoint, and then decided to turn back as we met other people that told us to reach the end it was easily another 1 hour. 25.71943, 56.13054 https://goo.gl/maps/PkMpTkuFUxQEfe4f8 According to Google Maps, there is a pool further down called Wadi Koub (perhaps another 1,5hrs), we will aim for that the next time perhaps. That part is in red on the above map. Some precautions: - There is no cell phone signal in the mountains - Bring at least 1.5-2 liter of water per person - Wear long pants and hiking boots to avoid twisting your ankle. Ambulance is not nearby ! rak-wadi-naqab-pt2-moderate.gpx rak-wadi-naqab-pt1-easy.gpx rak-wadi-naqab-drive.gpx 10 1 5 "Go as far as you can see; once you get there, you'll be able to see further."
