2010 Infiniti QX56 review

If it’s a big SUV you’re after, then you can’t really do much bigger than the Infiniti QX56.

At over 5.25 metres long, over two metres wide and nearly as tall, the QX is essentially one massive great box on wheels. A pretty heavy box at that as the QX tips the scales at over 2500kg. Thankfully, the 315bhp 5.6-litre V8 is more than man enough to get the big SUV moving – if only the brakes were quite as effective at slowing it down afterwards.

As you can imagine for something so large, the Infiniti QX isn’t really a sporty SUV – it majors more on the Utility side of things. Naturally, there’s quite a bit of space on board with seating for seven people and plenty of room for their paraphernalia. Unlike the other SUVs in the Infiniti line-up, the QX is capable of handling itself on tricky terrain – after all, underneath that brash exterior lies a Nissan truck chassis. There’s even a low-range setting on the four-wheel drive selector dial. It doesn’t have any clever off-road terrain systems that you might find in a Land Rover though.

The QX is fitted with self-levelling air-suspension to ensure it maintains its ride height regardless of the load on board which also helps keep control of things in off-road situations. Parking sensors are standard fit which helps when trying to manoeuvre this big ship into a narrow parking spot.

An all-new Infiniti QX is scheduled to go on sale in the Middle East before the end of 2010, and will use the 2010 Nissan Patrol as its base.
