2010 Infiniti FX review

Even in the world of crossover SUVs, there really isn’t much out there on the road that’s as overtly aggressive as the Infiniti FX.

With piercing headlights – modelled on a bionic cheetah of all things, dark chrome grilles and deep-cut vents in the front arches this is a SUV you mess with at your peril.

And it’s even got enough bark to go with its visual bite. Two engines are offered – the 3.5-litre V6 as found in other Infiniti and Nissan products, and a 5.0-litre V8. It’s the bigger engine that suits to the character of the FX the best as it makes best use of all 390bhp on offer. The four-wheel drive system is set up for sporting driving characteristics and can adjust the power split between the front and rear wheels at any time on the move up to 100 percent to the rear wheels.

There’s loads of kit on offer too including some clever active safety technology such as Intelligent Brake Assist which will intervene and apply the brakes automatically if it senses that the FX is going to hit the car in front and the driver hasn’t reacted accordingly. There’s also an intelligent cruise control system, which amongst its many talents stops you from tailgating the car in front.

This SUV is really not destined to ever spend its time with gravel or rocks under its low-profile tyres. Nope, the motorway and sweeping roads out in the lesser populated parts of the Emirates are where the FX is much more at home.
