how will i know of my starter has gone bad

If my 2004 Deville is having a bad starter how will i know.

how do i check??

Car wont click on switch one and wont crank while starting and wont start the car.

Before doubting starter motor,doubt the starter motor relay in engine bay fuse box. Change that relay with anyother one in fuse box just for fun and see if it starts the car.
