Trip Report Before the sun had fully risen above the horizon, two convoys set off into the Sweihan dunes for our Rise & Shine adventure. Over the course of approximately 46 km and 2.5 hours, we enjoyed flowing terrain, technical sections, bowls, and countless beautiful sunrise views as the desert gradually came to life around us. A particular highlight was reaching and regrouping at Ghafftein Bowl, where both convoys successfully met up exactly as planned. Seeing the two groups come together in the middle of the desert was a great moment and proof that the plan worked perfectly. A special mention to @Noufal, who unfortunately had to leave us early. It was great to see you out in the desert again, and I hope everything is well on your side. To everyone who joined: you drove exceptionally well. The convoy flowed smoothly throughout the morning, with excellent discipline, communication, and teamwork. It was a pleasure to drive with you all. My thanks also go to @_luke_ for providing a rock-solid second lead, @Diego for keeping an attentive eye on the rear as sweep, and @Emanuel for expertly leading the second convoy with @Looper's support. Having two groups working together so seamlessly made the morning even more enjoyable. With over 1,500 m of cumulative climbing and descending through the dunes, plenty of bowl action, and a memorable sunrise over Sweihan, this was excellent. Most importantly for me it also marked the beginning of my journey leading drives at Expert level with Carnity. I couldn't have asked for a better group to share that milestone with. Little bit of trivia...between the two convoys there were 10 vehicles and over 1,000 combined Carnity drives worth of experience! If all goes well we will be exiting at Big Red. Some pointers for tomorrow: - Please try to arrive by 5.45AM so you have time to deflate and set up your flag. - We will be using Channel 10 on our radio: 446.231 Mhz. - If you have Highway Terrain Tires, you can deflate to 14psi. With AT (All Terrain) tires you can go a bit lower to 12psi without issues. Keep an eye on the tire pressure throughout the drive as it will creep up due to the hot weather. Thank you all for joining this morning! We had a pretty good run with hardly any stucks. The handful of small refusals were also easily dealt with thanks to the help of @Ishakand @Sam Selim! Fantastic second lead duties as well by @Sandeep Padhi! Drive Summary Report A 100% increase in attendance from last week, with double the number of cars joining us for another night of exploration. We got moving just after 20:00, heading southwest into the unknown and quickly finding ourselves in soft, warm and surprisingly tricky sand. I set the tone early by dropping into a pocket and needing a winch recovery to get free. Not long afterwards, I was stuck again, this time with Giacomo on winch duty and getting things moving once more. We stopped briefly for a quick water break, only to discover that Piotr’s sons remote control car battery had decided it was done for the evening. It was just a quick break, then back into the sand, where, SURPRISE, I somehow managed to get stuck yet again, with Asif and Giacomo coming to the rescue. Despite the recoveries, everyone drove extremely well in what were very soft, warm and demanding sand conditions. The convoy kept moving, people worked well together, and the difficult terrain was handled calmly throughout. We finished with a well-earned coffee stop, before tackling one final challenge: finding our way through the fence labyrinth and back out to civilisation. Exit was made on time, wrapping up another enjoyable evening of exploration, teamwork and just enough chaos to keep things interesting. It was great work @Lukas Wii - the biggest lesson, which comes from experience, is that staying calm, being patient and working at it for longer than you might imagine is key. I’m always super impressed with @Asif Hussain’s self-recoveries…looks like nothing is moving but slowly slowly the car pops free! @Piotr. Last night I tried out the Insta360 X6 for the first time. It has a specific mode suited to night shots and it seems to work great.5 points -

A bit of sharing of what the desert thought me today , the destination is important but how you get there is what counts . After 5 refusals I stoped counting ,instead, I kept going , each climb I failed kept me save, going down was just a reset point . Thank you @J-P Lfor guidance, thank you @Andrew John Melvill and @Frederic for this amazing drive , @JC_E and @Ishak for support and all drivers in the convoy it was nice to see you all. Big big thank to everyone for another fun day , lots of learnings and the desire to keep going!!!5 points

Drive report 1st thanks for being on time allowing us to get away shortly after 6am. We had a good start talking about and practicing climbs. Each car is a bit different when it comes to gearing and power sweet spots. Knowing yout car only comes with practice. From there we had a technical section before the dunes opened up again. Here we had more chances to practise climbs along with ridge riding, switches and how to get out of bowls! To @Sandeep Padhi, @Enrico - Mountain, @Ana, @Lazy Frog, @Rajath Shetty and @khurramm some really good driving from all especially as we pushed your limits on occasions. To @Frederic, @Ishak, @J-P L and @JC_E would never have been able to do this drive without you. Always a pleasure to drive with every one of you.

@ChrisW fantastic write up. Thank you sharing. I have fitted my compressor at the same location (jeep jk 2 door), small compartment in the trunck. The problem i got was overheating and I blow a fuse. Now I always use a small stick to keep it open, during the usage, so it has a better air circulation.

Thanks everyone, I really enjoyed today! It was quite a simple drive plan today, but we got our fill of climbs, bowls, loops, technical, ridges and switches. Special thanks to @J-P L and @Deepak Eswar for the support and @khurramm in 2nd lead. The big trucks of @Khalid Sharaf and @Jerome gave a good soundtrack to the drive especially while dominating Iftar Bowl. @Ana and @Shary drove briliantly especially during the deep bowl recovery. We kicked off beside the truck road with a quick briefing on the plan for the night. @Asif Hussain, @ChrisW and @Giacomo added a few extra pointers on how to enjoy — and stay safe on — a Fewbie-level night drive. The most important takeaway: “If you see something scary, just turn off your lights.” 😂 With that valuable safety advice firmly understood, we headed into the technical zone for a few loops to warm everyone up and get comfortable driving in the dark. From there we moved into some larger terrain. We had a couple of refusals along the way, but unfortunately for @Sebastian Nohse, Giacomo and Chris, nobody managed to get stuck badly enough for them to break out their winches. As the drive progressed, I felt we found a really nice flowing Fewbie pace for nighttime. Rather than attacking the bigger climbs, we worked our way gradually higher — taking small steps, reading the dunes and picking a route through without needing any huge commitments. It made for a smooth and enjoyable drive, with plenty of time on the ridges and a good rhythm through the convoy. After 150 minutes of driving, it was time for the Coffee Club part of the evening. We pulled up, got the chairs out and sat around the light, enjoying the sight of a deep red moon hanging low over the desert. And Sebastian raised the Coffee Club standards considerably by producing actual espresso in the middle of the desert. ☕ A definite treat and a pretty perfect way to finish the night. @Lukas Wii I hope you enjoyed your first night drive, and we see you in some more. @Piotr. nice work convincing him to join and experience the dark side of desert driving. After a few months away from the night drives, it felt really good to be back. My son also enjoyed every minute of this trip even if his favorite RC car gave up before we finished. auxbeam V-ULTRA series. get a mid sized pod for a pilalrs, 4 inch or so. Aim 40 degrees away from front on, no bonnet glare and wide beam of light. get a 5 or 6 inch spotlight for front, might require a shop to fab a bracket. for rear i would get a small 2 inch or so, its not driving light so a small one will be plenty. auxbeam gangpanel 6 switch controller which mounts in cabin. comes with quality vinyal stickers for switch labels etc and is one of the the better switch box systems available in my opinion (think i managed to convert @ChrisW to these as well). This will come in around budget. auxbeam makes some damn excellent stuff. price performance wise they are pretty amazing IMHO. for colour, i prefer amber, others prefer white. its really up to you. auxbeam do have the option of having amber coloured protection covers, so if you choose white you can switch to amber easily later.4 points

Qudra wouldn't normally be the venue for an IM level drive, however our goal will be to touch every ridge as quickly as we can! Drive Briefing. We will enter on the western side, driving along some sand track, before entering some dunes with a bit of vegetation. After picking our way through here we will enter the BLUE zone where we will spend most of our time playing around on the ridges, finding some sidies and maybe testing time short but tight technical dunes. Depending on the heat and the vibes, we will either push on and attempt some higher dunes before exiting at the east side of the camel racing circuit, or we will head due south and exit at the Tilal Resort.

Drive Summary. After a few months away, this was my first drive back after the crash — and it felt very good to be back behind the wheel and in the dunes again. The original plan was a nice, easy Fewbie night drive. Nothing too ambitious, just a chance to get back into the rhythm of desert driving. That plan lasted until we reached the long-range dunes, where we decided to turn things up a notch. From there, it was ridge riding non-stop. We found some fantastic long ridges and managed to keep the convoy moving with very few interruptions. As @Asif Hussain put it, we had “amazing flow — smooth as butter.” It was one of those drives where everything just seemed to come together. The night also delivered plenty of desert wildlife. Along the way we spotted mice, rabbits and several scorpions, adding a bit of nighttime wildlife watching between the ridges. By the end of the drive we'd covered around 40 km in 2 hours 30 minutes, which gives a pretty good indication of just how well the convoy was flowing. We finished with a relaxed 20-minute chat over iced lattes and popcorn — not a bad way to wrap up my first drive back. A drive that was supposed to be an easy return to the sand ended up being considerably more energetic than planned, but I wouldn't have wanted it any other way. Great ridges, great flow, great company — and very good to be back. Thanks @Asif Hussain and @Giacomo for the excellent drive, let's do it again soon!

Hi Frederic and everyone, looking forward to joining you! Ford Bronco Raptor, 2025. I confirm front and rear recovery points and all required equipment (radio, safety flag, tyre pressure gauge and deflator). My onboard inflator/compressor is still being installed, so for now I’ll simply reinflate at a petrol station after the drive. I have 15+ years of off-road experience outside the dunes, including UTVs, rock crawling, mud driving and expedition travel. Looking forward to gaining more experience in the dunes with you!3 points -
