  1. i second Harold My sportage's 2.0 lt turbocharged engine failed after 15000 km. We had to get it replaced. After that it was all downhill for the car and for us. You have got two people on this forum heavily coomplaining about the sportage and some people here think its highly unlikely!
  2. You are like one out of ten people to say that. The sportage was known for its performance and if i remember correctly the 2011 sportage had full ratings across the board on review websites in terms of performance.
  3. That is very sad to hear harold you must have had bad luck with the car. I have owned a sportage and it didn't do any harm to me at all. i know people who have driven other cars really dont like kias but sportage was an okay SUV.
  4. Hello, i have a 2011 kia sportage and i am not a satisfied customer for the kia people. I am desperately looking out to getting a good price to sell my car and move on to a good one. For the past year I have literally been feeding the car oil and keeping up with its maintenance. I know kias are not all that but the sportage was perceived to be a solid car. and its not like i have not taken car of the car, i have done what every user of a sportage does. i made regular service visits and ensured that i dont drive too harsh. Driving on the roads of UAE is not all that harmful for cars too. The biggest problem I have had with it is the fuel economy. I would like to take this platform as a chance to share my views on the car and communicate my dissatisfaction.
  5. The refrigerant/freon levels must be low, can be a leak... have that checked, or the ac compressor might be broken or not working properly if the belt on it is not secured enough. Just a couple of common problems from the top of my head.
  6. Salaam friends, I am noticing a huge difference in the AC cooling in my patriot and am worried that it might turn into a big problem. Dont know what is causing the problem. The air coming out of the AC is still cool but very lightly. What can be causing this? An idea of the problem would help me understand the dealership's opinion as well. Thanks everyone.
  7. Okay first of all ... thank you harmann secondly, everyone else who do not believe him ... you are wrong and he was right! it was that .. there was moisture under the gas cap and all i did was wipe it. Took my GC out for a drive and no light came up. amazing.
  8. Its surprising that the GC engine is sensitive to something like moisture under the gas cap .. which is why the check engine light comes up. If this ever happens to me ... the gas cap is the first thing im checking! easy peasy. i wonder about the people who wouldnt be able to figure it out and would take their jeeps to the dealership ... while all they gotta do is wipe a cap! lol
  9. Congrats on your new ride mate, enjoy. You can definitely get one stronger hitch from Ramy trading in deira opposite Arabian Automobiles showroom. They only sell good quality but expensive stuff in all upgrades and enhancements. If you want good but with affordable price tag search in deira car market on this GPS coordinates: 25° 16.554'N 55° 18.320'E. Hope you are aware of difference between tow hook and hitch and get the right and stronger one if you intend towing trailers. For offroa recovery purpose bolt-in tow hook is more than enough.
  10. Yupp seriously .. i wont be surprised if you try searching online for this problem and find the same answer. I did that once after i heard the story and i found a couple! its true ... and weird.
  11. God seriously? gas cap moisture .. and a check engine light up? haha what are these vehicles comin to!
  12. John, do you mind sharing any specific reason you think why it broke in first place???? Is it just bad quality or something unusual happened to hood or hood release lever?
  13. Thanks jhytinen, for posting and updating. Just came across this thread as i might be upgrading to 2013 model wrangler soon IA. Just checking your hi mileage, and curious to know where do you drive 30,000 kms in 4 months and how is the fuel mileage on hi speeds? As earlier wrangler's used to be very thirsty on 120-160 kmph speed.
  14. Okay ... here's the deal, re-check your engine just to be sure .. otherwise there might be a small thing you overlooked. A friend of mine had this kind of a problem once. There was nothing wrong and the check engine light seemed to be lit for no good reason. he struggled for days ... all he had to do was check his gas cap. lol moisture tends to build up under the gas cap and this causes the check engine light to come up for no reason. All you can do is dry it up with a clean cloth and securely put it back. Worked for him, hope it does for you too.
  15. i agree with you .. the problem is that i am able to fix minor things myself and if there was a problem with the engine/sensors/wires/battery it would have been obvious or at least i could have gotten a hint with any minor malfunction ... there is absolutely nothing wrong. :s
  16. Ummm... even if your vehicle got serviced, there might be a glitch remaining ... dont want to get professional advice? The thing is that for someone to help you out.. that person needs to see your jeep first. Cant say why the check engine light came up!!
  17. I was driving my GC this morning and after 10 mints of driving the check engine light came on which came to me as a surprise because my GC was serviced two days ago. The interesting part starts here ... it then turns off and after 5 mints it comes on again. my GC was playing with me like that for two more times and then it finally stayed on. I did some random checks around the engine when i got off but found nothing out of the ordinary. What can i be missing?
  18. Totally understand how you feel mate!! And believe it or not...even I don't understand what under-engineered means. I thought we lived in the industrial age - where it is probably easier to over-engineer stuff. Know what I mean?
  19. For all of you who do not already know, Kia has announced to recall more than a hundred thousand vehicles. A large number of their models is affected and Kia will further contact anyone with a Carens, Sedona, Sorento, Sportage or Optima manufactured between 2006 and 2011 that it feels may be affected by any of the identified issues. They say the problem is caused by carbonisation, amongst other factors. It is worth mentioning that Kia recalled over a million vehicles in the states alone earlier this year as well... our cars are no different.
  20. still bro .. whose fault exactly is that? mine? or kia's?? tbh i am kinda confused on what exactly the word 'under engineered' means.
  21. Blackman i am beginning to think along the same lines. just not too sure on how much exactly it would fetch me.
  22. Hey Rohitm, its an awesome suv and i will strongly recommend you to listen to your heart and not mind. Just make sure that you get the Jeep that has a full service history with dealer and still in warranty being 2 years old ride. In 2011 major issue faced is with TIPM (Totally Integrated Power Management) system failing causes car to stall, not starting and other weird behaviors. This TIPM issue is very well known to all owners, dealers and internet forums so feel free to discuss with owner and find out if this issue has been already fixed and replaced with new one from dealer (with or without warranty). There is also some ranting online for this to be added in TSB (recall) by Jeep Chrsler as a known issue that fails in new car, i am not sure how far this has been entertained by Jeep yet or not. Second most notorious (minor) part about JGC laredo is interior trim start falling off quite fast, so do a check and inspect the vehicle having interior trims (knobs, buttons, regulator etc) in place or not. Other then that, its a very good buy, go ahead.
  23. Hi Paul, I don't think you need to push your car beyond the said km interval for oil service. Better get the oil change done and rest visual and other inspecting item can wait for couple of days (no problem). I rather get my car oil change service done prior to few 100 kms than delaying it. However, every car manufacturer keep couple of 100 lets 500-600 kms threshold before car scream and damage can happen (if that answer your question). Changing oil at regular interval is required to keep your car engine running at healthy stage of life. The engine oil job is to lubricate all moving parts inside the engine and also provide the cooling from heavy friction inside the (non-combustion) chamber. The typical margin between moving engine part internally is few mm and this where the oil keeps rotating and filling the layer of oil between those fine mm gaps. Engine oil also has several key additives such as detergent that cleans the engine dust and pass it on the oil filter and oil filter locks down that dust (fine metal wearing). Failing to change engine oil or oil filter in time as per owners manual will soon result in plenty of sludge inside your car engine, that will make engine knocking noise in beginning, then clanking and then heavy thud then more thicker sludge will form. And finally it will break down the engine operation and car wont crank and start like before. My mechanic has actually witnessed a guy driving to him in brand new corolla not starting as owner put 18,000 km without any oil change out of ignorance, and wondering why brand new car is not starting. Up to 5%-10% threshold of delay in oil change is acceptable as per owners manual recommended oil change interval but not more.
  24. Thanks for sharing John, I like your writing style more than the information shared.
  25. Minor leak uh? is it tore from a certain place or do you think that the leak is from the door-frame surrounds? Any one of these things can cause a leak. if the damage is irreparable then you might need to replace the entire soft top. Not a difficult job but a little costly. Jayd great idea.. small holes can be fixed that way .. stickers hold on perfectly well for a limited period of time and need to be replaced as soon as theyre worn out .. dust and other things really affect the stickiness. Plus the rain season is coming up
