  1. And the same dealership would be the first one to refuse to carry out any repairs under warranty if something conked out due to offtoad use. I totally forgot the new Sheep has EAS but even in full height its not too great, better but not too great. but decent enough for newbie drives Im guessing People do this all the time with range rovers so see if its possible with the sheep too. They just reprogram the off road height to be a couple of inches higher than what came from factory pretty painless quick and cheap. I can reprogram the height of my Range Rover in any of the modes, access, normal or off road to be any height that I choose to be. Within reason ofcourse. Any place with a good diagnostic tool for a jeep should be able to do that in 10-15 minutes. But STILL I wouldn't take me new car off to the desert specially when I dont know what I doing. If you were a seasoned off roader I wouldn't be so skeptical.
  2. Been there done that, last year spent and entire day lying flat on an engine trying to undo one 10mm nut that was sandwhiched between the back side of the motor and the firewall , it was not visible so it had to be done by feel and could get only a quarter turn at a time, once spent an entire week trying to pull out an axel half shaft out from the front differential tube one side came out quitely without any issue but the other side was hung up on something, tried everything, heating, pullers, impact guns, jacks.Opened the diff cover so see if we could trying to massage it out from that side or a C clip we were not seeing Seemed like it was welded in their, we were even caught by the cops and taken to the police station because we were working so late at my buddys shop one day. Not a good sight with three greasy dudes looking very suspect at a police station. Eventually we all gave up and changed the entire front diff tube with a used one from the scrappies
  3. Wowza somebody got up on the wrong side of bed today, eh! Too much grandads cough medicine over Xmas perhaps? Anyways when you are trying to do things on a shoe string budget 250dhs and 40-45 day wait for stuff to arrive only to tell you what you already knew can throw a spanner in someone's schedule, specially if that is someone's only ride. It's throwing water out the exhaust, misfiring and coolant is disappearing after being fully overheated 9.5 times out of 10 is a blown HG. If the hat fits, wear it. P.S : You're not the only one who knows a thing or two about cars in this place. So don't think you are only one here with "informed" advice. Yeah so it will be appreciated if you think twice before wearing your superiority suit and labeling everyone else as a no nothing grease monkey Cheers and Merry Xmas
  4. The latter part, why would anyone want to watch cartoon porn? Yogi Bear getting it on with Miss Piggy ?
  5. Get out of still being back in the UK mode and finally get into I'm in Dubai now and shit is different here mode. I searched the entire country 7-8 months back looking for a sniff test and couldn't find one only expensive online kits because I also wanted to be 100% sure I hadn't blown a HG. I had even less symptoms of a blown head gasket, no loss of coolant, no misfire, no steamy exhaust, and you could drive for 15-20 minutes and wouldn't even know the HG was gone. Only when you popped the hood you saw the hose pipes bulging like anacondas who had just swallowed a T.Rex, the system was under extreme pressure and the gasket had popped and was pumping exhaust into the cooling system. Since I had no other symptoms I took a month or two to make sure it was head gasket issue and not something stupid like air trapped in the system or a faulty cap. Anyways from the looks of it I does seem to blown HG, other than the sniff test ( good luck with that ) you can take out the spark plus and shove a borescope or flash a strong flash light down a couple of cylinders if you can. If coolant is leaking into cylinder 4 it will be squeeky clean and shiny compared to adjacent cylinders because it is literally being steam cleaned every time you run the engine. Anyways you made a good pretty detailed symptom report, everything tells me you have a blown head gasket. You can faff around with buying pricey sniff kits or borescopes or just play it by ear.
  6. Yup never rent a car from these measly small rent a cars, too many bad stories to even start telling here.
  7. No such thing as a bad rental car. These are the only cars you can make your fantasies come true in. P.S : Currently driving a rental!
  8. That grill or any perceived lip is not coming out. It's one solid piece and surprisingly no one noticed that big lens in the lower grill. Probably the radar for the adaptive cruise control which means a lot of wiring behind that big single piece front bumper. Only way is to relocate it and hell lot of plastic trimming And even then wouldn't take it off road, because the stealers just need a reason to void your warranty or not do any work during improper use or so either bull crap. Go the other way of a 20k or under weekend warrior for off road duty. You will probably end up spending more on repairs, tow trucks and insurance claims in a year if you decide to hit the dunes with that.
  9. You will leave that bumper in the desert the first time you take it out, you are hardly clearly the kerb, let alone any dunes, Sorry to be the harbinger of bad news but unless you make expensive mods, that car is not going too far in the desert.
  10. An answer to a question no one ever asked ! lol
  11. Ok everybody knows I got no love for the EVs but this looks very interesting, these people have been quietly and anonymously working away for the last 7 years developing this thing, already bought a defunct Mitsubishi factory in the US and converted it for mass production and looks pretty capable off road and the SUV version is right up there with the swankiest Range Rover in terms of luxury, And unlike Fisker they seem to actuallu know how to mass produce car. And best of all, it doesn't cost an arm and a leg like he Tesla or other EVs of today. The price is around $60,000, the avg price of a truck or SUV nowadays. This video doesn't do it justice but youtube and google more Watch from 16.00 onwards for better shots of the Rivian
  12. Blown way out of proportion and some masala added by the media, there isn't that much uninterrupted desert left in Dubai and most of the UAE that you can have a scenario where you are lost for days and end up dead, specially in the Dubai side. Pick a direction, any direction and start walking and with in a few hours, a day at the most you will bump into someone or something. Or simply call for help on your cell phone, like the people in the story did. P.S : Barry is right, people are so reliant on GPS nowadays I swear they couldn't find the way to their bathroom from their bedroom, let alone navigate in the desert. To this day I get a little chuckle when people ask or share GPS tracks for the desert.
  13. Sorry mate, Dodge Rampage beats the Raider and it was an original creation not a wussy Jap rebadge, so more brownie points too And best of all they are bringing it back in 2019. The Dodge Ram Rampage https://www.autopromag.com/2017/02/2018-dodge-rampage-ram-price-launch-date-specs-usa.html
  14. I don't get the whole drift thing anyways, only drifting that actually I remotely enjoy watching is the actual Japanese drift comps. This whole ken block thing with highly polished hollywood level production quality highly edited videos done in a million takes doesn't do anything for me, its just joe public thinks these people are some driving gods that do these things in one go and one take.
  15. Something no one ever said or did the UAE. They just buy a bigger SUV
  16. Currently have a 1.5 Yaris rental !!!! But I already know I'm old!
  17. Search online for a wiring diagram for your car. Doubt anybody has one here
  18. First thing I was taught when learning to drive offroad. Clutch is only for moving from a stand still or changing gears. Once you are down with that, move your foot away from the pedal and rest it on the floor or somewhere. Because sometimes people like to rest their foot or part of the foot on the pedal but in off road situation going over bumps and i even terrain you might be unknowingly pressing the clutch as you get jostled around the car. So do not ever ride the pedal. There are very few things in my life that I am proud off. One of those things is Ive never burnt out a clutch but seen it happen many times though!
  19. Not as many people here in the UAE who are Judas priest, sepultura, prong, Panera fans as you would like to think. And not many willing to pay the heavy when pricey original merch converted to DHs form GBP plus shipping plus a little profit for band T Shirts. Personally I'm over the phase of wearing band T Shirts, what's the point of announcing your are into so and so music?
