  1. It's the mentality here. These are basically OEM bits in their own packaging. But people want to see the car name and logo on the packet. They will pay 120 for NGK plugs in a Toyota package but wont pay 25 for the same plugs in a NGK packet
  2. Nope, no where. That reminds me to look for my old Metallica and GnR Tshirts. Probably vintage now and worth something!
  3. Look up what oil is recommended in the owners manual. If you don't have one you can find one online. Also not 100% sure if it was this generation of Camry but these things had a manufacturing fault where yhe engine would burn a lot of oil. I'm talking something like a liter for every 1000 kms. There was a service advisory on this where Toyota would fill up your oil seal the cap tell you to drive 500 or 1000kms and then recheck the oil and if it was burning oil they would fix tue problem for free. So look up if your Camry falls within those years Oops. A liittle looking around and it seems your Camry falls in that category. I would keep my eyes on the oil level like an eagle
  4. Desertcart is basically an Amazon mirror site for local use. I've used Aramex Shop & Ship. There is a one time joining fee valid for life which is not too bad and give multiple US addresses and also addresses im Europe and Africa and Asia. You can have your items shipped to the S&S address and the Aramex will deliver it to you or you can pick it up from them yourself. Whatever is convenient to you. And your shipment is tracked like any other courier services The charges are pretty reasonable but I dont remember them from the top of my head so you can check out their website for more details.
  5. Throw enough money at anything and you can make just about anything. I remember a couple of Shababs who brought in their new Land Cruiser at a well know Toyota shop and said money is no object and they dont care what the shop does to the car, they just want to reach Dubai from Abu Dhabi in 30 mins. ( Yeah impossible-ish I know ) Unfortunately I never went back to see what they did, but I think were toying with the idea of strapping on a couple of turbos on it, or something along those lines. Then my old neighbour in Sharjah wanted to it hit 300kph in his 1996 Camaro, guy sent it to the states came back after a few months, sounded like the Kraken unleashed. The exhaust note was such you could feel all the way over in my house when it was just idling outside. I asked him did he manage to hit his mark. he said he reached 280kph but then chickened out and let go but said it felt it had a lot more power left and could cross 300.
  6. Yeah pretty much and they make such a big deal out of Tesla, probably uses more batteries than show in the parody too!
  7. I really do like the new Chevy's, haven't had the chance to drive one yet though. Personally I would get the Chevy on looks alone. The new patrol are ugly to say the least
  8. Literally, if Porsche can win a desert rally back in the day when they were only making sports coupes by throwing a ton of money at it. Even now, you see "mini coopers" takimg part in the Dakar
  9. In my opinion y'all need to chill out with all this grading business and getting all tight ass with it. I've seen many clubs go down the shiitter because of it. One prime example I remember was Abu Dhabi 4x4 and they took themselves way too seriously. The marshall would come out dressed like the power rangers. And no matter who you were and what your past experiences. You had to go through a series of trips before you were allowed on anything fun. First one was called a ANIT trip Absolute Newbie Something Trip. I used to make fun of it by calling it a neat trip lol. For a change I thought I'll join one of their trips only to find out I couldn't because I hadn't gone through their neat series of trips. Even though many other members knew me and my past from other clubs where I was Crew but no they were having none of it. I had to do the damn neat trips first. So I rightly told them to suck camel balls Point is not to take your selves too seriously. People go out on the weekend to have fun. If they want hierarchy and bureaucracy, they can go to the office on Friday too. Just to avoid a few people from getting butt hurt There are people who are Marshall material from day one and then there are others who could be driving for years but still can't drive for shit. Those kind of people you kindly refuse on the more challenging trips. Instead of all these diagrams, charts, designations, ranks, levels etc etc BS. If shitters still insist on coming and spoiling the fun for others, then warn them that top gear rules apply.
  10. P.S : You are way too over obsessed with power to weight ratio. Seems to be your later buzzword. That helps in street racing. All that power to weight ratio is pointless when you have shit ground clearance and approach and departure angles of a whale
  11. I think Ive mentioned this before Ive ridden this very car. Not a replica, not a similar one.The actual car in this video. And to top it all off. I had the keys to it for two days as I was the one looking after it. Didn't dare drive it on my own. It was flown over from a private collection of some rich dude in Europe. I did do the typical man child thing of when everyone went away. Got into it and did the vroom vroom thing. Yeah and Saleem is right, this was from the modifies category. Doors welded shut with a big tubular roll cage inside, everything stripped out. Now I probably couldn't even get into the thing. Hot and noisy as f@#k as the engine is right there behind you. Also got to hang out with Jacky Ickxs. The guy who drove it to the finish line. And you wish you could afford it. Regular examples of these are now worth way over a million dollars https://youtube.com/watch?v=GxBzTVoFHXQ
  12. Ok good to know your next ride will be a Porsche 959 because it is a bad ass offroader, after all it won the Dakar Rally
  13. P.S : Dakar Rally shouldn't be any real category for anything. A Porsche 949 won it in 86 I think, so are we to assume Porsche 949s are very capable offtoaders! If you want off road events. Then nothing like the Camel Trophy and everyone knows Almost stock Discoveries kicked ass in those. Fun fact, first year of the Camel Trophy was run with Jeeps and none made it. They literally fell into pieces. Crappy fact. Last year of the trophy was done by Hondas!
  14. I know two people myself who took their modern Range Rovers and came back so its all good in my book. They are pretty much as capable if not more in stock form. Do I need to post videos of the L405 ridge riding in Liwa and ripping MOAB again! But unless Im made of money I myself would take a Land Cruiser. Also because I love Range Rovers too much and can't bear to seem them get finger up and dirty! No scratch that if I was made of money I would certainly try it in a Range Rover right off the showroom floor. Just to see how far I can go. If anything happened I would just call my chopper tp come rescue me ans leave the car with the keys in it for the locals as a gift
  15. See not every ones idea of a overland African trip is doing the Cape to Cairo trans African highway A two to three week crossing of the bush, camping out in the open is enough for them. Or Even North African Desert crossings are also very popular, in Morocco, Algiers. specially with the French as it just a short ferry ride away and everyone there speaks French.. As you might know Africa is not all bush and jungle. And as for your snarky Range Rover comments, this guy did 200,000kms in the African bush in his V8 range rover
  16. And yes it wiser to split your 40 to 50 budget in to two separate rides but with something like a LR3 Prado and Land Cruiser there really is no need as they were made to perform these multiple tasks, smooth city cars and highway cruisers as well being able to play off road. Most of the trouble people get into off road is their own fault and/or lack of experience and/or poor maintenance of their vehicles. Ofcourse shit happens, and any car can breakdown on or offroad. Gaurav how many times your Land Cruiser broke down in the desert?. One from what I can remember, diff gave up the ghost and had to be towed, how many times did my discovery breakdown, once out of no fault of my own. I drove Land Cruisers on safari almost everyday for a decade and only twice in that many years did it breakdown. So if you stay on top of things and keep your wits about offroad. You can easily have your cake and eat it too
  17. Well you really don't have to go so far out in the bush or those overly used tracks I know two people who did an overland trip in Africa and both in Range Rovers. One a P38 and one a L322 both V8 petrols and they made it safely back here. I was actually thinking of buying the modified L322 when he wanted to sell it. It was very nicely done. Overlanding in Africa is a very popular trip nowadays and a lot of peeps from Europe are doing it on the regular in their 4x4s very few do it in their unimogs or trucks. Lookup up 4xoverland channel on YouTube. That guy has been overlanding in Africa since the early 80s and always in a 4x4. Yes I watched documentaries and even the last episode of The Grand Tour previous season where tracks are exactly how he explained them but apparently it's not always the case otherwise no one would be overlanding in Africa in 4x4s
  18. I agree with Gaurav on this one, get the biggest you can afford but do test drive both first and see of you really think the difference is worth it. I had a Supercharged L322 for a few days and really didn't feel too big a difference between the NA one and the supercharged one. Even after many 0-100 pedal to metal launches. Same with a Land Cruiser VXR 5.7 V8 and the 4.5 inline 6. The difference was even less noticeable. But usually the bigger motors are from the top spec line and all the extra goodies and bells and whistles more than make up for the difference. Nothing more shitty than dropping a big chunk of cash on a car only to see blanking plates and dummy buttons reminding you, you've bought the low spec model and you are missing quite a few things. Japanese and American manufacturers are notorious for doing this, thankfully the Europeans don't follow this route of cheapness.
  19. Damn I forgot that was even a thing here once! Money is a great motivator. Remember the car review thing. Once it went from winning cold hard cash to "exciting prizes" everyone did a snoop dog and dropped it like it's hot!
  20. I hear ya buddy. It's a pet peeve of mine too and bugs me to no end when people call their inline4 pots V4 !!!!!! Errtrrghhhh!!!!!! It's like nails over a blackboard to me. And worst part is you hear and read it everywhere. In used car advs, people discussing cars, forums, Facebook etc etc. I guess majority don't know the difference between a V, inline, W or even a boxer setup. Think V is something you just put in front of the number of cylinders a engine has. I think I even read V3 once, got me thinking that must ne one horribly unbalanced engine!
  21. There is a reason why its nicknamed the Nissan Petrol. And if you're worried about gas mileage you are looking at the wrong car to buy. Currently I have a rental 1.5 Yaris Ecotec while my Range Rover is taking a rest. See the tank go over Full with 80dhs of gas and then get 650 kms from that, is the kind of car you should be looking at. Put 80dhs in my Range Rover even before the light comes on and even then it doesn't reach the halfway mark and you get around 250kms from that. The Patrol is probably going to be even worse.
  22. Honestly, looks fine, something I would be interested to go have a look if I was in the market for a Prado myself. Take a flashlight and have a through look in the engine bay and under the entire car for any oil leaks. Check the transmission fluid. Should be somewhat pinkish and not smell burnt and brown. Engine oil should be at correct level. Check all the electronics. See if all windows go up and down. Side view mirrors works ac blows cold and ac fan works at all speeds. Car should drive smooth and transmission should shift smooth through all gears, no clunks and thuds no vibrations. Try to get up to highway speeds and see of it still drives smooth no excessive wind noise, no vibrations and rattles. Shift it into low range and see it actually engages. Think these are fulltime 4x4 so lock the center diff, button with four wheels with a X in the center and if you can find a patch of sand to test. Go full lock circles slowly on tarmac and wheels should squeal and bind indicating its working. Oh yeah check engine oil levels should be between minimum and maximum, ask them before you check the oil when was it last changed. If it was recently and its on the lower side or low, means car is burning excessive oil.
