  1. There is a YouTube channel called Project Farm where this guy tests out all these products and more on a petrol lawnmower motor, opens up the heads and cylinders, does compression tests before and after testing these products so you can make up your mind on what does and does not work. There was also a similar test done on Fifth Gear using a VW Corando to see if it is possible to bring back lost horse power by dyno testing before amd after every step the biggest difference in horse power came after using Red X ( unfortunately you dont get that here ) but overall the theme with most if these products is to see any real results you have to use them regularly for a durationof time and a one time use will not really make much difference.
  2. You are too new or too naive or both to understand the subtleties and nuances of this place and how it ticks. Most of these towns and villages are out in remote areas and in most cases were given better and bigger housing at better locations with more and better facilities at govts cost. There are almost no abandoned buildings or villas in the cities. The Dubai govt will actually take back plots given if they see someone is just hoarding them and not actually making use of it after a period of two years and give them to someone else instead.
  3. Many reasons from disputes to the desert encroaching. Hamra there was a dispute and entire village was resettled in Abu Dhabi
  4. Slight correction the MAF does not control the flow of air, it just measures how much air is being sucked in. The throttle body butterfly valve which is linked directly to the gas pedal mechanically via a cable and nowadays electronically in most modern cars is what controls the flow of air and then the IAC takes over this duty when your foot is off the pedal
  5. Thank God for that, you never can be too sure though as Ive seen dumber things than that. Like a buddy taking his range rover all over the place because because it seem to have lost power and after a year of doing this and spending good amount of money. He resigned to the idea and just kept driving it as is. I had driven it many times too and it was low on powrt. Then one day I had a look under the hood and there it was bright as day right in front of the engine. The cam position senor on the left bank wire was totally cut and just lying there. I had an entire donor car sitting in my parking at the time so I just took one out from there and fitted that one and plugged it back in and car was back in action and still is to this day.
  6. Seems like you have bigger problems than that, the thing you say isn't connected to anything is actually your MAF sensor as you can clearly see there is a big plug missing which should be connected to your MAF. So right about now your ECU is running a default fuel map which is usually limp home map since it is not getting input from the MAF. How long has it been like this?
  7. If anyone wants to visit I literally stay a stone throw away from probably the biggest and most intact ghost town there is in this country.
  8. Not your fault basically almost all mechanics are like this, scarred for life from working on broken vehicles, since they ever see only broken vehicles they hate them
  9. Man has been badly burned by a jeep and fallen into the usual myth/trap that new car = less issues. I domt think anything other than practical experience will change his mind
  10. You have a point in that most people also don't want to pay and expect everything to be done for peanuts but the flip side of the coin is barely literally mechanics buy something like a Launch and say they can do everything and anything. So its a vicious circle And don't be such a snowflake and take everything so personally, I was talking about mechanics in general and wasn't pointing any fingers, specially at you.
  11. The mans mind is made up, he is determined to get a shitty car, so don't even try. But I don't blame him crappy jeep ownership will do that to a person
  12. This was just one of the many fixes I was able to make, its not luck I spend a good deal of time studying and researching my cars. Internet is a wonderful thing. Another one incident I can mention dunno if I have on this forum already is one of my prodest moments in DIY fixes, mainly because everyone said it was not possible including the internet. Basically a good friend of mine who wasnt well off had the chance to buy a single owner well kept local house use only 1998 Range Rover for cheap so he went for it, with in a week it rained heavily and he parked by mistake next to a roof gutter with his passenger side window open. By morning car was flooded as the gutter dumpep all the rainwater exactly in to the car over night. Next day car was dead as BeCM is under the passenger seat. And it was swimming in water. Dried it out nothing. Everyone said now you need new BeCM ECU Ignitiom and door locks which was not an option first he couldnt afford it and second this repair was worth more than the car. car was totally dead put in the key and nothing would happen only airbag light would come on. Poor guy almost went into depression. So I tool it upon myself to see if I could be of any help. Looked up and down even on the internet same result need to change everything. So I decided to open up the BeCM and found to PCBs one looked like a power supply and was all burnt out and the other looked like the one with all the codes and programming and that looked fine. So I took a chance and got another BCM from the scrap for only 400. Direct swap obviously didnt work but was worth a try, so then I took out the what looked like the power PCB to me from the donor and plugged it into the original. Put it back into the car and viola car came back to life, just the smile of my buds face was worth the hassle. Ive got a couple of other such stories too, point is most mechanics here have 0 problem diagnostic skills apart from the most basic and common issues and just keep throwing Parts at the problem hoping to get lucky. To be honest I am very happy with this status quo, because it gives good expensive cars a bad reputation and their prices down which in turn make them affordable to people like me
  13. Well then yeah you are pretty much stuck with shitty cars unless you open up your wallet a little more. Just out of curiosity what is your max budget so people can chime in with better options
  14. I love stories like this, one of my best friends is a mechanic and has been for 20 plus years now and Ive spent 100s of hours exchanging stories like these with him over the past 20 plus years. And your story just confirms what me and sertac just said, mechanics here just love Jap crap cars because quick in and out no real diagnostic equipment or knowledge required translates to quick money. Let me tell you a story also. Soon after I bought my L322 Range Rover, developed exactly the same problem, key would not turn to start, and was also told I need an entire new steering column new security ecus, ignition and door locks along with new key, and as usual I told them to EDITED. Upon investigation the steering lock actuator had broken and wasn't giving the ecu the car is safe to drive signal and thus the key lock wasn't retracting. I then ripped out the entire key cylinder dismantled it and took out the lock at put it back in now the key would turn car but still wouldn't start, so found out it could be the block with metal contacts below the barrel that can also go wrong. Scrappies wanted 1200 for it and I said EDITED. Further investigation ensued and found out its the same part used in all bmws from mid 90s to early 2000s so went to an afghani in shaj who has tons of right hand halfcuts got the part for 50 dhs but the connector shape was a mirror of mines but pins were same, so 10 mins of filing the plastic down and put ir back and now car runs perfectly. Now if I would have gone to majority of grease monkeys over here that call them selves mechanics my car would probably be standing exactly like your buddys Audi and I would have spent a few thousands also. And this is one of the many many times Ive been told by mechanics that my unrealiable luxury european import will require a truck load of money to fix only for me to have fixed it for virtually nothing or very little. So dont blame the car, if the mechanic doesnt know how to fix it!
  15. That myth was busted long ago, newer Jap cars are just as much tricked out with crappy electrickery as anyone else and go wrong just as much, parts are no cheaper specially Honda and Mitsu they were never cheap to begin with.
  16. All new nissans are very prone to CVT transmissions failure they start going around the 100-150k kms mark As a rule of thumb I would stay away from anything with a CVT transmission regardless of make. For the same money try something like an older Land Cruiser. This way you can have a reliable daily driver as well as a big somewhat comfortable weekend desert warrior too. P.S : Please dont punish yourself with a Lancer.
  17. It should be still in warranty Im guessing, if so take it back to the stealers

  19. Not to factor in prices of these jap craps when new. Corolla is starting at 70k and Camry at 90k!!!! Who in their right bloody mind pay those prices for those POS's Even if I had 10 times more money than Bill Gates I would never buy a corolla for 70k!!!
