It's a very good question and very well put, writing a lot of people similar confusion in words. I have advised plenty of my colleague on this exact issue. To start with, I have been driving for last 15 years in Dubai and 10 years in offroad. Best advice is to keep the separate car for offroad for the endless reasons, (too long to list here). However, if as a beginner you still wish to have one ride fits all need, then you can choose any American, UK or Japanese cars (plenty choices), but when you consider 5-10 years of age used car then the only choice you have is Japanese folks per below list of order: Prado (AWESOME) Xterra (AMAZING) Pajero (3.8 - Good, 3.5 - OK, 3.0 - NO) Pathfinder - (Post 2006 shape - NOOOOOO) The only American ride after 5 years of age can still ride good in sand is Jeep Wrangler or may be cherokee (not grand cherokee). These cherokee and Grand were awesome prior to 2004 shape, but hard to get one clean now, which has not been abused already. Ford explorer - NO Ford explorer - sport trac truck - Yes (with 2 inch lift) F-150 trucks - Yes, but expensive in maintenance Overall Japanese are more reliable and maintenance friendly that's why people choose them as a first choice especially in offroad.

That's a new stuff, I heard today: battery conditioner. How does it look like barry? and how to install by DIY? and where to hide the solar panel so that no one steals it? and what to do in underground or shaded parking like mine? I usually keep it on and then jump start if it doesn't crank, at least it will power up all security module needed for long standing in my absence.

I have no idea on pricing, but be very careful if you still buy and offroad.

Knowing your liking and owning of CRV, I would highly advise the RAV4, it's a Toyota piece of gold, that holds the best resale among the whole lineup of Toyota and damn reliable and proven.

Considering the age and mileage its not wise to spend money on this model, as its parts are expensive and no matter how cheap you are buying you will spend VERY GOOD fortune on spare parts in less than a year with this high mileage. Answering your specific questions: It's just ok in the desert, nothing wow or even good. If it's SWB 3.0 then its good. LWB 3.0 is barely enough for sand, but wadi drive should be fine. Basically, it's underpowered for real offroad use. Not really, except bumper scoop. With 3.0 LWB, you wont be able to climb so high to scoop tbh, but yes there are easy ways to fix this scoop issue in less than 300-400 dhs. Not worth spending money on this, as you won't keep this car for long - for sure. Just learn and move on (at max).
