it can be that the ac needs some cleaning. Or the AC filter is torn and that is coming out of the AC vent.

Whole console below the ashtray need to be opened and see if the teeth in that push button mechanism is stuck or gone bad that is making it stuck. Its a little big job and need to be done by professional who know how to open the console base and identify.

I guess its been disabled for a reason due to safety. As you shouldnt be watching video or DVD while driving as driver's attention is needed on road and any little distraction can cause big hazard to you and many other motorists on the road. If you are keen for your rear passenger seat people then i suggest get the headrest LCD and plug in same in dash as AUX video for rear passenger and it should work.
