  4. PREPARATION FOR THE DRIVE AND WHAT TO EXPECT 1) Please ensure that you reach the meeting point on time, i.e., 5:00 AM sharp. If you are late, you would be left behind. 2) Convoy numbering would be posted after 6 pm today. 3) Please spend 15 minutes to go through the Absolute Newbie briefing Video. This would help you prepare for your offroad trip. 4) Once you reach the meeting point, please turn on your radios. We will be using Carnity Channel 2 tomorrow. (446.03125 Mhz). The instructions to program the radio are provided in the below post 5) All traction controls, ABS and Air bags need to be switched off. If it requires pulling the fuse, please do the needful. Incase of any queries you can always ask the senior members. 6)Deflate to 15 psi. Incase if you have any difficulties you can approach the senior members who would assist you. 7) Feel free to ask questions on the radio or announce if you have a problem. We shall be starting the drive close to 2nd December Cafeteria, and enter the desert through some nice easy tracks and dunes so that you can get familiar with your vehicle. As the convoy's confidence increases I shall be gradually increasing the level of the drive keeping in mind everyone's comfort level. We will be driving for about 3 hours, practice driving in sand, proper steering control, crossing some dunes, and getting you and your vehicle accustomed to off-roading in general. By 08:30 we will be heading out, where you can inflate the tyres with your compressor. As we would not be exiting close to a gas station, please ensure that you have your own compressor. See you on the sand tomorrow.
  5. But the Car Forum Feed has nothing to do with the offroad club. There are problems that people are facing that they hope to get a solution. Same like a person facing a problem while driving a car on the road. Just because he/she drives a 4x4 doesn't mean they can't ask a question
  6. TRIP REPORT An almost perfect drive, that's what it was. I had reached the meeting point at 4:35 AM. Was pleasantly surprised to see that already few cars had reached by then, with all the remaining cars arriving at the meeting point before 5:00 AM. A reminder to everyone that as our Club is growing rapidly we are having multiple drives in same areas. So it's important to arrive at the exact meeting point mentioned on the drive thread. I got to know after the drive that @VipinShetty despite being on time was at the wrong meeting point with the other convoy. After completing the Newbie Briefing we entered the desert. @Biju Abdul who was recently promoted to Fewbie was my second lead and he maintained the perfect distance from me to reroute as and when needed. @Enoch Mbatiah and @Ammar Naji were immediately behind the second lead and though they had some initial refusals and stucks in the soft sands you could see their confidence and control growing as the drive went along. Also I was happy to see Enoch self recover himself by some quick steering movements and get himself out of a soft patch. Well done guys. After getting through the initial patch of dunes we headed towards the long range dunes were there was plenty of opportunity for side slopping. Such was the convoy response that I guess we had practically done a side slope on every possible dune from both sides. @Tero Vallas was in his Prado and he was gliding through the dunes and the highlight moment was when crawled himself out from a churned up area. The Wrangler boys @h1fny @Neale Faulkner @Edgar @miguel @Hennie Schoeman all did exceeding well and it seemed they have had lots of fun at the back of the convoy. @Mukundan Nair didn't hear much from you on the radio and that for me is a good sign that all was well. It was good to see @topgear and his overly enthusiastic son again. You are a good learner and it's nice to see that you are putting the instructions given by Vanessa to practice. Congratulations to @Chaitanya D for successfully recovering the stuck cars in his first attempt. Appreciate the support towards the drive. A big shout out to @Vanessa8580 for keeping an eagle's eye on the entire convoy and giving the guidance to the drivers as and when needed. Bravo. See you guys next weekend on the sand.

  13. TRIP REPORT Faqa is an amazing terrain for Intermediate drives as it offers some nice tall and long dunes that are well spread out. And when you have an eager bunch of Intermediates (and above) you know that its going to be a fun day. Except for @Najeeb Mohammed who overslept (and I appreciate you informing us as well so as to not wait) and @Rinelle Sanaani everyone made it well on time. As we are getting into the second half of the year, the sunrise is getting delayed and that gave us a bit of headsup to enter the desert on some flat tracks under the offroad lights. @Vanessa8580 was my second lead and from the expression on her face she really enjoyed being up the convoy for a change. @Ale Vallecchi was my sweep with @Febin Frederic, @Tbone @Colin Jordan and @Mels Wolf formed the remaining of the convoy. We started in some areas that had a bit of technical dunes which tested the entire convoy resulting in multiple refusals. However, we were quickly able to find our way into the depths of Faqa. And from here the drive became extremely smooth with lots of side slopping, criss crossing and ridge riding. So smooth, that we covered about 71 kms in about a 3.5 hour drive (including stops). That showed the strength of the convoy. @Vanessa8580 did a splendid job in second lead by keeping the right amount gap and pace, with rerouting where required. Its always good to have you on my convoy. @Febin Frederic well driven today considering it was only your second Intermediate drive. Keep practicing your steering control and approach towards the dune for a more smoother criss crossing. @Tbone well driven today. You are a good learner as you listened to the instructions and did exactly the same. @Colin Jordan who brought his Ram and had all the power at his feet. One press of the pedal and off he went leaving @Mels Wolf to reroute to avoid the ditch created by the Ram's wheel. With the Ram, all the dunes were made quite easy and it was good fun seeing the truck ridge riding and crisscrossing on the dunes. @Mels Wolf didnt break a sweat in his 3.5 Pajero. The most underpowered car in the convoy but at no point do you realize that, as you are in completely sync with your ride. This automatically shows with how you builds the momentum and approach the dune in the right manner. And finally a big thanks to @Ale Vallecchi for supporting this drive. For me my mission was that I dont overexert you before your evening drive. And for that, we need to thank the entire convoy for being so fantastic that you were able to relax and coast at the back of the convoy. Thank you everyone for a fun morning. See you next time. .
