  1. Well managed drive Ale, had a bit of challenges, but you handled it very well, right from the posting the drive till the end of the drive. And want to congratulate you on some very good pre-planning, keeping in mind the Abu Dhabi restrictions, and relocating the meeting point before the start of the drive. Though we encountered some technical dunes at the start, you lead us to some very nice roller coaster dunes that this area offers. With the sand getting soft we did have our share of stucks and refusals which is perfectly fine at a peak summer Fewbie level drive. And thank you for letting me lead that small portion of the night drive. Enjoyed it.
  2. Hi Shiju, if you intend to continue offroading at Fewbie and above level with your Pajero, you might want to trim the front bumper lower lip and get a stronger bash plate than stock as a start. Then as the next stage get a small 2 inch lift installed which will give you a very nice ride to comfortably push it through most places. Having said the above, the learning what you get in driving a stock Pajero is invaluable. Offroading is about knowing the strength and weakness of your vehicle and working around it.
  3. @siddharth maheshwari the good thing is that everyone's safe and that there was no injury. Hope your car is fixed quickly as well. Thanks for updating. Take care
  4. Please configure all the 5 Carnity channels on your radio before the drive Incase the trip lead requires to change the frequency. This is Mandatory
  5. Extra lights are not mandatory as long as you are following the car in front of you. It's mainly for the lead who has to define the route.
  6. Though a Light bar is advantageous, as long as you are following the car in front of you, your headlights are good enough for a night drive. Light bars are more useful for leads who need to define the route through the desert.
  7. TRIP REPORT With the weather getting hotter by the day, a morning person like me has also started preferring the late afternoon/evening drives. All the drivers reached the deflation point ahead of time, which is very much appreciated both by drivers as well as by our vehicles as it limits the idle time in this heat. While I was deflating @RohanH mentioned to me that on his dashboard the 4x4 system orange light was blinking. From past experience of owning a Pajero, it was suspected to be a solenoid or vacuum leak issue. Sadly, knowing that his 4x4 would not serve him properly we had to ask him to exit. With the rest of the convoy ready to move we did a customary radio check, and for a second week in a row @Roshan Abraham had issues with his radio. This time (unlike last week) everyone in the convoy could hear him except for the trip lead Shamil. Upon suggestions that we change to another channel, it was found that his radio was not properly programmed to all the Carnity frequencies. I wish to reiterative to all Carnity members to ensure that you program all the 5 frequencies on your radio so that we can change the channel incase if we have any issues or disturbances. This is not optional but a mandatory requirement. After sorting it out with a spare radio, Shamil started moving with Roshan has his second lead, @Desert Dweller in center forward and with me in Sweep position. Initially we encountered some technical dunes, from which Shamil rerouted towards the more broad dunes that this area has to offer. Within no time we reached the base of Pink Rocks and we were all taking multiple turn going up. As this area is less visited in these months the cross tracks and bumps are very limited giving all of us an opportunity to properly test our vehicle's hill climb capabilities. With the sun starting to set, we moved towards Big Red. This stretch offer some amazing rolling dunes and Shamil set the right pace throughout this area. There was plenty of ridge riding and criss crossing that challenged all the fewbies without going over the limit. And with the limited refusals we were able to go upto Big Red and return back to Pink Rocks. And for all the limited refusals we had, I could hear @Desert Dweller's prompt guidance on the radio, helping everyone . Its wonderful to see the confidence that she has gained and the way she is actively participating on the drives. With sunset, we had a brief portion of night drive on the back side of Pink Rock. Unfortunately, @Kalahari stepped on some barbed fences that ripped through his tyre sidewall. With the help of Roshan and Shamil we were able to replace the tyre in good time. Another important lesson for everyone is to ensure that you have a working spare tyre, as in earlier drives I have noticed few members not sure about their spare tyre condition or having different sized spare tyres. Offroading does stress the tyres and it can cause failure at any point of time. So a proper working spare tyre is absolutely essential. As it had crossed 8 pm, we quickly exited out on to the road which brought to an end a wonderful evening that was well planned and executed by Shamil. I am sure everyone more than enjoyed your first lead. Well done buddy and I was very happy to be a part of your drive. Also, well done to all the drive participants for keeping up the pace to make it so enjoyable. See you next week.
  8. @Febin Frederic, @Mahmoud Hamzawy @Jeffrey Osito Pilgreen please click "Totally Agree" on the main drive post thread by today as we need a formal acknowledgement from your side that you understand the regulations under which the drive will be conducted. This is for your safety and those who would be driving with you. If "Totally Agree" click is not done by today, the trip lead has the right to not consider your name while making the convoy numbering tomorrow and also offer the space to someone else.
  9. I feel 10 mm is an overkill. @Emmanuel and @Asif Hussain what have you guys put?
  10. I feel it's not just the power, but other factors like gear ratios that also matter. All the power in the world but a messed up gearing doesn't help in long hill climbs. A straight 6 engine giving only 190 hp but having the right gear ratio can also do the Iftar bowl climb from the center. See the video. VID-20200615-WA0037.mp4
  11. That's because they drive in turns. Maybe we should start doing it? 🤔
  12. Normally no, but these days my son is with me on every drive. So the AC is running all the time. Ofcourse I don't do long hill climbs with the AC on.
  13. A gift for getting promoted to Advance. But then you won't be able to drive together...hmm... difficult choice
  14. Congrats Brette, finally you have tamed the Black Stallion. Something which was long overdue. Truly happy for you buddy.
  15. Congrats Richard, it's been an absolute joy and pleasure to drive in your company and to read your trip reports. Your sense of humor and patience is truly amazing. What impressed me the most is, in the Leaders Lead at Faqa your sense of calmness to assess the situation and recover the car in the right manner despite Gaurav trying to coerce you to do otherwise. Look forward to being the support man on your upcoming drives.
  16. Congrats Marjan, you and Richard are truly an inspiration and motivation to all of us in your calm and thoughtful nature. Hope to see you very soon as the first lady Marshal of Carnity.
  17. As Rahim bhai said, its a proud moment that we have women who are now leading our drives. While we pride ourselves in being a multicultural group we can now also proudly say that we have women who are leading our convoys, and very soon we will have women Marshals as well.
