  1. I totally agree with both @Technician and @treks , this technology is still in its evolutionary stage and cannot be trusted at all. The real problem is when companies draft marketing messages that are suggestive of a perfect and fully developed system. @Danny rightly called it a marketing gimmick and that what it is right now ... a "Gimmik". Period.
  2. i don't really like to copy and paste stuff, but sometimes there is no simpler way: "Briefly, there are two types of "synthetic" oils on the market. Group IV oils consist of molecules that are synthesized from simpler chemical compounds. This lets the chemical engineers "tune" the characteristics of a lubricant to exact specifications. These oils flow more freely at extreme low temperatures and don't break down at very high temperatures. As a side benefit, they generally can be specified one or two grades lighter than a mineral oil, which consumes less energy as friction inside the engine and saves fuel." For more please read here: http://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/how-to/a2316/4232672/ If you still want to read more then go through this PDF: Oils produced by synthesis (chemical reaction) rather than by extraction or refinement. Many (but not all) synthetic oils offer immense advantages in terms of high temperature stability and low temperature fluidity, but are more costly than mineral oils. Major advantage of all synthetic oils is their chemical uniformity. 70% of synthetics contain Polyalphaolefin. [note: Polyalphaolefin is a chemical ] Synthetic Oil is entirely produced by a chemical process. Like H20 is a chemical compound, normally know as water and NaCl is a chemical compound commonly know as Table Salt or simply salt. We have a chemical compound which we call Synthetic Oil. Produced and fine Tuned by Chemical Engineers. For more read this link's content: http://www.rsareliability.com/Report on Synthetic Oil.pdf The comments that i leave here are not for winning an argument (take it or leave it), you could have more knowledge than me on a subject or vice versa. I come here to learn and not to fight. Hope that the above mentioned helps answer a few questions and concerns. Peace out buddy.
  3. Thanks for asking @jimmy. Here's your answer. Stick chemicals: Each company calls them with their own brand name. But if you have seen the caltex petrol ad, they add a chemical to their petrol which is called "techron". This chemical cleans the engine by removing the carbon deposit. Similarly, there are chemicals which reduces the affinity of oil and internal engine and helps it stick to the internal walls of the engine body as well as reduces the ability of particular to stick to the internal walls of the engine. You can see the tech sheet of any renound brand and you will find the information there. Factors affecting oil's age: Oil loses its ability to lubricate as it is consistently exposed to extremely temperatures. This causes oil to lose its color and texture and stickiness. These are the things which a mechanic tries to judge by putting a drop of oil between the tips of his finger and feel the oil texture, and lubrication. Hope that this helps. Let me no if there is anything unclear.
  4. thanks for share such good info @robert . here is a good image explaining different ratings of Engine Oil for regular and synthetic oils.
  5. Hi Jimmy, thats a great question to ask here's your reply: viscosity of the Oil: Regular Oil oil is more thick than the Synthetic Oil, so yes that is true what the mechanic said. But what he is implying is totally wrong. SO has special added chemicals which make is stick to the internal walls of the body and provide better lubrication. Enhanced engine cleaning and long term protection: Synthetic Oil's stick chemicals are better are capturing the engine particles and when the oil passes through the oil filter these particulars are collected in the filter. with Regular Oil these particles will find easy to hide place and start depositing their cause even greater damage to the body of the engine as the engine gets old. Built for the cold weather: in winter, Regular Oil at the bottom of your car's engine will take a long time to heat up and become thin enough to flow through out the engine body. Synthetic Oil on the other hand is designed to be thin and can get to every engine part much quicker than Regular Oil. More heat absorption: Regular Oil with age does absorb enough heat and it being thick makes it hold on to the heat much longer. on the other hand Synthetic Oil is thin and it can absorb and releases heat quickly and this is why the SO has a longer life than any Regular Oil. Oil flow resistance: thicker oil like Regular Oil needs more force to flow through the tightly packed engine body. This is why the marker of Synthetic Oil make the Synthetic Oil thin so that it can flow easily with out any or very little resistance. Better Fuel Saving: thick oil needs more force to flow which cause a burden on the engine and hence increase the engine load and requires more fuel. whereas, Synthetic Oil are built thin and they can actually help you get at most 7% to 10% fuel saving. Synthetic Oil the champ of Turbo engine: If you have a Turbo engine then you would know that the turbo itself gets extremely hot. Synthetic Oil is design to withstand this temperature. Regular Oil simply cannot handle this much heat and will last far less than Synthetic Oil. Why do mechanics recommend certain brand or type of Oil: they work on commission basis and they probably have 2 or 3 type of brands in-house. for each they have a sales target. if you buy from them then simply make more money on their recommended brands. Hope that this helps
  6. Well, Well, Well ... in case any Pokemon fan is wondering that how much you have to walk to catch'em all.. its 153 km ... http://www.gamesradar.com/someones-caught-them-all-in-pokmon-go-and-walked-153km-to-do-it/ Caught : 142 Seen : 142 Now the player can Rest In Peace
  7. unless of course they discover this site: http://www.theverge.com/2016/7/20/12234636/pokemon-go-dating-service and then start to breed ... then we will have some serious mess at our hands ...
  8. well from here onwards we have 2 options: 1. Wait for the UAE government to take action - they are very vigilent and will hopfully have this sorted quickly or 2. And here i agree with @Technician Let the natural selection take its course. as long as they are playing pokemon Go, they are not breeding, let's just let mother nature handle this
  9. i completely agree, there has to be a punishment for Pokemon Go player on the street and those driving and playing the game. in NYC a driver hit a tree on the sidewalk with his car while driving and playing the game. don't get me wrong, i love this game but one has to act responsibly. Just yesterday, a man in US opened fire on 2 teenagers in his backward think that they were burglars... those idiots were trying to catch a water pokemon in his swimming pool.
  10. there are so many ways a spark plug cannot be one-size fits all. let get oblious out of the way first, spark plugs for petrol and diesel are different with fuel types, certain cars / SUVs need a large spark to ignite the entire mixture present in the cylinder What does a strong spark do? a strong and timely spark will increase the efficiency of the engine by burning the complete mixture thus help in increasing the pickup or acceleration of the car increase the overall top speed of the car (at high RPM there is a lot of fuel to ignite in the cylinder, a weak plug will not ensure complete burning of the fuel mixture) ensures fuel economy as less fuel is required to reach the desired speed. Spark plug "tip" a titanium based spark plug tip will ensure that there is less erosion and the spark stays strong regular plugs tips get carbon deposits and the erosion starts to weaken the spark strength The Spark Itself an electric spark is not the best thing there is, its the stock tech which you get from the manufacturer upgrading to a Laser plug will increase the fuel economy, acceleration and top speed of your car as the ignition provided by laser is far superior than an electric spark Spark plugs are all about how quickly and strongly can they ignite the fuel mixture at variable RPMs! Hope this helps.
  11. thank you guys, My aim was not to win an argument or to make anyone feel bad. If anyone was offended by the tone of my message then i would like to apologize for it. I only want to help spread the word that Oil is destroying our environment and we as responsible citizens of planet earth should force corporation to invest in new technologies that are cleaner and greener. I believe that we should thank all those who work in oil companies for their services for if it was wasn't for them, so many things would not have been possible. Let's now explore new avenues in energy like solar, polymer batteries, wind, etc. and leave a good legacy for the next generation.
  12. Ah! this is getting interesting now since we decide to walk down the "how we get stuff" road. Let's look at what happens when we try to get oil ... That one is from BP. this one is from a very respectable oil company that help build schools with the money they save by using poor equipment and low maintenance cost. the great wall of Oil in ocean a dumb turtle that can't handle a little oil at sea. dumb bird that can't afford a little shampoo An Oil company worker painting art on Earth. trying to use oil to grow green farms ... what a sight for the eco-lovers a loving couple of seals giving each other an oil massage DEAD tired from an oil bath. i think it would have hurt less if we had fried them instead a beautiful sight of 4th of July fire-works at sea. Shell company provided black water to nigeria to use against fire. So in a war of mining against the damage to Earth. I think Oil wins first, second and third position. First for Air pollution Second for Water / sea pollution Third for land pollution Have said all that, ... i do agree with you to an extent, the transfer to electric car is not 100% flawless. there are challenges but we have to choose the less of the two evils. Plus, with new technology like see-through solar panels, we will soon be able to coat the roof, hood and trunk of a car with electricity generating solar film. This will allow the cars to run and charge smaller polymer batteries soon. but we are not there yet. Maybe in 5 years time we will have perfected the technology for more eco-friendly cars. Hope that answers a few questions and concerns.
  13. you have earned my Respect buddy. thank you for such a detailed explanation. I have be enlightened
  14. I totally agree with you @derik. this has been a good post with so many thought provoking ideas and stats shared. Looking at all this, there is still hope for us ... the citizens of planet earth
  15. @husain1 I think we can start off by creating awareness in our social circles. Our best chances for convincing anyone is with someone we know. But that doesn't mean we can't use social media and forums
  16. It's really very nice to see that people are now talking about CO2 emission and there are people like @Gaurav and @treks that can throw good and solid stats and figures to convince others. @Technician i do agree that we governement needs to take quick and concrete step to help reduce CO2 emissions asap.
  17. Well for fuel saving, here are a few tips: if you don't mind the UAE heat, then at below 80 kph open the car windows and turn off the AC, above 80 kph roll up the windows and use your car's AC (research air resistance and drag for the science behind it) make sure your car's spark plugs are in A1 condition or use advance NGK or any other brands titanium tipped laser plugs make sure the car's air filter is clean or upgrade your car's air filter system upgrade your car's exhaust system, make sure you don't use a noisy one or you will get fined i think its around AED 200 use a good engine lubricant make sure that your tyre pressure is correct, lower tyre pressure uses more fuel if you can, then don't use car body kits as it changes the aerodynamics of the car and increase air resistance do not over accelerate, getting to 120 kph quickly means using more fuel. (drive safe) stay around 110kph and you will be surprised at how much fuel you can save by just going 10 kph slower. Most important - Make sure your next car is a hybrid Hope this helps
  18. I total agree with you on this one, if you increase the diameter of a tyre then that increases the speed of the car. The speedometer measures the rotation of tyre only, the diameter is already feed in its system. When the diameter increases that increases the total distance travelled per rotation. So depending on the increase in the diameter of the tyre, the actually speed can vary. If you use "low profile" tyres on a standard alloy rim then that will decrease the top speed of the car are the distance travelled per rotation will decrease.
  19. With sea level to rise by 6 feet by year 2100 due to greenhouse gases, i think it's time to act more responsibly. Our generation has already done enough damage to this planet and i think we should leave a good legacy for the next generation. Having said that, love that engine revving. Its awesome, but it's time to change our ways.
  20. that is true, a wheel which has a larger diameter than stock wheels will improve in getting better milage. But! you will be trading better milage for a price too heavy as larger wheels add a lot of strain on the clutch and gear box. in fact, gear sleeve can worn out well before time. Then your car's breaking system gets affected as its disks are designed to handle smaller wheels. And finally, the ABS can malfunction as it too is design on the calculation based on wheel diameter, tyre's surface area touching the road amongst other things. Going up by a small margin is something which might not damage your car too early but if you increase the wheel size too much them you are asking for trouble.
  21. that is true, Google and other popular platforms recommend that if you want people to submit information to a website then the website must have SSL certificate. but this is beyond SSL, there is literally no excuse to having 123456 as a password. In fact its about time that websites admins should use the 1000 most common lists and ban those passwords. By the way, there are easier way of managing passwords, for example LastPass is a tool which i use for work. there are other web-services as well which can be used for logging into a website. these site protect your information like paypal does when it comes protecting your bank accounts information. But i think, mostly people are too lazy to make an effort until its too late to do anything.
  22. To be really honest, if your password is going to be "123456" then you are begging for trouble.
