@sertac do you have health insurance? You know you can get antibiotics for this? Will clear it up in a week 😂

Not a bad price to be honest if you’re planning on keeping the car. I’ve charged people more just to remove and refit a gearbox, not including repair work.

I’ve been here for a while now so I kind of know my way around but I’m no expert. I can get myself to a general area but I use google maps to take me to the exact destination. Once I’ve been there, I can always go back without a map and find my way home again. Google maps are good as long as you stay aware of your surroundings and know where you are instead of following it blindly where it tells you to go. Mine still isn’t showing speed. Maybe I need to update it. Totally agree with @Gaurav if it showed the speed limit it would be totes amazeballs. Sometimes you go into a new road and you think the speed limit is something but it is something else. And the first time you find out is when the fine comes through.

Hi Pradeep. Welcome to carnity 👋

I’ve seen many people die in cars and on bikes. That’s just the danger of the road. I love both, and both have their own advantages and disadvantages but for me, bikes offer that little bit more. There’s a connection with the environment around you that you just don’t get in a car. It feels like freedom, that’s the only way I can describe it. When you open the throttle on a crappy old second hand sports bike and leave some guy in his brand new Porsche at the lights, it gives you a great sense of satisfaction. Been chased by dogs before but never had to deal with tigers. That’s a whole new level. Thank god he wasn’t driving a tuk tuk.

Mitsubishi Evo 9 - Chameleon Painted
Barry replied to Jeh's topic in Mitsubishi General Discussion Forum in UAE
I like it. A bit OTT but I like it. I love a nice evo. The only Lancer worth modifying. I see so many modified lancers here in uae, thousands and thousands spent on wheels, body kits, paint, suspension, then you see it’s a 1.3 automatic and just think, why? For all the money spent on cars like these you could probably just go out and buy a nice standard STi Impreza and shit all over most cars on the road, and the added bonus is you didn’t blow all your cash on an automatic 1.3 Lancer that is basically worthless and uninsurable after all the cringey mods. -
7 Uncontrollable Car Fire Causes and Prevention
Barry replied to Gaurav's topic in General Discussions
Car fires are no joke. Plastic, cloth, hot oil, fuel, the whole car can go up in a few seconds. Fire extinguishers are a waste of time unless you know what you’re doing with it. If you have a big fire in your engine bay don’t even think about opening the bonnet to put it out, the flames will come out around you. Even if you’re not going to use the fire extinguisher, take it out of the car with you if possible. If you can’t get it out, make sure everyone stays back and tell the rescue services. These things can go off like a bomb if they get hot. Sometimes it’s better just to stand back and let the car burn. That’s what your insurance is for. Don’t underestimate how flammable engine oil is. Sure, you can stick a lit match in it and it will go out, but try pouring some on a hot exhaust manifold to see what happens. Personally I wouldn’t hang around after an accident trying to grab personal things, just get the heck out of the car. In rallying, drivers work on the 5 second rule. So as soon as the car stops bouncing, you have 5 seconds to get your belt off, get out of the car and start running. Something work practising. Never throw water on a car fire either. The water vaporises when it something hot and turns to steam. The steam carries fuel and oil into the air which can turn into a fireball. Sand is always a better option. Fire needs 3 things to burn, fuel, oxygen and heat so if you can stop one of these, you can kill the fire. I’ve seen a lot of fires from my time in motorsports and I could write a 10,000 word essay on it but that will do for now. -
Turkish is a tricky one for an English speaker because the some of the alphabet is different and the bits that are the same are pronounced differently. I can speak some phrases but I can’t read or write it properly. Same with Arabic, Hindi, Urdu, etc I just pick up things from listening to people but if you gave me a book in any of those languages I couldn’t read it. English, German and bullshit are the only things I’m fluent it.

Liberty AC Delco - Closed?
Barry replied to Jeh's topic in Chevrolet General Discussion Forum in UAE
Al Accad in Al Quoz has closed last week too so I have to go to Deira to get BMW and Mercedes stuff now. Things aren’t good at the minute. Even the big boys are having a hard time. -
When you’re learning a new language it’s best to learn the useful phrases first 😊

Anyone who buys a new car must be a special type of mental but if it wasn’t for these people there would be no second hand market. If people want to buy new cars I say let them. But don’t fall into the warranty trap. I posted a thread on here before. There is no legal obligation to stick to the dealer for servicing. It’s a scare sales pitch. If the dealer Denys warranty, there are ways where Dubai government will help you. Check manufacturer regulations. Know the rules. Just say hey I’m sending an email to Japan and most dealers will fall to their knees because they are scared of losing the agency. Know your rights

For me it has to be an orange Volvo/DAF 55. I have a fetish for oddball cars. It showed up in a scrapyard one day and I said I have to save that. I never thought about why the owner scrapped it. I loved the belt drive CVT. The transmission was super weird and the car would go as fast in reverse as it would forward. I tried it once. Going 60 mph backwards is the scariest thing I ever did. I loved the shape of the car so I planned to fit a 2.0 pinto and type 9 gearbox along with an atlas back axle. There was no space to widen the transmission tunnel, only room for 2 pedals on the floor. Hands down the most stupid car I ever bought.

Shit amona koyaim I cant give you a price but speak to Dexol in Al Quoz. Dexol Al Quoz ديكسول القوز 10 Street, Community 369, Al Quoz Industrial Area 4 - Dubai 04 380 4411 https://goo.gl/maps/y4pjQJEX3xDrAxQ19 They have been doing all my transmission work for 4 years. If it’s a small problem they will charge you small but if it’s a big problem they will charge accordingly. They have never ever let me down and they have never ripped me off. I don’t know how much a transmission is from scrap but I would rather have a rebuilt one from these guys than buy a second hand one that you don’t know how long it will last. If you love your car, repair what you have, then you know what you have.

Yeah, it’s not everyone who can say they have 2 front diffs. But this setup was chosen because it’s supposedly the strongest setup GM ever built. I don’t know. I build race cars. This 4x4 stuff is still new to me. I’ll try to get some more information on it. I was told all the tech specs a couple of months ago but most of it went in one ear and out the other, I was just too mindblown to listen. I have too much stuff I’m supposed to remember. If I didn’t write it all down in my diary so I could check back I’d be chevered.
-
@desertdude https://filesend.jp/spJvip Sorry for the link but I can’t post pics for some reason. I can’t post too many pics or it will spoil the big reveal when it’s finished but you should be able to see 2 diffs in the front on independent suspension.

I think I’ve been in that guys garage before

Electric power steering is cool. I used to build a lot of rally cars, old 70s/80s stuff. Ford Escorts and the like. One of the first mods I always done was swap the steering column for one from an Opel corsa. Automatic electric power steering conversion. Once you modified it to fit you just had to run 2 wires to the computer to make it work. No pump sucking your horsepower, no pipes to leak. Turns it into a new car.
-
I’m not arguing advantages or disadvantages. I’m just saying it has been done. Maybe it’s a rock crawling thing, I don’t know. Just wait, I will show you.
-
It’s a super wide transfer case with 2 propshafts running to the front. Both front wheels have their own differentials and their own independent suspension setup. I don’t know how to explain it simpler, my brain was melted first time I seen it too. It’s not portal axles or floating axles, it’s something you have never seen before. You’re welcome to come and see it or wait a couple of days and I’ll post pictures.
-
No, each front wheel actually has it’s own separate differential. Would I lie to you? 😂 Huge transfer box with 2 props running to the front. It’s a super rare weird setup from a GM panel van that was only built for 2 years. Our USA friends like this setup because it’s supposed the strongest setup GM ever built. I’m going to Oman tomorrow but I’ll post some pics when I get back.
-
Jack the front of the car up so both wheels are off the ground. If it’s still tight when you steer, you might have a bad ball joint or track rod end or something. If it feels ok, you maybe just have a car with heavy steering. I’ve driven a lot of pajeros and I wouldn’t say they have light steering. Try that test and see what happens but it’s probably ok, it’s a pajero not a Range Rover.

Yes I still like to get my hands dirty. Car shows is only part of it. We still have to repair cars to pay for all the crazy builds we do. You should drop into the shop some day and have a look. I know you like jeeps. We’re building a stupid crazy SWB wrangler rock crawler at the minute. Small block Chevy, lengthened and widened chassis, 48” tyres, air ride suspension, 3 differentials, yes 3, each front wheel has its own differential. If you’re into engineering the front suspension setup will blow your mind. Stupid crazy car.

The problem here is there are very few mechanics. I could probably count the decent mechanics I know on one hand. Most of the “mechanics” here are low paid labourers who have never even opened a book. I’ve lost count of the number of people I’ve hired and fired this year already. People come and tell you they have been doing the job for 10 years, but when it comes down to it, they recommend changing a whole assembly at 5,000 dhs rather than change a 10 dhs bearing because they’re just not educated and have no interest in learning anything technical. To be honest, if I was earning 2-3k per month I probably wouldn’t be all that interested either. And the problem is only compounded by cheap bastards always searching for the lowest price rather than getting a quality job, even if it means getting an engine held together with silicon and shellac.

Hi Xaf! Welcome to carnity! Don’t worry about being a noob, the best of us have all started somewhere!

Money isn’t an issue. If I told you what was spent on this car you would cry. You could probably go out and buy a new Lamborghini for what was spent on this build. There were only 1200 of these cars built and there are less than 100 left. The parts just aren’t out there and Mercedes aren’t interested in reproducing them in such a small quantity. I’ve asked.
