  1. For me it has to be the Mercedes 190 SL. A lot of people write it off as the lesser brother of the famous gullwing SL but I think it looks so much classier with its sleek lines and open top sports car look. I love a lot of classic cars but this comes top of the list for me.
  2. The transmission is coded to match the ECU. Its like getting a new girlfriend. You wake up one day after a few beers and there’s a different girl lying beside you. You’re going to think, hey, who is this, and there will be communication problems. When you change the transmission, the ECU is sending signals to the transmission and the transmission sends a signal back. The ECU says, hey, you’re not my transmission so they don’t communicate and work properly together. The ECU needs to be tricked into thinking the original transmission is installed in the car to work properly. This is why the coding from the old transmission is flashed to the new transmission. This is a big problem with new cars I come across every day. Some cars require simple things like window motors to be recoded to suit the car. Some new cars won’t accept second hand electrical parts, even after recoding. Brand new, dealer only, and they still require coding after that. I only work on classic cars now but I try to stay up to date with new stuff as much as possible and attend every course and seminar I can find. It’s getting harder and harder for the everyday mechanic to repair basic faults without having a degree in automotive or electric engineering. I only do it because you never know when the dream will end and you have to go back to the real world.
  3. When you can shower comfortably. The water doesn’t freeze you so hard that you can’t breathe, and it’s not like standing under a blow torch. The shattaf doesn’t mess with your asshole. You don’t have to store water in buckets to let it cool and you don’t have to use the water heater to make it warm. The weather isn’t hot, it isn’t cold. All is well with the world. Enjoy while you can before mr sun starts kicking our ass again.
  4. Same concept but 50 years later. Everyone thinks it’s a new modern thing. How did Nissan get it so wrong with 50 years of research behind them? I got a Nissan in last week. CVT was faulty. Previous mechanic changed the transmission 3 Times and it wouldn’t work. Car came to me this week. I spent 10 minutes reprogramming the transmission and it worked perfectly. If only people would spend a few hundred extra dhs to pay for someone who knows what they’re doing instead of paying 50dhs to a monkey in rashidiya with a computer, their life would be easier I charge a bit more but you don’t have to deal with bulshit mechanics or wrong diagnosis.
  5. BosoZuku style is cool. I respect the guys who live that lifestyle. But when some white or brown guy breaks his suspension and bursts his tyres to try to pretend to be one of them and act cool, nah, that’s all wrong. This is one of the times where it’s appropriate to claim “cultural appropriation”. Next thing they’ll be growing dreadlocks and singing bob Marley songs. Make your own style people.
  6. I love modifying stuff, it’s my job. But one thing that I hate is stupidly stretched tyres and massive negative camber. I modify stuff to make it go faster or look better. If you do stuff like this for fake internet points, youre a twat
  7. @Rahimdad it was a DAF/Volvo 55 I had. I think it was a 71 or 72. I bought it from and old guy who wanted to restore it but he had a stroke. I bought it intending to put a big engine in it but there was no room to fit a pedal box so I had some fun with it and sold it to a guy from the Isle of Man on the internet. It was an early form of CVT. It had a rubber belt that used to slide between 2 cones as you drove different speeds. The fun part was that it would do the same speed backwards as it would do forwards. I tried it once and trust me, it was more scary than fun 😂
  8. Are you sure? I would have said that’s a coolant overheat warning. Not saying you’re wrong, I don’t work on new cars
  9. Use what it says to use in the owners manual. Using something else might save you 50-100 dhs now but it could result in a 3,000 dhs rebuild next year. Dont just rely on the thickness, ie 85w90, check the other specs of the oil and see if they’re suitable to your vehicle. Oil is the blood of your car. It’s like being thirsty and drinking coke instead of water all day. You will get sick. Stick to what it says in the owner manual.
  10. Maybe the adjuster screw just isn’t working? I have a proper headlight beam setter tool in the shop if you need some help setting it up properly.
  11. @Gaurav @Rahimdad you know my off-road capabilities. I’ll follow anyone anywhere but I scared myself too much following you guys on the last expert level drive. I’ll let you know when I’m going up, Insha’Allah I can get you a drive in the 2 big cars. I’m working on the flamethrowers so you can fight over that truck 😂
  12. It was definitely disappointing but the company made it worthwhile. I left around 9:30. The cars are still there if anyone wants a look. We’re going to go up later in the week and take them into the desert for a play.
  13. I just sent the first car up on the recovery truck. 2 more to go. I think I’ll leave work around 3:30 and go there to do some final detailing. See you soon ✌️ Just to confirm, it will be off-road and 4x4 stuff on display
  14. Long time no see Rahim bhai. Will be good to catch up again. New job and I only have one day a week off now and I spend it sleeping. Miss going out with you guys. Must make an effort to attend a drive soon.
  15. If you’re fitting any suspension parts when the car is on a lift, make sure the mechanic leaves the bolts loose and only tightens them when the car has all 4 wheels on the ground. This means your bushings etc will be unstressed. If the bolts are tightened when the car is in the air, when the wheels touch the ground, the rubber parts will be under stress and will wear out faster.
  16. I have a LG W150 with metal strap. Nice looking watch but honestly, I’ve used it twice and I don’t intend to use it again. It seems cool checking your text messages on a watch but it’s easier on your phone. And I don’t like connecting my earphones to my phone, then watch to take a call. Easier just to connect directly to the phone. Plus having to recharge it is a pain in the arse. I get why people like smart watches but it’s not for me. I get more use out of my karama branded replica watches.
  17. Happy belated 50th bhai. You’re doing a good job of hiding the white hairs, henna dye is amazing stuff 😊
  18. There is an independent off-road car show on Saturday 27th April. Location is, Hotdog garage, Dubai https://goo.gl/maps/L81F5UcQMzafZmiMA I am sending 3 cars, Ford F350 Terminator. Huge huge beast with massive lift on the biggest tyres you have ever seen, you need a helicopter just to get in the door. Comes complete with flamethrowers Tomahawk Jeep, some of you have seen this, WW2 aeroplane themed JK. The one with the machine guns on the bonnet. Built with original parts from a B52 bomber. Independent 4 wheel steering rock crawling beast. 1975 GCC spec FJ Land Cruiser. Fully restored and is in as new condition. Total time warp machine and very interesting to drive. Ive heard there is a decent sized crowd attending. Plenty of show cars coming too. Show starts at 18:00, hope to see some of you there. Any enquiries just ask or if you have a car you want to show off I’ll put you in touch with the organisers.
  19. It does happen. I’ve seen it a few times but it’s not an every day thing. My car went on fire because of a faulty ignition switch. Shorted out, dropped some hot plastic on the floor and the whole thing burnt. I’ve seen other cars burn because of small oil and fuel leaks. Little bit drops on a hot part of the engine, smoulders and ignites. It doesn’t take much to start a fire.
  20. Thanks Sri. What is TC number?
  21. Does anyone know the process of registering a trailer in uae? What documents etc are required? Or where I can find information? Airstream type caravan trailer.
  22. IMO it’s only news because it’s a Tesla and Tesla is one of the big buzzwords at the minute. I had a Volkswagen that spontaneously burnt itself to the ground because of an electrical fault but that wasn’t on the news.
  23. Did the mechanic fill the lifters with oil before starting the engine? Try taking the car for a good run, keep the RPM at 3-4K for 10-15 minutes. You should hear any rattly lifters disappear one by one.
  24. Especially older stuff like body on frame cars. Some of the stuff I build for clients I would never drive any further than a test drive round al quoz but hey, you pays your money you gets what you want. Fibreglass model t’s with no roll bars and stuff, not even seatbelts, super sexy, much wow, times like these “Insha’Allah” really comes into play.
