  1. Hahahaha calling in @Gaurav on this one. I have seen few replicas (normal gen2 pajeros that have got the bodykit installed) here in Dubai. But also heard a story of a guy that was able to buy a real Evolution straight from the Habtoor showroom (could be fake story). These are legendary Pajeros that are now real collectors items and won about everything back in the days Mitsubishi was conquering the Paris Dakar races. Another mythical story is that this Pajero would easily do things that even a Raptor could not do.... 🤐
  2. That's great equipment Ranjan, thanks for the quick feedback. We will be definitely helping you out to discover the manual mode.
  3. @Darren Brooke @Jorge Stepniak Felippe@Lakshmi Narasimhan @Ranjan Das Can you please update us on which camera equipment you would be bringing (camera, lenses, tripod) ? And if you have experience with using the camera in manual mode and change the settings ?
  4. Hi @PaoloMaraziti this is a very good question. Coming off the dune in the way you describe is completely correct, and indeed the "entering into sidesloping" can be done successfully as long as you keep the appropriate momentum. Be aware that this also depends on how soft the sand is on that side. If you are crossing from the hard side of the dune onto the slip face (soft side) then that continuation of sidesloping will be more difficult as the sand will have the tendency to drag you down immediately.
  5. I would advise to get the engine mounts and suspension checked. Does it only appear when braking while reversing ? And are you turning the steering wheel when this occurs ?
  6. Happy birthday @Srikumar !!
  7. Absolutely deserved @Foxtrot Oscar !! You’ve overcome every single obstacle you were faced with with Bravoure. See you soon in the sand !!
  8. RSVP IS NOW CLOSED Please find your convoy positions above. We will be using CHANNEL 2: 446.03125 Mhz The Faqa terrain is beautiful, but can be very challenging at the same time. We will be crossing through some very complicated technical terrain, so adequate distance inbetween the cars will be necessary. Seniors on the drive are @Shaaz Shaand @Kailas who will be helping you out in case we have stucks and refusals, which i hope we will have a few and practice self recovery skills Please arrive before 6AM so you have ample time to put up your flag and deflate. Mandatory tools will be your pressure gauge, programmed radio, shovel, and a flag. Be aware that you will not be accepted on the drive without these items. Keep your distance during deflation, and abide by the COVID rules we have outlined in the topic. Let's keep it safe for everyone please. I am looking forward to this drive as this is my favorite area and i am sure we'll have lots of fun ! See you tomorrow morning !
  9. Copying the previous session post from Mikhail as introduction here: Hello everyone! Thanks for joining us! Since we are going to take some stars photos, we need to have some basic equipment with us. If you do not have something, probably, you will not be able to get desired result. However, equipment list is very basic: 1) tripod suitable for your camera. There is no need to have an expensive tripod, however, if your camera and lens is heavy, sturdy tripod would be handy 2) DSLR or mirrorless camera able to shoot in raw with exposure time up to 20 seconds. If you do not have one, you can try to shoot with a simple point and shoot camera or phone, but lack of settings could be an issue. If you have a camera but not sure if it is suitable or not, feel free to ask here! 3) wide angle lens. Actually, any kit lens should work fine. Do not bring your telephoto lens or a portrait lens this time, we will not use it. Again, if your are not sure what to bring with you, feel free to ask! 4) a bit of adhesive tape would be handy but not mandatory. 5) fully charged battery for your camera. 6) red light headlamp. Red light helps a lot operating your camera and not overstressing your eyes That's it! Kindly let us know what camera and lens you are planning to bring so we can check if it is suitable beforehand. Thanks! Preparation plan: We will be mostly using the Manual mode on the camera. We would advise to have a look at your camera's operating manual beforehand so you are comfortable how to switch over to Manual mode and find the settings that you will need to experiment with: 1) ISO setting. 2) Shutter Speed. 3) Aperture will need to be at its max. setting that your lens can take. (fully open). We will be practicing with various settings and helping you out to determine what works best as per your camera, lens, and personal preferences. The main aim is to learn from each other and enjoy the beautiful scenery and tranquility at night, hence we would ask all members to respect the silence and not to disturb others by driving around with the 4x4 during the session, using bright flashlights, or shouting.
  10. For night photography i would recommend using the 28mm prime lens. What's the aperture of that lens ? F1.8 ?
  11. I tried a few different cheap brands which all died after 14-15 months right about after warranty period. One of them even after 9 months but was able to get it replaced. I have heard good things about Energizer too (longer warranty but higher prices). From what i recollect since i started offroading is that this discussion passed by few times and Amaron kept coming out as a winner in price vs quality. It also depends where the battery is located (inside the boot or in the engine bay). Heat kills them as in my BMW it was installed in the back of the car and lasted 4 years.
  12. Get an Amaron battery. They are to my opinion the ones that last the longest.
  13. @samamara for now it is limited to 10 signups due to COVID, and also due to the fact we help out others and want to make sure it's doable to spend time with people who are doing this for the first time. Keep an eye on the topic the coming days as we always have some cancellations and will update the waiting list accordingly.
  14. Current Waitlist as per Monday 26 April: 1) Gaurav @Gaurav 2) Samamara @samamara 3) Srikumar @Srikumar 4) Chaitanya @Chaitanya D 5) JeromeFJ @JeromeFJ @Ranjan Das i have added you to the session.
  15. In my opinion most DSLR cameras nowadays perform really well. If you want to have the freedom to change lenses later on you should be looking at Canon or Nikon DSLR cameras. Both brands are very similar, but i've liked Canon from my early beginnings long time back and got used to it. As per the internet reviews i have seen Nikon sometimes outperforms Canon. There is very little difference though. If you are willing to buy second hand, there are tons of good deals on Dubizzle of people selling their DSLR with camera bag, battery, lenses, etc.. which i feel is a better option if you have a limited budget. My Canon EOS 5D Mark2 was bought second hand and came with some nice lenses already and only later purchased a 14mm f2.8 wide-angle lens for night photography and a decent tripod to mount the camera on. If you prefer a more compact model with integrated lens, have a look at Fujifilm X series. They are not cheap but have heard amazing things about them. If you want to focus on night photography you will be needing a lens with a wide aperture like f2.8 which will allow for a lot of light to enter into the lens. https://www.apotelyt.com/compare-camera/canon-800d-vs-nikon-d5600
  16. Hi @Chris Meir the manage tab is only being used by the drive lead to add Advance and above members which will be responsible mainly for recoveries, CF, etc.. But i do really appreciate your gesture and willingness to help and will definitely assign you in a more responsible position being a Fewbie. See you Friday morning !
  17. Hi @Chris Meir, apparently you ended up in the manage tab instead of the going list, that's why i removed you. I will add you to the drive.
  18. Totally agree. The Montero Sport is a great allround 4x4 that will take up to 7 passengers, and is a capable offroader as well. Personally i am not keen on getting a new vehicle for offroading purpose as it would give me too much pain when the first time the bumper gets hit or damaged 😅
  19. @Niki @Lakshmi Narasimhan @Nivin @Alain Canivet-Abikhalil @Veedooshee @Darren Brooke @Mario Cornejo @Brette @Thomas Varghese Please let us know which camera experience you have, if you have done night photography before, and which camera and lens you would bring, so we can help you in preparing the session.
  20. Current Waitlist as per Monday 26 April: 1) Ranjan Das @Ranjan Das 2) Gaurav @Gaurav 3) Samamara @samamara 4) Srikumar @Srikumar 5) Chaitanya @Chaitanya D @Jorge Stepniak Felippei have added you to the session as i moved Mikhail to the manage tab.
