The good thing is that it triggers us to dig back into the old Tool stuff. Lateralus has been pumping my car stereo last days. Brought back lots of memories 😆

Hey Yas ! Welcome back ! And one serious topic to start off with 😆. I have seen some stuff on Instagram and had a look at some foreign forums a year back for the same reason. From what I’ve seen there is no straight simple swap to one of these engines, and if you find the capable guy to do so, you’re probably looking at a 40k AED job or even much higher. On top of that RTA will not pass this so you won’t be able to register the car anymore. My two cents: you’re currently driving a 3.8 which is a very capable off-roader. What would be the main reason for the upgrade ? Don’t get me wrong i also think it’s super cool to have a beast like that, but you should consider that many people do these engine swaps without upgrading cooling systems, brakes, safety devices, which makes the car a death ride and not suitable for long off-road drives, rather for going on Faya and showing off. The risk of tipping over and serious incidents is much higher too. I guess you don’t want to end up on a YouTube channel called “UAE desert Fails” or something. if anyone could pull it off, it would be @Barry

in our search to have a decent GPS app to guide us in the desert, today i wanted to review and compare MotionX and Gaia GPS, which are both apps specifically tailored to Off-Road driving or hiking. As i had an old Samsung Note 5 laying around which had a very big screen, i decided to use that phone and mount it in my car to use it as a dedicated GPS. Unfortunately when i found out that MotionX is only for IOS platforms, i was forced to look for something else and stumbled upon Gaia GPS. In the Youtube tutorial below, this gentleman makes a great comparison and it's worth having a look at: As a summary, i come to the following: MotionX: + Completely Free with full functionality + Easy to use, set up - No Android support - No possibility to create multi-bend tracks Gaia GPS: + Easy to use and set up + Customizable Bar Tiles on the home screen + Overlay Maps + Possibility to create multi-bend tracks. - FREE version only has only 1 basic Topographic map, but the paid version costs 10USD per year that gives full functionality and satellite map. Full Premium Membership costs 30USD for year in case you want to add more maps and resources, but is more tailored to hiking. https://help.gaiagps.com/hc/en-us/articles/115003524547-Free-vs-Membership-vs-Premium-Membership Surely there will be more specific PROS and CONS once having used these programs. Please add them in your replies so we can share our hints and tricks to use these great apps. Both apps support map download, so you can download the area in case you have no data coverage in that area, or if your phone simply has no SIM card in it So there you have it, two apps which are perfectly capable of doing the things we want them to do for our Off-road adventures in the UAE deserts. Do share your questions, suggestions, experiences !

Wrangler Rear Differential - Spider Gear Chipped
Frederic replied to Javier M's topic in Jeep Wrangler Forum in UAE
Very strange indeed. You might want to get the diff bearings checked too. If there is excessive play in those, that might be the reason why the teeth chipped off. In case of regular overheating you should probably see a blueish color on the teeth too. I don’t think that’s the case here. You mentioned that the car behaved differently off-road. The damage must have been pretty severe by then already. Did you use your diff locks recently or kept them engaged while driving? Using rear diff lock for anything else than recovery causes severe stress and friction on the axle and it’s components.- 28 replies

What is your biggest problem as a car owner?
Frederic replied to Derick's topic in General Discussions
This here is the main reason why people use Carnity: to get more detailed information and knowledge about their cars to we can all try to balance the impossible. Because this really IS impossible to have the best of all worlds. And that goes for nearly all services in life. (And please don’t get me started on Carrefour...) The only thing you can do is preparing yourself for what cost is coming, getting quotes and consulting car forums like Carnity, and trying sufficient workshops until you find the one that suits you personally. And like @Rahimdad correctly mentions, go and consult a professional for the specific task at hand. After all you don’t go and see a neurosurgeon for a grown-in toe nail. Try to realize also that everyone needs to make money, so that workshop that looks clean, professional, and has excellent staff who can solve your problem fast, will have higher overhead costs than a mechanic in a tiny shop without staff. Personally I have a pretty good intuition, so I work on a basis of trust and transparency, and don’t see my mechanic as someone who is trying to rip me off from the start, but rather as a person who has the balls to run his own business with the risks involved. When my trust gets a dent, i discuss this with him and tell him to do better next time, or I move on to another shop. It’s a hard business and we all need to be the best in what we do to survive. -

I’ve seen her on Mythbusters and Overhaulin. But forgot about her name and came across the news by coincidence.

Hey buddy, i remember during the last drive you did with us, you had some issues with a flat or popped out tyre and we wanted to put on the spare tyre, but there was an issue with the wheel bolts because they were too short or something? As your rims are not the stock ones, you might want to get them looked at too. Or did these come originally with the car ?
