We'll venture from Al Kathim (off of E22) in search of a passage to take the convoy all the way to Faya (along Faya Truck Road). This could be a seamless drive on nice sandy dunes, or one where we may need to find passages across sand roads and farmsteads. Let's the spirit of adventure prevail and help s come up with a new itinerary to be added to our menu of drives. What to bring along: Loads of water, snacks (for yourself), smiles, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn. Approximate finish time: 7:00 PM P.S. Only join if you have a compressor to inflate your tires after the drive. RECOMMENDED OFF-ROAD GEAR: Tire deflator & Tire pressure gauge Compressor (MANDATORY) Walkie-talkie radio (MANDATORY) Off-road flag (MANDATORY) Shovel, Tow Rope & 2 Shackles First-aid kit Fire extinguisher. LIMITED SPOTS AVAILABLE This drive is limited to 10 cars only. RSVP will close on Friday - 12 PM. If the RSVP is full, you can add your name to the waitlist, once anyone drops, you will be moved to the RSVP list. RSVP will close a day prior to preparing a convoy list. Latecomers will be returned - Without any exceptions. Members without RSVP will be returned - Without any exceptions. 2. Hi @Sandeep N. I already counted you in. Please come. I have modified the convoy accordingly. Thanks and see you later.
  3. Dear Desertnauts ready to ball at the rhythm of Country Music, with a medium range drive (50 plus Km) that will take us from the Sweihan Ramlat area (big bowls and long-range dunes) through Sweihan's Pond, in a loop that will bring us back to Sweihan town. Medium level difficulties that we'll navigate at a pace that will depend mainly on the conditions of the sand, and how the slopes and ridges have transformed in a period of high winds such as this past few days. The well mixed convoy will line up as follow: @Giacomo in Second Lead @Bhaskaran Ramaswamy at #3 @Warbs at #4 @Myrko at #5 @Steve Farmer at #6 @ChrisW at Center @Shary at #8 @Kashx2 at #9 @Glenn W at #10 @Krinesh at #11 and @Aser in Sweep. See you tomorrow ready to go at 3:00 PM. Have a nice end of the week.

Drive Details Level: Fewbie and above Meeting time: 03:00 PM Meeting Point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/zHTU54Dek3K5hpZH7 Action Plan: First of a new series of drives dedicated to Country Music. Even though it is distinct American genre, it blends the folk music traditions of English, Scottish, and Irish immigrants with elements of African American blues, gospel, and other musical styles. Invariably, the stories told through Country music are based on everyone's most human and truest feelings - love, family, the rewards of one's work and the pleasures of one's leisure time - infused with fascination for being on the frontier of exploration and at the forefront of cultural innovation and exchange (what was once the feeling of living in America, and is now what feels like living in the UAE). Hence, each installment of this series will pick a song that will embody the spirit of the drive. This time it will be "Country Boy's World", by Jason Aldean. It tells the story of a "country boy" and his world, contrasting it with the experiences of someone unfamiliar with that lifestyle, a little bit "unfamiliar" like most of us must have felt faced for the first time with life in the UAE, and most of all facing its deserts and raw nature. What better area than Sweihan Ramlat to embody this feeling of frontier, wilderness and adventure.... What to bring along: Loads of water, snacks (for yourself), smiles, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn. Approximate finish time: 7:00 PM P.S. Only join if you have a compressor to inflate your tires after the drive.

  6. Dear Desertnauts here's the late briefing for today's drive. Quite a straightforward track, following the sun starting at Nahil Lake (which is actually hidden just beyond the meeting and deflation point) and moving west toward Sweihan. The initial segment will be a little more complicated by somewhat closer dunes, with some vegetation, while the last segment will be in an area of wide open, very long dunes, extremely pleasant to drive. The convoy order at the moment is the following: @Sam Selim in Second Lead @saumik1989 at #3 @Warbs at #4 @Glenn W at #5 @ChrisW in Sweep, and @Aser in "flying sweep" (free to move up and down the convoy in extra support. Looking forward to seeing you this afternoon.
  7. Dear @Suneedh Wrangler, I hope you sort the issue out. I'll keep you signed up for the drive, but PLEASE confirm your status before 2:00 PM (especially if you are NOT coming). Thanks
  8. Dear Desertnauts not too much to say about tomorrow's drive. The convoy will be short, so we'll aim to keep the pace hot, driving almost in a straight line along the southern Dubai border with Abu Dhabi. We'll have to navigate a couple of possibly fenced off areas in the proximity of Ghantoot, but for the most part we should be driving in relatively clean terrutory, with not as many bushes as the vicinity. The convoy order will be shuffled throughout the drive, based on everyone's performance, to give everyone as many opportunities to practice from different positions. @Kashx2, @Shary and @Giacomo, I am looking forward to seeing you tomorrow.

We'll drive following the setting sun, through long range open dunes, a few technical spots, and an open sabkha, to end the drive in a beautiful clean dune field overlooking Sweihan's camel farms. Moderately challenging for a Newbie route, it will allow us to enjoy the dunes and the sky's changing color, until the sun will be low on the horizon. Type of Car: Any proper 4x4 with front and back tow hooks and 8-10 inches of ground clearance. What to bring along: Loads of water, snacks (for yourself), smiles, enthusiasm and willingness to learn. Drive Details Level: Fewbie and above Meeting time: 03:30 PM Meeting Point: https://maps.app.goo.gl/xv5uQGtPGAUNQH7X7 Action Plan: The title of this series of drives, which will alternate with the Summer Sunsets' series, is a must for the month of August. The desert is at its peak, fully displaying one of its most feared traits: scorching heat. An advantage of driving ion August is that very few off-roaders venture in, leaving a very pristine environment at the mercy of the elements, mostly winds and the sun. Driving in the afternoon, at least allows to look forward to the cooler hours of the day and evening. This second drive of the series will take us along the Dubai/Abu Dhabi border, to follow a line of long and open cordons, stretching from Faqa all the way to Ghantoot, skirting a military area and one of the UAE's main archeological digs. The drive will be following almost a straight line, navigating from point to point at moderate to high speed, maintaining the high ground as much as possible, as any good "patrol" would do to scout the surroundings. What to bring along: Loads of water, snacks (for yourself), smiles, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn. Approximate finish time: 7:00 PM P.S. Only join if you have a compressor to inflate your tires after the drive.

  13. Dear Desertnauts a few notes about tomorrow's drive. It'll be a Premiere, on a track just barely tested, in an area of mixed terrain, mostly technical, due especially to soft sand and quite an interesting and unique vegetation. Plus, we'll encounter a couple of very tricky sabkhas, with a very wet ground, quite muddy even during a recent recce drive, where we'll have to drive fast, at the margin between the wet and dry sand. One of these sabkhas will be disseminated with blown up containers, remnants of drone target practice. Truely a scene from a science fiction movie. The meeting point is quite far, along Razeen Road. The entry is through an automatic gate. For refueling purposes, there are 2 gas stations available nearby: ADNOC Service Station 131 is the closest, while ADNOC Service Station Al Razeen (128) is a little further away, just off E30. Make sure you have a full tank. The convoy order will be the following: @Johannes Roux in Second Lead @Wayne Momsen at #3 @Warbs at #4 @Shary at #5 @Andrew John Melvill in the Center @B.K. at #7 @Sam Selim at #8 @Diego at #9 @Krinesh at #10 and @Giacomo in Sweep Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow a little ahead of 3:00 PM.
  14. Dear @Suneedh Wrangler. Thanks for joining the drive. Due to lacking the minumum number (min. 3 drivers, for safety purposes) I will cancel the drive, but will repost it next weekend, so you may join again, if you wish. Looking forward to seeing you next weekend. Thanks.

  19. Hello @Warbs. Did you accidentally cancel yourself from the drive or you actually wanted to withdraw? Please confirm. Thanks
  20. Dear Desertnauts a short briefing before tomorrow's technical drive. We'll meet under the pylons, on the road from Qudra's Last Exit toward Solar Park's Innovation Center. We should deflate a bit more than the usual rate (maybe 1 or 2 PSI's), based on your type of tires, due to the likely softer sand surface we are sure to find with these high temperatures. Usually, a lower deflation rate generates concerns with the risk of pop-outs, which can be avoided, or minimized, by paying greater attention to avoiding sliding down from slopes and reaching the bottom of a descent as perpendicular as possible to the slope. Also make sure that heavy cars, such as Prados or Land Cruisers don't take turns too sharply, but with a wider, gentler, angle. Having made these recommendations, prepare yourselves for a drive where the use of steering will be very important, as well as being able to accelerate from low speeds with short bursts of engine power, to make short climbs out of low bowls, and reach the next dune's ridge. We plan to move along almost straight lines from the Three Trees (our entry point) to the Solar Tower, and back. The convoy order will be the following: @Andrew John Melvill in Second Lead @essam ibrahim at #3 @Shary at #4 @Warbs at #5 and @J-P L in Sweep. Looking forward to seeing you tomorrow afternoon. Enjoy your Saturday evening.

Looking for beautiful places to enjoy the sunset, this time the spot that has been selected is also pertinent in its name and meaning. We'll drive a loop from the Three Trees (on the side of the road from Qudra to Solar Park) to the Solar Tower and back. We'll aim for the beacon of light, nowadays visible from almost everywhere in Dubai, Sharjah, and parts of Abu Dhabi, through a maze of technical dunes. If the technical area is not enough to make this one a tough drive, a factor posing an extra challenge will be the soft sand we'll encounter at the beginning of the drive. What to bring along: Loads of water, snacks (for yourself), smiles, enthusiasm, and willingness to learn. Approximate finish time: 7:00 PM P.S.
