  1. Congrats on your lead @Shamil but unfortunately I will not be able to attend to drive. I am removing my name from RSVP.
  2. Hi @Rahimdad, I gave your details to a friend who is looking for a flight for him and his family. I think he needs to go Trivandrum. Anyway he'll reach you.
  3. Having one overheating experience will change you forever. I check heat gauges constantly now, even when I'm on the passanger seat. experimental lessons are impossible to forget.
  4. As far as I've been informed there is no leak anymore (Head gasket issue is still a question mark). Anyway I took the car from that workshop after a huge negotiation and a significant discount. The car is in @Barry's experienced hands now.
  5. To be honest car is in the workshop for more than 2 weeks now and coolant is being removed constantly due to part changes. So I'm not sure if the level went down. I will do chemical test. Thanks @Barry for help. Unfortunately I don't have DM option in my subscription. I will take the car from this workshop tomorrow and bring it to yours if it's open tomorrow. @desertdude If the headgasket is fine I will change the radiator as well. Thank you @Gaurav, @Barry, and @desertdude for your helps.
  6. I have to leave this drive as well. My car and my mechanic is testing my nerve. Have fun guys.
  7. I am going to get crazy. First of all I do admit that taking car to this workshop was a mistake. However past is past. An addition to work have been done above (Fan clutch, water pump, thermostate) radiator and AC condenser were cleaned. There were small leakage on a few pipe (Mechanic says after chancing weak points, it moves to another one and in this case it was pipe) so they were replaced.... Mechanic says on the highway test with normal driving it's ok but when you start to push it heats again. His conclusion is, there might be a tiny leakage in the head gasket. But there is sign of that in the engine oil. He claims that it's minor therefore it doesn't show in the oil. After all he is charging over 2000aed for a non-repaired car. My question before going there and making a mass is, would his conclusion be possible?
  8. I saw a Niva in Al Quoz couple months ago. I guess it was in front of Ramy.
  9. Hi @Salarios, where is this place exactly? I would like to see it. It reminded me Salt Lake in Turkey, which you need to walk 600mt or maybe more to get near by the lake but usually there are some adventurer guys with 2wd cars try to go there and get stuck well often. https://images.app.goo.gl/TrWadusT1BccKQVF9
  10. Congratulation @Michael sammy I guess Liwa will hear your 3,8's roar pretty soon. 😄
  11. I don’t know if it is the same beat up XJ but yes. The yellow one
  12. Hi guys, I stumbled upon below channel on Youtube and I found very interesting. This is an Offroad recovery company from USA, they share their recovery videos on Youtube. As far as I can see, he mostly uses kinetic rope for tugs and tows. I don't know his sand recovery technic can be applied here in desert but It might be helpful. 13. Is there any PM option here? I couldn't find it. Anyway, 058 891 8441 is my number. If you send me a message on whatsapp I can share all the info.
  14. After spending 5 hours today in the workshop -just left from there- I had the same issue in the test drive. Engine got heated again Gauge went up to somewhere around 115degrees (Last time yes we checked it with OBD but this time only with Gauge) and coolant water was dripping from reserve tank (I'm not sure if it is the right name for it)... Clutch fan, water pump, thermostat has changed. They told me that pressure loss might be a reason as well due to cap fault but after that I kind of got frustrated and left the shop... Anyway they will check the pressure thing tomorrow. Also mechanic says he checked all the sockets, cables, fuses and relays regarding fan and he says there is no problem on electrical components... Would there be any other possible problem If the pressure in radiator is also fine ?? I think I quite agree with you.
  15. Hi @Frederic, Although I was very excited to be 2nd lead, I have to leave from the drive. I just left the workshop and my car still has heating problem. I believe someone else can be 2nd lead. Can you switch me with @Mehmet Volga on drive list? I will be with him tomorrow on his passenger seat. Sorry for last minute change. 😒
  16. I work in a furniture company from Turkey which supplies loose furniture to hotels (Rooms and public areas). But in some projects I use local supplies and craftmanship.. So why not
  17. I agree with @sertac. Buying an old car comes with a maintenance costs. And if you don't pick your car correctly that cost will increase as soon as you hit the sand. However the bright side of it is, you will not think the value of the car when you are driving on desert. You will enjoy as much as possible. Important thing for picking the car (I am saying this with my bad experience), be patient when searching the car. Try to buy one which hasn't been to desert before. I was hasty when I bought my Trailblazer and that came with the cost! Regarding the value, as far as I can see, If you buy a car with 10K range, it will only lose another 1k or 2k in years which is negligible. You can consider the maintenance costs as your loss in this case...Or the cost of having fun in desert. Up to your perspective.
  18. Thank you for your replies @Gaurav and @Frederic I watched those videos the next day of overheating I told the technician to change the clutch. But I will change AC switch later. For the heating thing I will try to get it done as well. But I am almost at the limit of this month's budget for the car. Maybe I can postpone it to June. I am waiting their quote for that However I still have a doubt that there might be an softwere or electronical problem but technician couldn't find one...Let's see. I will try it first on some sand nearby to tarmac before entering to desert Thanks again.
  19. Hello everyone, I had an overheating problem last friday on desert drive. So I took the car to workshop and I want to get your opinions before I give a green light for any work or replacement. There are two things I realized so far; 1- Blowing Noise When I usually give gas or accelerate, I hear a loud blowing noise along with the engine noise coming from the fan. I assume, it is because the fan is working on a high speed. However sometimes it stops doing that. So the fan working on low speed I presume. I recorded a video when it stops giving that blowing noise. The technician says, one of the cable in the sensor was cut (I believe the one ECM uses to read speed of fan) Therefore fan was working in full speed all the time. He says he repaired the cable and it varies now.... Might be true but I'm still not satisfied with the answer. Because sometime even the engine is hotter then usual -say 105 degree-, blowing noise doesn't come... It should work with max speed at that heat shouldn't it? 2- Increasing Temperature on Highway I had a test drive with the technician and OBD connected. After half an hour while I was driving with 105km/h with AC on, heat gauge started to raise up to 110degrees. At that particular time readings on OBD were; - Engine RPM: Somewhere around 2000rpm - Desired fan speed: 840rpm - Actual fan speed: Close to desired fan speed. 840rpm for fan is almost the idle speed for fan when the AC is on. That is strange. Technician says, he needs to change fan clutch and AC pressure switch. I am not very sure changing these 2 things will sort the problem. Can anybody tell me whether this is true or not? BTW; there is no fault code on OBD regarding fan at all. WhatsApp_Video_2020-05-27_at_11_50_34.mp4
  20. It was a workshop in DIP which I worked with them for one of my hotel project. So they did it as a gift. I have an extra piece with M8 bolt welded. If anyone has a flag with M8 nut in the pole, I can give it.
  21. I bought the same 2 piece flag pole from AOR. However I custom made this piece to a metal workshop free of charge. 24mm of widht was wide enough to slide in to roof rail. So I can directly fix the flag pole to this piece... I've tested it for almost 5 drives now. It is working quite well. Sorry I don't have a photo of final product right now but if someone needs it just let me know. Note: Ignore "Welded" note between nut and steel plate. I've decided that, it's not necessary.
  22. Al Qudra, Pink Rock, Fossil Rock... after attending multiple drives in these common areas, I've realized how disrespectfully people are treating to desert. Reckless people leaving their garbage on desert... I remember seeing a garbage collection drive organized by Carnity on Youtube or on a thread. So how about we organize a garbage collection drive again? Since the number of members significant now. We can do a great cleaning. Multiple convoys with 4-5 cars to maximize cleaning area. We can even do this as a repeating event maybe in every month...I don't know if summer is suitable for this though... What do you guys think?
