BMW Tightening Torques
The maximum tightening torques are:
Only applicable to shaft screws with metric standard and fine threads acc. to DIN 13, sheet 13 and nuts with height of 0,8 x d acc. to DIN 934 and only for a m total = 0.125 (screws phosphatized, screws untreated or galvanized. Lubrication condition: unlubricated and also oiled).
For cadmium-plated screws or nuts (m total = 0.08 to 0.09) the tightening torque with screw material at the same level of utilization ca. must be 30% less than
shown in the table.
The values specified in this table apply to all screw connections conforming to the aforementioned conditions.
Not applicable when using a different surface or lubricant condition on the thread, or if the height of the nut differs.
Not applicable to necked-down bolts, self-tapping screw connections or to connections between parts made of different materials.
Important!
Maintaining specified tightening torques is vital for performing repair work to a professional standard. This presupposes that the torque wrenches required for this
are subjected to a regular inspection. Approved torque testing equipment is listed in the catalogue of workshop equipment planning documents.

BMW really needed to rescue their coupe reputation with the Z4, as the previous model, the Z3, was generally regarded as a bit on the limp side and not at all that pretty.
Enter the Z4 in 2003, with a bold new shape, some more serious power and a more ‘aggressive’ driving feel. Notice the facial similarities between the 6-Series coupe and convertible, and this car although smaller all around, came along as a drop-top and a tin-top, like the 6.
This was the start of the new era of BMW design. And some loved it; others were less impressed. But, it is generally agreed that the Z4 is a bit of a ‘grower’ – spend a little time in its company and you could well learn to love what was at the time of its launch considered to be some rather wild style.
2009 BMW Z4There’s that sharky face again, a fairly flat and coupe-length bonnet and short overhangs showing-off that wheel at each corner look to the full. It’s only along the sides of the car that the design lines start to chop and churn like waves on a windy night at sea.
It was these upper and lower, heavily-accentuated creases in the door-area metalwork that confused the public on the car’s initial release, but time has been kind to this coupe with most people warming to the busy styling and sales doing quite well all over the world. And anyway, pushing the styling aside and to the back of your mind is easy when a car handles as well as the Z4 does.
BMW has done their usual trick of mating a tight and fairly lightweight chassis with a state-of-the-art and also lightweight suspension set-up that really lets the car dance through the bends, and this is what many consider to be the most important thing when it comes to sports coupe motoring – a fairly small and nimble, lithe and quick-witted car that will see you smiling wider and wider as you tackle your favourite driving roads one more time, just for the fun of it.
2009 BMW Z4
The tin-top coupe will, of course, be a little stiffer than the convertible car; even BMW with their almost unmatched chassis-making skills cannot entirely eliminate the chassis flex that chopping the roof off a car will cause, but with this convertible BM, they got pretty close. So, you can have your roof-down-fun without sacrificing too much in the twists and turns.
But the best chassis in the world is nothing without a forcefully thrashing engine up in the front, and with the two engine choices offered here in the Middle East, you get just that. The ‘base’ 3-litre, straight-six, petrol engine makes 261bhp and 315Nm of torque, and with the smoothness and high-revving capability generally associated with a ‘long’ six it can be the perfect engine configuration for a coupe.
2009 BMW Z4Nearly as perfect as the bigger-bored and tuned version of the same engine that goes into the top-of-the-range M model – a gutsy 3.2-litre, 338bhp unit from the outgoing M3 – more than enough grunt to get this coupe well on the boil. All of this adds up to a top-draw coupe that is well worth a test drive of your own.

The Middle East waited with baited breath for the arrival of the X6, and now its here it certainly seems to one of the cars of the moment, with sales clearly doing well, judging by the ever-growing numbers to be seen here.
And don’t they look great? Especially in ‘Dubai White’. It’s fair to say that BMW did a bit of mold-breaking when they penned the X6, taking the combination of a car-bodied coupe and somehow mixing it up with a large SUV – a combination that some would rightly have thought would end up looking like a huge dog’s dinner – but remember; this is BMW.
For a region that bought so many X5s, the X6 is the perfect gift, taking the X5’s presence and road-command, but making it a whole lot better on the tarmac, whilst making no bones that this isn’t really and off-roader, although it will take a bit more of a bump and bounce than a normal road car.
2009 BMW X6But, the X6 is all about being big and foreboding like an SUV, and at the same time delivering the sort of driving dynamics that a fairly top-notch sports car would be proud of. A huge design and engineering job, and one that not many other manufacturers aside from BM would’ve dared to take on. Only BMW thought of it first; now watch the other makers follow suit.
The X6 commands some serious space on the road, but even with its significant hulk it is still only a four-seater; again it’s more about making a big and bold styling statement, rather than building a car that is large on the outside, just to be spacious on the inside.
But, those four passengers that are lucky enough to be riding inside the X6 will be very well looked after; this is a luxury crossover SUV, after all. Customarily BMW interiors are quite minimalist, but what they lack in pure opulence, they make up for in attention to detail and top-level fit and finish. This model is all new for 2009, so expect the very latest that BMW has to offer in order to wow the crowds.
2009 BMW X6Along with the latest, most inviting interiors, state-of-the-art chassis and suspension set-ups and a new era in automotive design, BMW have also really gone to town on the X6 power-plants, and interestingly it’s back to the days of turbocharging. And that’s all good for fans of super-smooth torque and effortless grace.
There are two rather top-end X6 models to choose from, and don’t be surprised when there is no lowly 2.5-litre engine on offer – the X6 is exclusive. The XDrive35i is powered by a 3-litre, straight-six, twin-turbo, petrol engine making 306bhp and 400Nm of torque, while the towering, range-topper gets the real deal 4.4-litre, V8, petrol engine, also with two turbos and pumping out a whooping 407bhp and 600Nm of torque – some serious power for this seriously slick new road machine from BMW.
2009 BMW X6And mixed in with an all new all-wheel-drive system and very clever, very accurate new stability control system, you get an entirely new and entirely enticing Sports Utility Coupe from BMW

Launched in 2000, the X5 was BMW’s first SUV.
Unlike the truck based SUVs of the time, the X5 was based on a sedan platform and designed to perform on-road as well as off-road with a focus on road dynamics.
In its second generation the X5 faces tough competition form of Mercedes-Benz’s M-Class, Audi’s Q7 and Porsche’s Cayenne to name a few. BMW is however working towards introducing a face-lifted model for the 2011 year. The new model will feature mild exterior modifications and new powertrain options.
The SUV is powered by a choice of two petrol engines. An inline six-cylinder 3.0-litre 270bhp unit does duty in the base 3.0si while a more powerful 350bhp, 4.8-litre V8 motor propels the 4.8i. Both engines are mated to a six-speed automatic transmission.
To build on the popularity of the X5 in the Middle East, BMW introduced the mighty X5 M in October 2009. The X5 M features a twin-turbocharged V8 engine which produces 547bhp, good for a 0 to100kph sprint in under five seconds. The X5 is known to handle more like the 5 Series sedan than the full size SUV it is. That said, the X5’s relatively stiff suspension and run flat tyres hamper its ability to absorb road aberrations some of which do intrude into the cabin.
The X5 can be ordered with a third row making it a seven-seater but adults are likely to feel cramped in the last row. The interiors especially the dashboard is strikingly similar to the 5 Series with the usual array of controls spread out in an ergonomic fashion.

The X3 is a compact crossover SUV from BMW.
Introduced in 2004, the X3 is built on the 3 Series car’s chassis and is designed to offer sedan-like on-road performance along with the practicality of a compact SUV. The five-seater X3 hasn’t done very well in the Middle East, unlike big brother X5, which is a regional darling.
When launched, the X3 had little competition; the Audi Q5, Volvo XC60 and Mercedes-Benz GLK had not yet arrived on the scene. Things have changed now and knowing this BMW is working at launching the next generation X3 sometime in 2011.
The current X3 range in the Middle East includes the 2.0i, 2.5si and the 3.0si each of which come with a different petrol engine. The top end 3.0si features a 3.0-litre in-line six-cylinder engine rated at 260bhp. A six-speed manual gearbox is standard while a five-speed automatic transmission is optional on the 2.5si and the 3.0si. The 3.0si with xDrive has a favourable power to weight ratio, which translates into brisk acceleration, dynamic handling and high levels of grip.
Though the X3 comes with BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive and hill descent control it was never really built to go off-road. It has also come to be known for its harsh ride especially on broken tarmac, an area that BMW has been improving through successive suspension upgrades.
A sport package is available and includes larger 18-inch alloy wheels (regular are 17-inch), firmer suspension and sport front seats. A leather-clad M steering wheel and leather gear knob are standard. Options include front and rear sunroof, leather upholstery, navigation system, steering-linked xenon headlamps, and front and rear parking sensors.

The X1 is a compact crossover from BMW and is based on the 3 Series car platform.
It is the fourth addition to the carmakers X range after the X6, X5 and X3. Only marginally smaller than the current X3, the X1 was designed to be pegged under the next generation X3, which will be bigger and more upmarket than the current model.
While the X1 was launched in select international markets in 2009, the crossover was launched in the Middle East in February 2010. Although a 4×4/SUV happy market, the Middle East buyer’s have not shown much liking for smaller SUV’s or crossovers as has been the case in much of Europe. Despite, there has been a flood of smaller, car platform based SUV’s and crossover vehicles that have steadily trickled from a number of brands, including the Japanese. Interestingly enough, the Korean brands have been selling reasonble numbers in this segment. When the X3 was launched it didn’t face any competition until the Audi Q5 and Mercedes-Benz GLK came along. Likewise, the X1 too doesn’t have any current adversary in its league. That seems set to change with the launch of the Audi Q3 and Range Rover LRX in 2011. Designed to appeal to a young buyer base, the X1 has an aggressive and purposeful look. The typical kidney grille, dual corona headlights, upright fascia and classic BMW styling characterise the X1. The compact crossover is powered by a choice of two petrol engines; a 141bhp 2.0-litre unit in the xDrive 18i and a 254bhp 3.0-litre inline six-cylinder motor in the xDrive28i. As their names suggest, both versions come with xDrive all-wheel drive as standard. BMW has designed the five-seater X1’s to have dynamic handling, SUV-like practicality, refinement and prestige associated with the brand. Its affordability is also a key attribute which makes it worth a look for buyers who are in the market for a compact crossover but want something more upmarket than a Honda CR-V or Toyota RAV4.

Review
Deceptive in its styling, impressive in its performance, the 2010 BMW M6 takes the sport coupe concept to a whole new level. Based on auto reviews, road test information and new/used car guide data, the M5 is a stellar vehicle that disguises just what it’s capable of. It earns 11 per gallon in the city and 17 per gallon on the highway.
Improvements from the 2009 M6
BMW opted not to change any styling or performance aspects for its 2010 M6. It did change, on most of its models, the iDrive computer interface that received so much complaining in past years. On the whole, it’s identical to its 2009 counterpart.
Performance
If you’re thinking of an M6, performance is a high priority. It features a 5.0 Liter V10 engine that get 500 horsepower. A seven speed sequential manual transmission comes standard, but you also can select a six-speed for the same price. It goes from 0 to 60 in 4.5 seconds (that’s the coupe; the convertible gets to 60 miles per hour in 4.6 seconds).
If you like options, you’ll enjoy the M6’s suspension settings. You can customize and select comfort, normal or sport modes, depending on your preferences.
Many reviewers dislike the seven-speed transmission, saying it didn’t meet expectations. But it’s not likely you’ll notice the difference on public roadways.
Exterior features
You can select either a coupe or convertible for the M5, both of which offer a complete sports car styling that’s obvious from far away.
Interior features
Styled for performance, don’t expect the M5 to provide extra comfort or storage. This is a serious sports car, and it anticipates that it’ll have one or two passengers, and that you’ll care more about RPM than DVD. As a result, expect the M6 to display standard German-engineered interior styling.
Safety and specs
Car safety is a priority for BMW, and just like other BMW models the M6 features ample safety features including dynamic stability control, antilock brakes and brake assist (among many others).
Upgrade options
BMW creates a host of a la carte options for all of its vehicles, and the M6 is no different. If you’re looking for an iPod connection kit, upgraded seats, extra multimedia function or specialized wheels, an upgrade is likely in your future. Be sure to check out photos of the M6 to determine which features you need.
