Morning Newbie Desert Drive - Fayah - Abu Dhabi - 18 Jan 2025

Recommended Posts

Dear Desert Wanderers, @frederic demolder, @Zsolt, @Warbs, @Steffi, @Kirill K, @Mark B, @Shary, @Krinesh,  @Hashem Rihan, @Gary F,

Firstly thank you all for joining todays drive on time, this makes a great start to the drive as it allows us to get away sharp and on time.

The Al Farah desert always throws challenges at us no matter what time of year, it is a great learning desert in my opinion as it has some soft powdery sand, some nice ridges (not that we used them for cross overs or ridge riding today, that will come :) ) but we did practice some up and overs and some sideys, and trust me when I say you all drove amazingly well covering an incredible 37 km's well done to you all.

We did manage to meet up with convoy two at the Desert fox rock formation (not actually sure it has a name, but it does now lol. this was great as we were able to meet old and new friends (pics in the gallery). Then we headed off to teh exit at Sweihan where we encountered a couple of last minute stucks but nothing a bit of shovelling did not fix.

I hope you all had fun, moreover, had a learning experience, not only for your own abilities, but also what you car is and is not capable of.

A big thank you to my second lead @frederic demolder fantastic job following instructions and smoothing my track out, thank you and well done.

And a big thank you to my support team @Mark B in CF and @Gary F sweeping us today, I could not have done it with out you guys so a big thank you from me, you guys make my life easy and it is a comfort knowing you are back there keeping everyone safe and sound. great job guys and appreciated.

I have put a small Relive video below and some stats from todays drive https://www.relive.cc/view/vrqowBjeeKq

Drive Report:

This is my video drive report. It took some time - hope you like it.

A big thanks to @Davie Smooth_Operator for letting me take part of the extended convoy and doing the planning convoy order for the drive. All that I did was to just show up and drive. I would like this opportunity to thanks the support I got from @Vanessa8580. I felt the need for having an extra lead since the issues with my Jeep in Nahle a month ago. I am bit over dramatic on the matter but still prefer to have a safety of another lead to take over in case my Jeep fails me in the middle. @Jessica Lambert you were a fantastic sweep. Could not have asked more in a supporting role than what you did in the drive. Thanks a lot for the tug at the end. @Sherry Jacob, good to have have you in the wrangler as a second lead. You did well. @Yury you missed the briefing - but please make sure that you are on time and don't miss the instructions. Hope the front bumper issue could be resolved soon. Further down the convoy @Steve Farmer you bring the familiar Aussie wit to the drive - I know because my boss is Steve and is an Aussie - who is more fond of cricket than I am. @Abdullah A. you managed the Pajero like a veteran. @Sandeep Padhi - good to see you after a long long time, I guess that was one of my last Newbie drives in Qudra. @ArSaLaN  you had a perfect drive till almost the end, same with @Dipu Francis - you could self recover from perhaps the lone refusal you had. @JAISROCK good to see you back on the Y62 beast - I hope we meet more often.

After a long break of over three years, I finally joined a drive again and it was absolutely amazing! We made the most of what the stunning terrain had to offer. A big thanks to @Looper@Vanessa8580@Jessica Lambert for leading and managing it.

@LooperI think I’m starting to get hang of what you meant during the briefing by “meditating while desert driving.” It’s not just about the adrenaline rush of conquering the dunes, but also about finding that magical harmony where man and machine become one, and float through the sands...

A heartfelt thanks to the rest of the team who joined the desert drive, the energy & enthusiasm made this experience even special, a Carnity experience. Here’s to many more adventures together!
