fj_cruiser
Good Morning All, I'm looking to start daily driving my FJ cruiser but I have 1 problem. The sound system. I understand that there has been an discussion about this over 5 years ago, but I think I want to dig deeper into this topic considering that I often listen to people talking (lectures/podcasts) and not music. Currently, I have the stock JBL system with the subwoofer in the boot and I was wondering if it is possible to actually listen to things with having to use very high volume. Also, I live in Abu Dhabi so if there are shops in Mussafah, It would be of great help. (thank you for everyone who contributed to my insta360 post, but I wasn't able to reply since I haven't bought the subscription yet) Thank you. Frederic
Hi @fj_cruiser It is not very clear to me what you are looking for. You want to listen to lectures and podcasts while driving without having to put it on high volume, correct ? In my opinion, the FJ cruiser having the aerodynamics of a cow, it will always be loud inside the cabin while driving, but there are are few options to reduce it: - Good quality highway tires. Michelin has some of the quietest tires. Heavy all terrain tires will be too noisy. - Cabin insulation. It is possible to insulate the cabin more with sound-deadening panels. This will surely help but is quite a bit of work. Some information can be found in below topics: if all above does not work, i suggest try using airpods or changing the car 1 "Go as far as you can see; once you get there, you'll be able to see further." Imran Asghar
I drive an FJ The JBL is perfectly fine Freddy's point on tyres is bang on. When I changed from bfgs they made a massive difference. It sounds perfectly fine. I then soundproofed the floor on a whim. Didn't do the doors or roof yet and this made a slight difference when stationary. All in all it's fine the fj is not the quitest car but it's not that bad. JeromeFJ
Hi @fj_cruiser, you can make the soundproofing of the doors, it will improve by reducing the outside noises. If you have the original JBL sound system, it is probably the best you can have in an FJ, I would not change it. You can adjust with the equalizer if you have too much bass and want the voice to sound more clear.
