Convoy Off-road Drives - Safety protocol during emergency alert

Everyone is advised to follow these safety protocols in the event of a government emergency or missile alert, before or during the Carnity Off-road Drives. This combines immediate protection with long-term safety by allowing flexible, individual choices based on the time since the alert.

  1. PRE-DRIVE: The 1-Hour Rule
Automatic Cancellation: If an official government alert is issued 1 hour or less before the drive's starting time, the drive is immediately CANCELED.
Action: All participants must not depart for the meeting point and prioritize their safety at home.
The trip lead will also post the drive cancellation on the drive topic, tagging all participants, so make sure your Carnity notifications are enabled.

  2. IMMEDIATE REACTION: The Convoy Halt
If an alert occurs during the drive, the Lead Marshal will announce "STOP, STOP, STOP" three times.
If anyone in the convoy receives an official alert first, inform the trip lead once and keep the radio clear.

Action: All cars must stop in an orderly manner towards the closest flat area, immediately (steer down safely from the ridge or dune top). Do not attempt a U-turn or change position, causing panic. Immediately switch off the engine and partially open the window/s (if you prefer to hear the surroundings) and be on standby inside your car.
  3. FLEXIBLE RELOCATION: The 5-Minute Choice
After five minutes, the initial halt, the convoy will reposition for safety.
Action 1 (Move away from crests): Any vehicles stopped on or near a crest must be moved to a lower level to minimize exposure to a potential blast shockwave.
Action 2 (Individual Choice): Drivers and passengers must now decide their safe posture based on their own assessment and preference:
    1. STAY IN CAR: Remain seated inside your car with the engine off and windows open.

    2. EXIT VEHICLE: Move out and position yourself just below the dune crest or "prone on sand"- never on top. Stay close to your vehicle.

  4. SAFE EXIT/ALL CLEAR: The Final Protocol

After 15 - 20 minutes have passed without an official "All Clear":

    1. No "All Clear": The convoy will begin a Safe Exit. This must be a slow, controlled pace along flat tracks, avoiding all dune tops.

    2. "All Clear" Received: If a government message arrives, the convoy may regroup and continue the drive as normal.

FLEXIBILITY & PARTICIPATION POLICY

  • Always follow the UAE government guidance first.
  • If your area receives alerts before the drive, do not join.

  • Repeated no-show penalties will not apply in such situations.

  • You may withdraw from any drive at any time if you feel unsafe.
