Lukas Wii
Hey guys I wanted to ask if anyone has skid plate installed on new Prado ? I’m interested in what’s the design of it and how close is it to radiator? Pics would be helpful. I installed mine and I think it damaged my radiator instead of protecting it , I want to know what’s the usual tech behind like where is it attached to , how far away from radiator and other things. I assume it’s moving a bit while hitting dunes so there must be some spacing / spacers that don’t compromise clearance. Let me know Prado lovers if you have Any suggestions or similar experiences . Thanks 🙏
JC_E
Here is a video from the guys down under, i find their content insightful and really helpful. They explain some of the report from the weakened crossmember below the radiotor that can cause damage. below is a picture of my skid plate installed, one of the firsts back in Jan 2025, never had any issues. And here is how its holding up a year later! 🫣 2

Frans M
Here is the screenshot from my dash cam. The pocket that caused your bash plate damaged the radiator. I saw the impact from sweep side. 1
Lukas Wii
do you think it has been my mistake or its rather the plate design fault ? i did not feel this as a big bump but not sure how much the plate should normally protect me against such pokets ? Andrew John Melvill
Agree with Luke, that is a kiss rather than a hard bump. The bash plates primary role is to protect the radiator not to damage it.

Any others?

Asif Hussain
@Lukas Wii A bash plate alone will not protect the radiator if the radiator is hanging below the chassis frame. What you really need is a properly designed and strongly built with stiffeners radiator support bracket that bolts directly to the chassis which actually takes the impact.
