2011 Infiniti QX review

The 2011 QX is an all-new full-size SUV from Infiniti that offers space, luxury and power.

Based on the latest model Nissan Patrol, the new QX is longer and wider than its predecessor and comes with a 5.6-litre V8 engine that produces 400bhp. The gears are shifted by a seven-speed automatic transmission driving all four wheels.

Infiniti claims the new engine returns a 12 percent improvement on fuel economy over the previous QX, despite a hike in horsepower from 315bhp.

The four-wheel drive system can be set to Automatic, which deploys torque to the wheels that need it most according to the conditions, or to high or low ratio settings for off-road use.

The new chassis is, Infiniti claims, stiffer than the last model with reduced vibration on the move for enhanced handling and comfort. A Hydraulic Motion Control system is designed to reduce body roll through corners.

The QX comes in two specifications for the Middle East. Both the Excellence and high-end Luxury grades come with either eight or seven seats, depending on whether you choose to have a second row bench or individual captain’s chairs.

Standard features on all models include satellite navigation, leather seats and a 13-speaker Bose sound system, as well as Bluetooth phone connectivity and three-zone climate control, a powered rear tailgate and a sliding moonroof.

Connectivity for iPods is included in all cars, as is a rear-seat entertainment system featuring two seven-inch monitors. On the outside, massive 22-inch wheels are standard.

Technology includes a blind spot warning system, adaptive front lights and the Around View Monitor system, which displays an aerial view of the vehicle and its surroundings while manoeuvring. A lane departure warning system is featured and the Luxury models feature adaptive cruise control.

Front, side and curtain airbags are all standard, as well as LATCH child seat fixing points.

Prices at the time of writing ranged from 209,000AED to 310,000AED.
