confusion over starter and timing belt

when i started my car in the morning i think i was a but rough when starting the car as in 1st self it didnt start and 2nd self it had a whining noise but it didnt start so i towed it to the dealers and w/o diagnose i assumed that the started is gone where as when the mechanic saw the car they said it is the timing belt

i have only done 50,000 on it how can it be the timing belt?

CX-7 and only 50k driven, timing belt shud be under warranty then. Ask for warranty details and let them fix free for you.

If not, get to another mechanic and take second opinion too.
