If you mean engine bay cleaning, feel free to get it by just covering the alternator with plastic bag/cover. However steam cleaning is better than normal wash.

If you mean to get engine cleaning inside, then its only advisable if your car is newer than 3 - 5 years, in older cars is not at all advisable, as the carbon deposited inside the engine made a perfect place for engine to move and removal of that carbon or other deposit might make engine more noisy and produce missing or pinking.
