  1. Following my last month thread to warn people about changing your password in other car forums:

I Just received a legal notice from Vertical Scope (main company) to share with their users of what has happened. See below:

    Notice of Data Breach

You may have heard reports recently about a security issue involving VerticalScope. We would like to make sure you have the facts about what happened, what information was involved, and the steps we are taking to help protect you. VerticalScope owns and operates a number of community websites. You are receiving this email because you are a registered user of the following community website(s) involved in the data breach:
    www.rangerovers.net
    www.3si.org
    www.club3g.com
    www.landroversonly.com

    What Happened?

On June 13, 2016, we became aware that February 2016 data stolen from VerticalScope was being made available online.

    What Information Was Involved?

Community member usernames, email addresses, hashed passwords, community userIDS, community website, and the IP address the username originally registered with.

    What We Are Doing

We have invalidated passwords of all VerticalScope user accounts. We have posted a site security notification on each site updating users on the potential risk to certain accounts, the password reset and steps we are implementing to improve security. We have implemented stronger password rules (passwords now require a minimum of 10+ characters and a mixture of upper- and lower-case letters, numbers and symbols) along with automated account password expiries to encourage more frequent password changes. We will remind our users to use good password practices (not using the same password for multiple online accounts and using unique strong passwords). We are in the process of implementing additional safeguards to detect, alert and mitigate any future brute force attempts, and have notified our third party vendors that interact with our various forum API's of the February breach to allow their own security teams to investigate. We are continuing our investigation and will be collecting information to provide to the appropriate law enforcement authorities.

VerticalScope is taking steps to strengthen account security. We were already using encrypted passwords and salted hashes to store passwords, and our new password controls are intended to further strengthen user security. We are taking steps to investigate and test new encryption and security technologies to further protect our users.

    What You Can Do

To keep your account as safe as possible, we recommend that you regularly change your VerticalScope community password, and that you use a unique password for each of your online accounts. Using the same password for multiple online accounts significantly increases your chances of being compromised. Even though the passwords stolen in February were hashed, we recommend that if you were using (or are currently using) your VerticalScope community password across multiple online accounts, that you change your password for such other online accounts. We encourage you to regularly review your accounts and report any suspicious or unrecognized activity immediately.

    For More Information

If you have any questions, please feel free to contact our Community Management team by email at [email protected] or on the website that you frequent. A support thread has been created on each website, and our support teams are on there to help you through the process and answer any questions you may have. A Notice of Data Breach is also available on community websites involved in the data breach.

I agree with @Technician. However,I don't think we as drivers and car owners are  the real problem. The real problem is the gangs of marketing experts the car makers use to appeal to our vanity.

In really competitive societies it does not take much to persuade a junior manager that he can feel as powerful and important as the CEO- all he has to do is buy a big truck with all the bells and whistles to give him that false sense of power,  and feeling of being superior to his juniors who cannot afford a big flashy truck.

    You meant this, buddy...?

This is how chevy selling big trucks in here and white collar people going to office in this truck daily coz of brainwash from the marketing and media guys. I personally know 3 mid-senior level guys in my office coming in similar size trucks.

  3. Every turbo car drinks bit of engine oil, roughly 1 liter per 1000 kms - 1500 kms. Older the turbo car gets drink more and more engine oil, as it has something to do with ageing turbo (not sure exactly what it is).

Have you got the turbo health check, before buying the car? 100k although is not too much for turbo to get tired, but again it depends on how it has been treated in past with agency service or roadside service!

  4. After reading this I feel like going back in time and undo my used car sale thru dubizzle and hope to get a fair deal. The only problem is that when price get dictated by dubizzle kind of famous site, then no one else is gonna pay me extra as per the fair value.

I have seen here in UAE, that no one calculate the real car resale value as per kms driven and year owned, all goes with the rate floating in the used car market. Too bad.

  5. AC will be switched off on slightest overheating in almost any car. So as a first point of concern as summer months are coming and we started hitting 37-38 degrees already, this seems a usual behavior to kick in if Engine cooling is not optimum.

Get the radiator coolant check, if its too old and rusty replace to new one. Dont use water as it increase the rusting chances, use proper green or better red coolant.

Ask mechanic to check the viscose clutch fan is working or not, as when car slightly overheat this main radiator big fan (viscose fan) supposed to run faster to bring the car temperature down. I assume here when car hit above 120, load on engine is more and that in turn produce more heat due to weak engine cooling system and to reduce engine load car computer shuts off the AC rather than car getting overheat.

  6. This seems like a good idea buddy, not only Jeep but many other car owner discuss their car woes in wrong places and get stupid results. I agree on your pointer to strike some good deals here at Carnity for getting the members come back again.

Jeep forum in the UAE has some presence in Facebook pages as per my last knowledge but again that get killed after few days of post and then back to the off-road talks.

  7. This definitely sounds like an awesome breakthrough from the marketing point they have captured to turn eco car to race car in seconds. However why not Germans have adopted this yet raises more suspicious of the downside on life of engine or running cost. As Germans and all other Europeans car manufacturer have better experience of dealing in advance mechanics and they should be the first to bring these new awesome technologies to the surface.

If it is, what it is w/o any caveats then hats off Chinese guys to really think out of the box and this will actually revolutionize the whole car industry than the autonomous crap as people still love driving cars. I do.

  8. What is Gymkhana (answer to one of my colleague (girl)):

    https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Gymkhana_(motorsport)

    • Gymkhana is a type of motorsport. Similar to autocross, the goal of gymkhana is to achieve the fastest time possible; memorizing the course is a significant part of achieving a fast time. The name is loaned from the equestrian discipline of gymkhana.

Gymkhana events are time and/or speed events in an automobile. These can feature obstacles such as cones, tires, and barrels. The driver must maneuver through a predetermined "track" performing many different driving techniques. What separates gymkhana from traditional autocross events is that the gymkhana requires drivers to perform reversals, 180 degree spins, 360 degree spins, parking boxes, figure 8s, and other advanced skills. Drifting is also encouraged where helpful or necessary. Essentially, a gymkhana is any event featuring a starting point, a finish line and some sort of "obstacle" to get through, around, or by, all within a certain time limit.

  9. Just read today morning that all cars in UAE will have below efficiency rating mandatory from 2017. This new move seems very good for educating consumer before buying the vehicle, however I am not understanding the need of creating 5 levels of rating within just 1 L/100 km (1.71 km/liter) difference.

All cars that I have ever own falls much below the "Very Poor" rating.

    http://gulfnews.com/news/uae/transport/cars-in-uae-to-have-fuel-efficiency-rating-next-year-1.1678219

    1. 14.2 km/liter (7.04 L/100 km) = Very Good
    2. 13.6 km/liter (7.35 L/100 km) = Good
    3. 13 km/liter (7.69 L/100 km) = Average
    4. 12.5 km/liter (8 L/100 km) = Poor
    5. 12.49 km/liter (8.006 L/100 km) = Very Poor
