  1. Another incident happen with me, when I swapped the engine the mechanic left the main engine wiring harness hanging close to the engine manifold and in extreme left cornering or side slope that wire got touched to manifold and burnt and cause battery fuse to blow due to short circuit.

Check nothing is passing too close to manifold area or touching it.

  2. Today morning, while going to office I have seen the real life first LR discovery (new shape) and my first reaction was OMG, it looks like girlish evoque little brother. This is not what I ordered! Please take it back

After a while I realize that same disco parked under my office building and I happen to circle all around closely and hated it even more. Land rover has actually killed the real discovery legendary name with this cartoonish plastic formed, overly designed kiddish or girlish discovery sport. Hated it man. Any more haters here.....True LR fans.....?

  3. Thanks @haitham samaan and @Mahadi alamin for sharing your group and activities. I have updated your facebook URL in above list, appreciate if you share the website url as many people might not prefer facebook group activity due to trust issue.

Don't get me wrong but off-road is a serious sport and one will definitely browse around the site and members faces, few drive post's and drive report before joining if he is fresh to the club and not thru existing members referral. Dedicated site usually builds the confidence and credibility.

@harryd I understand your concern but I personally feel it's tough to tag clubs based on nationality and one should always try with a pinch of salt for small drives and then see if they actually fit in or not. I like what futureshock999 explained very well in Danish comment.

  4. Just to add a few:

    8) TheOryx4x4 - a splinter club from AbuDhabi4x4 created when a few marshals left to do something smaller and more personable, and with fewer rules.  Some great drivers and great people, with more of a social life than AD4x4.   (I'm not knocking AD4x4, I think they are a great, great club and perhaps the best club for newbies to get an intro to the sport).  Very good club for those with limited Arabic.

    9) Fury4x4 - a bunch of insane, adventure seeking drivers who go all out.   A great club if you have the skills to hang with them and don't mind risking your vehicle on occasion.   The few that I have met are great guys too.

I should also point out that a great many drivers belong to more than one club.   Gives more choices of drives and trips on a given weekend, and expands your social circle.

Thanks for adding new names to the list, which is really helpful. Can you please give me their site site url, as I couldn't find them in google.

  5. Hi Waqar, Range Rover especially those new shape that launched in 2003 and 2004 are very notorious for all possible electrical issues.

I want you to explain me a bit more in detail as what exactly happening and for how long it happen? And do you hear or feel any other symptom while RPM goes high? Like loss of power, or some clicking of relays, or engine fan gushing more prominently? How much high RPM hits in idle and at driving?

  6. Hi Robert, all 4 what you name is not an offroad cars they are just SUV (sports utility vehicle) almost like a car with slightly higher roof to fit the big accessories or equipment. They all will sneeze to death with one gram of sand or wadi rocks. I have seen these cars dying on road side sand plenty of times.

You can choose FJ Cruiser, X-terra, Wrangler unlimited, Pajero sport etc.

  7. Haven't you ask them what they will do in 3K, I mean breakdown of items and see if it really make sense or it's just a milking cow usual behavior.

For reducing HC, for sure get the air filter changed and also see some good mechanic to diagnose the Vacuum leak or additional air going from some seals. Idle speed control sensor should not be changed unless car showing some error code for that specific item.

For less driven car, I would have suggested that to put the fuel treatment bottle (STP or cyclo) from eppco emarat for 50 bucks in quarter tank and drive at 140 to get rid of all carbon deposit before you hit Tasjeel.

  8. Very interesting and debatable topic. I can write tons and tons on this topic as I have been there done that and seen many friends suffering.

In short if you live in UAE, going with GCC specs is far better and headache free way to own any car for below reasons:

    1. First off course warranty
    2. Made for harsh climate
    3. Dealers will happily work on it
    4. Roadside mechanic can also work on it
    5. Better resale value
    6. Better reliability

I had Jeep grand cherokee US spec long back and every time in summer while driving hard it used to overheat and I spend so much to change basic stuff as much as I can afford and after 5-6k spending on 18k car I call it off.

People who make this Texas story is actually the guys who have been suffering in Dubai heat with inoperable car and now want to sell it for less to get rid of. I have not seen one guy yet in last 7 years in UAE who have been driving 100% stock American car in 50+ degrees heat.

I said this is interesting topic, as to see in this car forum if anyone have ever live up to that claims in Dubai. Please step forward guys.....!

  9. Just came across some bizarre stats of Dubai's most dangerous road in terms of traffic violations from Emirates 247.

To my surprise SZR (1.6 M) exceeds the sum total of other 3 main arterial roads of Dubai (1.2 M).  :x

And even more surprising is that, that majority of the people are frequent offender and each person car has 24 violation in two years time, means 12 violation a year = 1 violation every month. How much money people have here to waste on fines than learning how to drive or behave........!

    428,680 + 422,400 + 364,700 = 1215780

    1. Sheikh Zayed Road = 1.64 million violations

    __________________________________________

    1. Al Khail Road = 428,680 violations
    2. Sheikh Mohammad bin Zayed Road = 422,400 violations
    3. Emirates Road = 364,700 violations.

  10. Front grill extended in two part looks good, but interior build quality from the pics looks only acceptable (not wow), notice the crumple on leather seats tell me that Cadillac still shying away from high build quality. May be im wrong, but I am commenting seeing one of my friend 2014 model CTS that looks and run awesome but doesn't feel that good in hand as compare to german or british competitors for caddy.

I hope it's worth the tall claim of 640hp ride.....!

  11. I was reading in yesterday's Gulf news that ministry of economy or some govt body (can't rem correctly) is coming up with new law for standardizing all car dealers to follow 10,000 kms car service in UAE. Again read some bashing and polls in today newspaper where experts aren't supporting this new move.

    http://gulfnews.com/news/uae/transport/how-often-do-you-service-your-car-1.1583842
    http://gulfnews.com/your-say/readers-service-cars-every-5-000km-1.1583808

Any idea what is the actual reason behind this thinking and why would anybody want to impose the law on car servicing that should be recommended by car manufacturer and not anyone else. Is there any major issue happen in past, that triggered this thought process or something else I missed.....?

  12. From the proven reliability of Pajero and capability to handle any unexpected rough terrain with reasonable offroad capabilities I will bet on Pajeo than on Mercedes. May be as I am offroad loving guy, so take my advice with pinch of salt.

This issue will be more clear if you share more info like will you driving alone or with couple of other cars...? Going for vacation that involves roaming in Oman or some business trip?
