Kms unless it has verified history are easily reversible on these things takes a trip down to shj and 50dhs to reset it to anything you like. But still try to get the lowest possible but dont let that be the only factor or deal breaker. If the car is well looked after and maintained a high miler is preferable to an abused low miler. Although if looked after Ive seen them go up to 600k kms! And still drive well.. Years would be between 2003-2007 4dr V6.

Stay away from the inline 4 cyl model. Its a gutless POS. And get it from a private owner, who looks like he could have afforded it and afforded to maintain it with no fishy background stories. And the second hand car market sucks right now and is a buyers market, so don't be afraid to bargain hard or walkaway from a crappy deal. Dealers can afford to keep inventory sitting on their lot and don't negotiate much with usually cheap patch up repairs to flip over quickly. Well then its not in the running in this thread here is it. Really ? Never seen that happen and nor do I stay away from them. This honour usually belongs to blacked out lowered Patrols and Cruisers riding on 900 sand tyres with loud exhausts. But after 40 plus years in this country, never seen that happen with a Pajero. Because usually old tame uncles are found behind the wheel of one

Strange. I know many, ok a few who have taken their SUVs for long African overland trips without issues they would have faced if they had taken any car. And how does one expect to do a overland trip in a sedan anyways? Btw the post says road trip not overland, but by seeing how bad road conditions in many African countries is a sedan even for a road trip doesn't sound too suitable. I've nothing but SUVs or Trucks do over landing trips in Africa, or anywhere else for that matter Only issue I can even think of is it being a petrol instead of Diesel. Love to hear why SUVs arn't a good choice for an overlanding vehicle for Africa

And by your own words its not, a single woman on her own should get a dog and some tazers and teargas just so she can get a Pajero! 😂 😂

I second the recommendation for a Land Cruiser 100 series. Having spent over a decade in the Desert Safari field these were are daily mules and been all over the deserts and mountains of this country in them. And checks all your boxes. Power wise there really isn't much difference between a V8 VXR and the straight 6 GXR. And you can hardly feel the 40HP difference. But the VXR or and the Lexus variant the LX have a lot of bells and whistles and some top spec VXRs and all LX470s have adjustable ride height a great addition for off roading. Saves you the trouble of modding and spending extra on lift kits and shit. But be careful a lot of ex safari fleet and abused shabab Cruisers are in the market. Also the V8s are a little bit of a pain to work on and maintain but reliable as fcuk not to say the 4.5 straight 6 is unreliable. The V8s Need timing belt replacement every 100k kms which is a PITA to do. And most ancillaries are deep inside.

Did some googling and found out these are mostly used in the Hatta region of Dubai and not so uncommon. It's been donkey years since I went there and don't plan on going anytime soon either. So it could very well be the case there. This road does look like the road right on the border of Dubai Shj with the Dubai side fenced off with barbed wire on top with the big old tyres dumpsite.behind the car impound

desertdude replied to Barry's topic in General Discussions
About 5000dhs -
Look up the YouTube channel Dong it has regular series of websites to kill time. For me my entertainment is YouTube. I rarely visit websites anymore. Just a couple of forums on politics, the local papers and everything else is YouTube. Some great channels on Science, Cooking, Cars, builds, stand up etc etc.

Alpine A110 in European car of the year final
desertdude replied to Barry's topic in General Discussions
Not to mention what kind of a toxic waste land is created when mining for the raw materials to be used in the batteries for these electric vehicle. And avg joe is not going to give up something that is cheap and convenient (regular IC cars ) for something expensive and impractical ( electric cars ) -

Yeah performance of the Volt, Bolt and Leaf nothing to write home about. That's why production ended. Tesla is too expensive and impractical with no real network outside the US so electric cars are not taking over anytime soon -
Stiff steering wheel -RR P38 - 1999(Solved)
desertdude replied to Jeh's topic in Range Rover Forum in UAE
Like I said the power steering in the P38 is all old skool mechanical with no electronics. What you read is most probably for the next generation L322 Range Rover. Which is mechanical as well as electronically controlled. When I got my L322 its steering was very stiff. I replaced the servotronic valve ( BMW owners will know what I am talking about here as the system is straight out of a BMW ) it still didn't make any difference. Then I replaced the Body Control Module under the passenger seat from the free donor L322 I had and viola steering as light as a feather literally can turn it with your pinky when parked.- 12 replies

I totally understand bread and butter white good fleet and just A to B transport vehicles. But if you are making a sports cars which your average joe is not going to buy. Give it some proper guts atleast, instead of just trying to fake it with strapping on turbos Like Carol Shelby famously said, there is no replacement for displacement. -

Stiff steering wheel -RR P38 - 1999(Solved)
desertdude replied to Jeh's topic in Range Rover Forum in UAE
Nothing in regards to the steering is electronically controlled so the fuses thing is just a placebo or coincidence. You most probably overtime just got used to the stiffer steering.- 12 replies

Alpine A110 in European car of the year final
desertdude replied to Barry's topic in General Discussions
Yeah then how do you explain the big 400hp plus Audis, BMWs, Porsches,VWs, Range Rovers, Jaguars,Mercedes and so on and so forth. I'm fact Europeans are the only one currently making V12s . It's just a bunch of wanky manufactures like Renault, Ford Europe etc etc that cant seem to make a proper car with a proper motor. P.S : My current ride is a 1.5 liter Yaris so don't tell me I'm anti small car. But its a rental -
Alpine A110 in European car of the year final
desertdude replied to Barry's topic in General Discussions
I don't see any retro styling here, looks like the Toyota 86 to me. Looks nothing like it's predecessor which was a cool looking car. And why are Europeans so scared of putting decent motors in anything other than their really high end stuff. FFS another cola bottle 1.8.motor with a turbo strapped on Even japs put a 3liter V6 in their top spec Camrys, which is actually pretty fast for a full sized 4 door saloon. They need to get over their obsession of artificially inflated tiny engines, just so they can lure the European middle class of great fuel economy, MPG figures that are useless unless driven like a granny all the time and you don't go over 2000rpm -
That's exactly it, for what it is or use to be. A mini proper 4x4 ladder frame chassis with a transfer case and decently capable off roader on a budget. Or as the English say. Cheap and cheerful. It's no longer cheap and not worth that kind of money anymore. The sticker shock is too much handle. Having said that I would still like to own a Zuk Samurai im good shape someday
