  1. My advice is if you do opt for a steel bumper don't bother with local made bumpers, they are heavy as hell and there is no point in hauling so much weight around, and you will find your front suspension bottoming out quite a lot more, specially if you go offloading. ARB is still quite heavy, but in my experience the best as in light weight bumpers are from TJM but after a couple of years of driving with a TJM bumper I decided I didnt even need that and went back to my stock bumper of my Land Cruiser. And it is possible to modify one to fit your car. I did just that on my discovery. Modified one for a land cruiser to fit my disco.
  2. 3rd party best insurance is which ever is cheapest, last time I fully insured a car was I think im 2005 so I wouldn't know about full insurance
  3. steel bumpers are a strict no no with the RTA but recently Ive heard they are allowing if fitter with rubber bump stops. But don't take me word for it
  4. All this EV talk at the moment is pie in the sky and people being forced to eat a half baked cake just because supposedly its the "right thing" to do and something for the hippies to feel good about themselves and scoff at regular car users.
  5. He was the only good thing on new Top Gear. Top Gear America sucks ass so, fifthgear was meh. So only GT left
  6. Once again passing on info, in one of my past lives I also owned and ran a garage and till today am an above average avid DIY'er who is never afraid to get his hands dirty, so I also know a thing or two about vehicles
  7. Well on paper CVTs also looked brilliant, small light weight and infinite number of gear ratios to suit all situations but reality as we know is completely different. Sometimes its just better not to try to reinvent the wheel.
  8. I know right! Absolute stupidity, how to expect a drive a vehicle and last, worse case Ive seen are almost all Nissan Altimas with tranny issues around the 100-150k mark. Seems like this new AC compressor design is also one of those shitty ideas.
  9. Like I said nothing will change my stance on the above situation, Alhamdulillah nothing happened but god forbid if that shredded belt broke and wrapped it self around the main pulley jamming the motor while hitting some side slope, could have ended badly or even getting wrapped around the main fan breaking it and damaging the rad. So we must agree to disagree on this matter. It just takes a few seconds to end up with a lifetime of regret. So my only humble request is next time pay caution to the wind and retreat instead of taking unnecessary risks for the sake of fun. You can always come back the next day or week to get your fix of the sand. End Of.......
  10. Interesting, didnt know that. Dunno why or maybe because of it being cheap these so called reliable japanese manufacturers have started to shoot themselves in the foot which bringing im shitty tech like this. Prime example being the CVT trannys on the Nissans.
  11. My motto has always better safe than sorry and safety first and thought thats the motto too over here, anyways. I think you forget or probably don't know I've also spent a good time of life in this field, have recovered car with broken diffs, burnt clutches, broken rads and dead fuel pumps, repaired and replaced parts in situ from deep inside he dunes of Liwa, not bragging just informing. Just because one can, doesn't mean one should, although I'm all for jugard/ghetto fixes but if one can avoid such situations one should and unfortunately no amount of justifications will make me change my mind, take that for what it is P.S : Or maybe I was just trained this way. We were taught first of all safety and second your vehicle, don't do anything that will risk the safety of your passengers or have any negative effects on your vehicle, maybe because our cars were our sole bread earners, we would rather forsake a days pay than to risk damaging the car and have it end up the shop for even a minute longer than need be. Because we only got paid if we worked, car out of action meant no payday plus cost of repairs from pocket so two fold damage to the wallet !
  12. Just because the battery light is om doesnt always means the alternator is completely dead. And the cars I was talking about were, One was a 2000 LC Pickup totally plain jane and the other a 1991 Toyota Carina.
  13. Twice Ive had alternator belt issues and the battery maximum on highway slow cruzing with all other electrical load, like headlights, AC, radio shutoff. Didn't last more than a hour. Please tell me what batteries you use than can power a car for 6 hrs just on their own juice! And even so an unnecessary risk IMO.
  14. And also how cutting a record was not cheap and needed record label deals for them to pay for studio time which charge by the hour. And this is simplifying stuff. The amount of expensive hardware needed was just mind blowing. Also with the advent of powerful computers and DAWs recording and producing a profesional grade radio ready song is available to everyone on the cheap.
  15. Unfortunately I know only of Jebel Ali Shooting Club and Sharjah now left and as you know very pricey. We used to go to UAQ shooting club but it closed down, guns were free and ammo was like 100 for a box or something, not sure now but pretty cheap. Shot everything from a 9mm to a Magnum 45. Great fun too!
  16. Been reading about this for a while, first time I saw pics of Rami as Freddie my jaw dropped! A perfect fit. Although does remind one how shitty and difficult it was to record, mix and master songs when the process was fully analogue and on tape!
  17. Knowing Toyotas its probably the evaporator, either its leaking or blocked with dirt, since they are hard to get to no one bothers with them, even in the OP there is no mention of the evaporator being checked, cleaned or replaced. Our Safari Land Cruiser would occasionally suffer from evap blockage due to daily extended use in the desert, and Al Futtaims official procedure was to cut the dashboard to get to it, which meant you glove box never closed properly again and would pop open at the slightest bump. And when questioned they would say there is no other way to get to it 😕 Fortunately found an indie who knew how to wiggle it out without cutting the dashboard or totally removing it.
  18. Yoi did all this with an almost tattered dyno belt, not very wise I must say of everyone involved. If the remaining belt completely let go you would be stuck in the dunes with a totally dead car in about 15 minutes after the battery drained, and then it would turn into another tow a dead car out or go to town get a replacement on a friday and change belt on site recovery operation.
  19. I have it on good authority from someine was master tech in HVAC working on car acs to massive chiller units for skyscrapers and to never put UV dye in you vehicle HVAC system, it might make the leak easier to trace but can effect a lot of other components as well as affect your cooling efficiency and very hard to flush out. Basically never put anything other than what your cooling system was designed for. Although this could be usually over cautious advise usually given by all by the book mechanics and techs and dony believe in ghetto fixes and hacks
  20. A small beeper being a deal breaker, who would have thunk it!!!!
  21. From what I recall BMW made a pickup out of a M3 in the 80s to help transport bits and bobs around the factory
  22. I dunno I'm suspecting a gas leak, because after every time something is replaced obviously system is recharged and works for a few days until gas levels drops down causing intermittent cooling and finally nothing.
  23. EVs have been around since the 1800s, yes that is correct and the fact they have not made any significant progress in almost 200 years is a clear sign we are barking up the wrong tree.
  24. LOL reminds me of the good old days, when Al Nasr cinema was one of the few cinemas showing new English films and ticket was only 9dhs. Right on the entrance was Al Nasr Cinema Cafeteria. We used to buy a big bag of chips, as chips were sold inside the cinema and then buy sandwiches and burgers, empty out the chips and stuff our loot into the big chips bag and walk right in, and if anyone asked we would tell them we just bought them from inside
