  1. MANY thanks Junaid ( @desertdude ) for explaining it nicely over the phone to help me try this correctly through the black thin vacuum hose that goes into the manifold. It really helped in stabilizing the rattle (by 50%) and one of the weird squeaking noise, but not cured it completely. In first few attempts I felt it's waste, but when you said I can do this whole day long then I tried two more times after long drive intervals and felt some real difference. One major change noted immediately after this is now engine idle adjuster is completely free, earlier it used to be at 8-10 rounds in to hold at 750 RPM, but now it's doing it by itself. This definitely tells me that this water experiment has done "something positive" I know we are dealing with very old engine but I am happy to progress with one step at a time to identify what works or not. Next I will try to add Rislone Engine Treatment tomorrow and hope to see some more magic.
  2. I can only remember it was due to lower clearance he was being careful in hill decent, but haven't seen him struggling otherwise so I assume it's good in desert.
  3. Last Friday at end of our drive I and @Rahimdad run a small test at 11 AM for checking the actual temperature as it was feeling quiet hotter than 32 degrees as reported by accuweather.
  4. Thanks @Rahimdad for posting this fantastic early morning drive and special thanks to @manums for taking these beautiful pics and for riding with me. Hope I have not bored you much from off-road "theory" session. SUPER THANKS to everyone at Emarat4x4 for this nice drive. It was awesome to meet old friends and lovely company, that I missed a lot in last 2 year gap. Thanks Qaisar saab, Sikandar, Moosa, Adnan, Suhail, Farid, Khalid, Amir, Zafar and all the lovely people. Drive started at 6:15 (sharp) - good job guys, and we were around 30 cars and decided to split into 3 convoys - 2 newbies and 1 fewbies. Due to some seismic work from Sharjah oil company in maliha area, we all drove almost newbie level till 9 AM. After that few split for fast-action drive to steal the whole breakfast, lol (yes it's for you rahim bhai). All in all it was good newbie trip and I'm sure lot of newbie has gone back home with lot of learning lesson today. Encountered few hickups, refusal and other minor issues but all the crew and marshals managed it very well. In the end, all groups meet again for lovely breakfast from rahimdad. Let the pictures tell the rest...!
  5. Thanks Junaid, I have heard this water technique too online too but I'm not sure if I can do this right by myself. If you are free these days to help, I can pass by. Anytime over the weekend is perfect for me to beat the traffic.
  6. So Mercedes think it will catch fire and driver should have fire extinguisher within hand's reach - to stick on top of glove box *****DAMN DESIGNER***** This somehow seems to share the (3D Only) fortune like Merc 6x6.
  7. Finally, someone has thought of doing the right thing at least. Is it expensive?
  8. While searching the cause and fix of partially close engine valve (that causes mild misfire), I have found out that carbon deposit in GDI engines sprays the fuel in center of cylinder than through intake valves. This leaves the valve never touch the fuel and hence fuel systme cleaner is ineffective in such scenario. Due to this peculiar design, GDI engines need to be decarbonize every 50-60K kms. Does anyone know any best engine decarbonization product available in Dubai? I can see online CRC - Intake valve cleaner and Seafoam, but both of them are not available in UAE. I am not inclined in opening the engine head for cleaning, as I have had a bad experience with 2 previously rebuilt engines in my life. They always run rough and overheat with slightest push.
  9. @amitaj, @Barry, @treks it's all about experience sharing here and no one forced anyone to do what Junaid has done. Victore has asked for some advise and everyone helped with their piece of knowledge in whatever they can. I really appreciate if everyone uses this advice as a healthy and professional discussion than direct attacks. We all know how much car manufacturers, dealers and oil producer share the stuff honestly from VW cheating the world, ZF lifetime gear fill instance, fuel mileage false claims, HP tall claims and so on. So if someone has done something with their own due diligence then we need to be more curious and try (if you can) without pulling him down. With my beloved Pajero, until date I have been failed million times in Dubai with best of the mechanics including the dealership here and with big car businesses claiming 30 years experience under their belt, but I still try whatever I can within my reach to keep her alive.
  10. @amitaj everything shared on public forums should be taken with pinch of salt whether you believe or not as there is no 100% authenticity of any information unless it follows your chain of trust. Rahim bhai this experience is of junaid right? who is very old member here @desertdude. Knowing him personally for so many years and he was my first off-road buddy and hard core LR and offroad fan, I can vouch for his words and experience man.
  11. I'm not sure but I think albert left robbies few years back as one of our common friend work with me.
  12. If you are not too busy in afternoon or evening, lets have a small spin? Morning and that too 6 am on Friday is punishing man. 3-4 PM weather is not bad now for quiet and relaxed drive. what say?
  13. Thanks Rahim bhai, I'll call you and get the contact.
  14. I'm planning to get my beloved Pajero fresh lick of paint and looking for your experience and feedback on which is the best car repaint workshop in UAE? Looking for full body same color car repaint with the good number of years in warranty against fading / flaking. I am not looking for insurance level of job that cracks up the paint in 6 months time. Any good or bad feedback is helpful to steer clear from incompetent workshops. Thanks.
  15. @Derick don't worry on pricing if you have something in mind for him. Trust me barry and his workshop is not a rip off like most of the garages. I have used his expertise in all three of my cars and I paid him from 20 AED - 200 AED labor for different jobs, as they do offer Carnity members special pricing I never recommend anything to any one unless I'm happy, and so far all my 5 recommended friends came back happy.
  16. I agree with you barry, but most cars are either front or back wheel drive and this truck can/should lift the free wheels up in the bracket. Secondly it is just used to get it out from basement or re-position car from some sticky spot not to drive all the way to workshop. I have seen similar truck used by RTA or Dubai police to move abandoned cars.
  17. Well in all fairness, either they provide those front wheel lifting low height tow truck or agree to provide on site repair for quick fixes like flat battery and lost key etc. Straight away denying like this to not to visit in basement parking is not very nice. Do they have disclaimer saying such ridiculous term...?
  18. I know that now and you are right in discouraging him. I was in little rush while typing earlier message and didn't realize the restriction of 95K and new car.
  19. Totally agree, food for thought for deep pockets here who wish to open new business in UAE. You have ready customers to pay for your service and will never leave you if you are honest and less snobbish. BTW, anyone ask why AAA can't go in the basement where almost every building here in Dubai have at least 2-3 level down basement parking. Sounds really dumb logic - charge extra (big deal), but do what you supposed to do at least.
  20. This reminds me of half cut P38 Range Rover that one of the big guy modded here in 90's for hunting here in UAE. Seen that couple of times in shabby condition on road few times lately. So that guy must be real inspiration for LR topless ideas
  21. I think more importantly you need to decide whether SUV or sedan as a next step to really be fair with your comparison and search resukts. And then decide one below each category to get proper results and dont get fooled by comparing wrong league. Majority of time people do wrong league comparison or persuade by others to trick them (esp sales advisers). Sedan Average sedan Fast sports sedan (performance type) Extra beautiful and head turner (luxuy sedan) SUV Comapct SUV (startup range) 4x4 capable SUV Luxury SUV
  22. Not sure if its true, I heard somewhere (radio or facebook) saying that this all money goes to charity, so it's not all bad.
  23. I totally agree with Rahim bhai on this one, as I had Range Rover Autobiography for two years and even changed all oil gaskets (original) by spending close to 3k and six months later seen the spotting again in my parking spot. Like few LR fans says, LR doesn't leak it just mark it's territory.
