  1. Hi there,

What do you mean with a bit of overheating? Where does the temperature needle goes? The normal should be in the middle... What kind of offroading where you doing? Driving in high revs all the time? The AC shuts down when the vehicle overheats? Probably it is a safety feature. Whenever the engine temperatures goes above a certain level, the ECU starts shutting down non essential systems to reduce the load on the engine...

    Cheers! :)

  2. Hi there,

The coolant used for engines is ussualy a mix of water and glycol among other chemicals. The main reason for the chemicals is to increase the boiling point of the water and to reduce the freezing point of the water.

For what I know there are many different mixtures that can lower or raise the above points. For the ME, I believe we use something that more to raise the boiling point than to lower the freezing point. Also, the radiator/expansion tank cap valve has a very important task once it allows for pressure to be relieved at a certain point.

Ideally, one should stick to the manufacturer recommendations unless the engine is tired and the cooling system not working properly...

    Hope to have helped.

  3. Hi there,

Black smoke means too much fuel is going into the engine or that the fuel is not being burned properly.

What Rover do you have? I have the same problem on my Discovery 2 and after on line research found that should be the MAF sensor that is either dirty or damaged.

If your car has O2 sensors, could also be that they need replacement.

You should get it fixed because it is drinking too much fuel and it also not healthy for the engine too run like that.

  4. Hi there,

This will all depend on how much mileage you have on them. Ussualy the front shocks go before the rear ones. That is because they have to handle the weight of the engine and also if you hit a pot hole or climb a sidewalk most probably the front of the vehicle will do it faster than the rear because you realize you did it too fast and you brake.

On my Disco 2 the rear ones are a bit too soft but the front ones are fine. Probably because the previous owner changed the front ones only. My car has done 150.000kms and I think the rear ones will last another 10.000.

BTW, if you go off road, now would be a good time to consider an upgrade or even a lift kit.

    Hope I've helped! :)

  5. Also take in consideration that maybe the spare has not been used for a long time and the rubber maybe too dry and with cracks and this can cause it to burst!!

I drove a friend's car that had been parked for a few months from Dubai to Sharjah and one of the tyres started to loose bits of rubber to a point that when we got to Sharjah the metal ply could already be seen!! He got 4 hankook tyres for 2000AED in one of the tyre shops in BMW road.

  6. Hi wsg3098 and amowat,

Welcome to the forum! I hope you enjoy it!

Concerning the aquisition of a LR, there are a few for sale on Dubizzle and some seem to be some good deals. Have a look and if you need the opinion of the forum I suggest you create a topic for it.

  7. Hello!

Thanks for the reply! Meanwhile, I've changed the spark plugs and the "moods" are gone. Someone already mentioned to me the issue with the fuel filler neck! At the moment I'm out of the country but as soon as I'm back I'll have a look! Did you have to replace yours? If yes, is it expensive? Do you have to lower the fuel tank?

    Thanks a lot!

  8. The carbon build up can happen on the cylinder head and on top of the pistons.

Does Carbon Alter Combustion in Other Ways?

Absolutely, in addition to causing poor combustion, excessive build up can also alter the vehicle’s compression

ratio. The carbon fills up spaces around the piston rings, head gasket, and spark plugs. This decreases the amount of space

that is available in the combustion chamber. This increases the compression, which can cause the engine to overheat, ping

(detonate), and also causes an increase in NOX emissions.

  9. Hi,

If it was done correctly meaning:

    - Positive with positive, negative with negative,

    - Preferably but not essencial, first connect positive and then negative so that in case of spark it goes to the negative side and not the positive that is the one usualy connected to the components

If done like mentioned above there should be no problem. Did you notice anything different after the jump start?

  10. Hi,

I hope this EASY FIX also works for Discovery!! I have the same issue as rangerover!! But mine is even more critical once it doesn't stop until I buckle up!! I've seen the rear of a instrument pannel and there's a small speaker that emits the chimes. You can disconnect this but you will loose all the other chimes/alerts!

DO NOT disconnect the sensor underneath the seat!! This sensor also works for the airbag and in case of collision the airbag will not deploy once the system does not know if there is anyone seating there or not!!!

  11. Hi there,

    So:

    AAA: http://www.aaadubai.com/aaadubai.htm

    A2B: http://www.a2b-garage.com/index.php/con ... ct-us.html

I need a workshop for my Discovery as well as I've asked for advice from a few friends and these 2 were also mentioned as the best. Not the cheapest, but the ones who know what they're doing.

If the indicator on the dashboard is not on and the temperature gauge is normal then you cand drive the car. Avoid heavy traffic.

  12. Hey Joe,

Thanks for your reply. In that case the smell would be of burned fuel, right? I think mine is pure raw fuel... I try that anyway!

Another thing I noticed is that my car has "moods"... sometimes the engine is really lazy and other times is really nervous! I cannot relate it to the fuel issue but if I have a fuel leak than the fuel pressure would be influenced and that would affect the performance, right?

Thanks a lot for your help!

  13. Hi guys,

My Disco 2 has a strong fuel smell coming from the engine compartment.... Whenever I drive with the window opened it get's really nasty inside.

I've looked underneath and cant find any droping... Has this happened to anyone?

I've also looked at the engine but the big inlet manifold is covering the complete fuel system and so I can't even see a hose!!

Do you recommend any reliable/capable workshop to have a look at it?

Thanks in advance to all of you! :)

  14. Hi there,

What is leaking? Maybe it is just the water condesation from the A/C... If the leaking area is more or less in the dashboard area than it probably is just water condesation wich is perfectly normal.

Leave the car parked in the same place for a few hours then get it out from that place. Then try to understand what kind of liquid it is. If you touch it and your fingers get black and greasy than it will probably be oil. If it is a redish coloured liquid than it can be coolant. Mine leaks from the transfer box sealant and also a bit from the crankshaft sealant... It's kind of common on Land/Range Rovers to leak.... :)

  15. Thank you for the welcoming! I'm really looking forward to get some sand on it! When will the next meeting happen? I have some experience of off roading but never in the desert and it will be grate to do it with a bunch of "strange rovers" along!

I hope that it happens soon!

    Regards to all!

  16. Hi guys,

Back in Portugal my wife also drove a Disco II 200TDI that is know being transformed into a expedition vehicle to be used by my father in law.

I will create a specific post to show you guys a bit more about the two LR's.

Many thanks to the creator of the forum and regards to everyone!
